Chapter 15: Incomplete Monster (2)
================================
When the smoke subsided, the laughing girl in her full ecstasy moment stopped and locked her gaze on their direction.
“You’re still alive?!” The full surprised reaction was in her face. “Che. Curse that healer! Kill her first! Don’t save up manna! Use everything you got. Kill them!”
Before the girl’s minions could make their aim at them, an explosion of smoke came from their direction. Its smell was like a combination of pickling brine and soy in vinegar. The stench surprised the ambushers and all of the stepped back with teary eyes.
Tear gas screen!
It covered their tracks and the attackers stopped. Still, it was just for a moment and the pissed girl with a cannon for weapon fired off another round.
The target was the smoke and the presumed location of the healer and their target. The blast that scorched the forest behind Siva burned once again.
A line of blazing forest can be seen from above and the smoke parted with a giant hole made up by the blast. A streak of blue sparks appeared going left within the tiny seconds of the blast and Siva appeared ready to strike the girl down.
“What the f…” The girl’s eyes widened in shock as she looked at the fist that’s five inches away from her.
But she was saved by the two Swordmages, with one of them simultaneously casting the basic ability [Quick Step] skill that boosted his movement in an instant.
The ability was an instantaneous movement skill that can be junctioned to other abilities. In this case, he put the junction to movement speed and so his stride was sped up by ten fold. The sword descended on the wide eyed Siva and his body was engulfed by blue sparks then disappeared again.
The sword slashed on clean air and the second sword stroked down through the empty space.
“Where’d he go?” asked the first guy.
“There!”
The Cannon Girl shouted and fired off her cannon to their general right. The smoke reached their location but the blast pushed the smoke away.
Again, Siva’s body vanished in an instant that the blue sparks came. When he appeared, he was already about to hit the Cannon Girl right off her face.
Like repeating what happened earlier, the Swordmages reacted fast and delivered a killing blow straight to his face. Yet again, Siva’s body vanished leaving a rail of blue electric sparks and he appeared around 40 meters away from them panting and glaring back.
“Fuck that!” Yelled the Swordmage on the right. “He’s got the same ability as you, Garin!”
“That might be true. But he’s still got another ability up his sleeve so be careful until he uses it.”
This line baffled Siva.
Do they know me?
The archer that’s been waiting his chance fired off a volley of multiple arrows dyed in fire while the pure Mage cast a magic ability that scorched the ground where Siva stood.
Siva had to jump away to avoid damage but the cast time was so fast that it still got his left leg.
“Che.” He clicked his tongue and pulled an E-Grenade.
“Watch out!” shouted the Swordmage called Garin, the pure Mage earlier that wore a tunic and had a staff.
With the warning he gave, their group jump off.
E-Grenades had an effective range of 10m and is also a weapon on its own right. It can paralyze whoever was caught on its blasting zone for at least 5 to 10 seconds, depending on how much Stamina the player has.
But as this group had been accustomed to fighting rare monsters with rare elemental affinities, they thought to this move as a magic cast.
«Spark» a Tier-1 Light Element Manipulation.
To their surprise, the cast time did not take 3 seconds but just an instant.
I knew it, thought the Cassiopeia, this guy…
We might get good loot at him!
They don’t know his name or his abilities. This group of twelve is part of Dante’s circle of Treasure Hunters.
They have pride in their skills and abilities. In fact, they are in the same caliber as Volt’s group. Adding that it’s their plan all along to outnumber them 3 to one, they planned this ambush to kill the person who humiliated and stepped on their pride.
No one sullies the name of Cassiopeia’s Boys and just walks away unharmed!
Dante’s circle of Treasure Hunters, the secret society of The Illuminati. This is a gathering of strong players that wants to gain special contracts and privileges with item collectors that Dante has contact with.
Of course, it’s a group that wants money, nothing else.
They’re like another Masked Organization but they are more discreet and pays attention to the honor of their profession as Treasure Hunters. They do not hunt other players for evil purposes nor they also act aggressively against competitors of the same profession.
But, as said, they value honor greatly. They take pride in their status as “Elite” and they also value the fact that they are specially privileged people chosen to be members of the prestigious secret society of Illuminati.
And so, when this pride they got with their hard earned power and status was suddenly sullied by intimidation from this guy, the group «Cassiopeia’s Boys» led by Cassiopeia planned the ambush.
They were humiliated. Their pride trampled.
This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
An unknown wannabe member with low-grade looking armor and gear, bringing a member of his boys down is unforgivable. In exchange for the humiliation, they will hunt him down. Forget ethics for this one moment only because humiliation means their honor. Their honor is their pride and it was sullied. Unforgivable!
Cassiopeia changed cartridges. The large canon with a bore that measure at least a quarter of a meter wide also changed while in mid air. It narrowed down.
Without waiting for the opponent to gain his footing, she pointed the bore towards him and fired.
Light bullets the size of a finger darted through the air and went straight to Siva. From a single shot cannon, it became a Heavy Machine Gun!
“Die fucker!”
Countless sub-light bullets went towards Siva and once again, his body was covered with the same tear-causing smelling smoke. The mage cast another spell, an AOE Fire Manipulation attack magic!
«God of Oblivion» an advanced level Field Magic!
The archer also prepared his strongest attack ability and pulled his arrow so far back and pointed it towards the ground. After that, he started to charge.
With the two Swordmages on either side, they nodded at each other and their weapons became identically red in glow and positioned themselves as if to strike.
Soon after, their bodies began to move.
Not another second passed, they began to release their abilities and spells.
In the cloud of smoke that remained in mid air, all their attacks connected and hit. From the ground, hailing fire arrows rose like water, hugging the smoke, exploding upon contact.
Cassiopeia’s HMG fired bullets numbering almost a hundred per second. Five volleys of bright yellowish bullets went off at 0.05 seconds intervals at each burst.
And as the two Swordmages on the opposite sides also finished their charges, they nodded once again at each other and their bodies began to move in a speed almost impossible for the eye to see.
They slashed down, red colored blast of hot air went towards the smoke, cutting the cloud created by their archer’s exploding arrows. Then they slashed up and the same phenomena happened. Side, down, diagonal, up, down, 16 strikes were made in five seconds!
“DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE…!”
Exploding arrows made many layers of gas, the bullets pierced through and reduced the target to smithereens while the two Swordmages with Garin being the other prevented the target from escaping the scene.
It looked so devastating, a combination attack without a tinge of mercy. An attack designed to greatly damage monsters and Boss-level mobs was used heartlessly in a person.
While all of this was happening, Cassiopeia’s laughing manner crossed the border of modesty and became one akin to someone who was in ecstasy.
The anger she felt from the humiliation was so great, it made her mad.
She was one of the respected members of the circle of the Illuminati and people look up to her because she is someone who controls a group of strong men. A leader of charms, voluptuousness, and wits, no man shall be so ignorant and stupid enough to not be taken by her.
And yet that day… that day when this man first came and walked off the gathering lounge. Not only he made the great and honorable Senor Dante open the doors of their special VIP room for him, he also did not even as much as to be flustered when he saw her beauty.
Not only that. His arrogant features, his indifferent tone when he talked to her. And most especially, that one and SOLE unforgivable fact…
This man even tried to lift an arm against her.
He not only sullied the pride they had as “Elites” of the crowd and “Elites” of Illuminati, he also humiliated her team and most especially her.
Unforgivable!
A nameless man with mediocre equipment and Tier-1 ability, even going so far as committing a mistake of casting the spell against himself, tried to all those rude and unthinkable things… it’s simply unforgivable!
“DIE!” She screamed and emptied the clip!
And when the cartridge was empty, the advanced-level spell that their Mage had been charging was cast.
“God of Oblivion!”
In an AOE of 15m wide beneath the cloud smoke just appeared with a molten lava. After that, not a second passed that the lava exploded upwards.
The Mage’s team mates jumped off to save themselves from the AOE. That’s because even though the spell’s AOE was limited to 15m, it is only strictly referring to the area where the spell was cast.
Actually, the «God of Oblivion» advanced field magic has a effective damage area of 50 meters wide!
The lava exploded with three bursts every second. For five seconds, fifteen loud explosions accompanied by the ground trembling with each bursts rattled the air in the area. The whole place is filled with lava bomb and debris flying off on all directions.
“Ahahahaha…” Cassiopeia’s ecstatic laugh echoed.
Cloud of miasma and sulfur gas moved across all directions. Smoke crawling on their feet, they waited for the fog to subside. The silence embracing the sound of their panting, the cry of victory waited to be sang.
“Ahaha… he’s done!” laughed Garin.
The other Swordmage also laughed out loud along with the Mage and the archer. All of them were cheering on their respective places.
No monster had ever survived their combined attacks.
A formation made up of their strongest damaging skills and spells.
The smoke that can cause tears in the eyes started to get dense. Three seconds had passed since their combined attack formation.
“Mother fucker! That’s what you get from…”
[You are inside the Killing Zone. Your defenses are down by 70%.]
Their eyes widened in shock and they gasped.
Just when Cassiopeia was about to finish the curse, a shadow descended on Garin’s Swordmage partner and a loud booming sound trembled the air. The body of the Swordmage was thrown towards Garin and the two stumbled as the latter caught the man.
Blood was flowing from the man’s broken right arm, arm bone split inside from a crushing blow.
“What that f…” Garin was about to curse but when he lifted his face, the large shadow fell down on the two of them followed by the sound of crushed broken bones.
“Garin!” Cassiopeia shouted with terror.
Garin was up in the air, unharmed, but he was alone. There wasn’t a sign of his partner and his expression is a clear indication of his utter shock and fury.
“Higa!” Garin shouted with pain. He then turned at the archer when from the clouds of smoke, and there he saw the large shadow came for his companion. “Jigen!”
Jigen the archer reacted too late as the shadow began to emit bluish sparks. Jigen tried to jump but the shadow came from his left then vanished in front of him when he turned his head.
“Jigen!”
From the trailing clouds, something large emerged in a ball shape, as if liquid gas being pulled by the wielder, what looked like a heavy ball descended on Jigen.
Garin’s and Cassiopeia’s call did not help the archer as he was crushed by the large weapon that easily took the size of his body. The wielder of the weapon did not follow up an attack at Garin as he just let the weapon rest on the crushed remains of their friend.
The ground was crushed along with a heavy thud. The sound of rock crumbling from being mauled echoed.
But the impression did not betray them.
30 meters away, Garin landed and regrouped with his leader along with the Mage. They were all looking at the seemingly golden outline of a weapon at least about one a half meter long with a large head half meter size.
“A hammer?” the Mage cried.
“No, that’s…” Cassiopeia gasped and stepped back.
To their horror, as the smoke left the place where Jigen was crushed, a bloody visage of a human with torn up clothes and blood shot eyes turned its head at them slowly.
Perhaps it was an illusion or just the angle of the fires that remained from the advanced field magic spell, but Cassiopeia seemed to see the man’s eyes glowing.
“No, this can’t be…”
“What is it?” Garin urged his leader.
“Mjölnir!” Cassiopeia uttered with trembling lips. Her complexion paled as soon as the man’s identity dawned on her mind. “My God, Garin, let’s run. We’ve made a grave mistake.”
“What?! Why? Who is he?”
At this moment, Siva and his bloody complexion was already fully facing the 3 people remaining in there. He swayed once, twice, dragging the hammer as he took a step. His rugged cloak torn to shreds, his black mask in pieces and crumbling away.
The sight of the mask crumbling in ashes to the smoke and fires caused by lava bombs bade a feel that his own blood was also burning. Orange colored particle like a burning embers blown by the wind came around him.
If Siva did not put on all of his equipment, he would’ve died with their attack. If he did not sacrifice himself and threw Agatha up in the air and instructed her to hover to give him healing support, he would actually died.
But that decision, though the only choice he had at the time, also sacrificed his cloak and his clothes. Now, he looked nothing more than a bloody cave man wearing what was once called clothes.
In the shadow of the forest, only the silhouette of his head and fluttering cloak can be seen.
With blood all over his body, his clothes torn up and gave the appearance of a cloak dyed red, he lifted a finger and pointed at them.
“You will die here.”
His voice came hoarse, echoing with the effort he put to say the words. Although it seem to sound tired, it still had a profound effect to the three.
But to the men and a woman, it was a message in clear bold letters.
YOU WILL DIE HERE.
The ominous words were enough to make them despair.
It’s not normal. Cassiopeia noticed this fact as instantly and as soon as she saw those eyes.
RPG: Terroa is just a game so what is this feeling?
Why am I trembling?
The hazy and unclear shape of the Mjölnir looked like a lowered scythe through the vague light and waving smoke. The Reaper is here…. and he has a name.
The Destroyer.
And as soon as this thought became clear in her mind, she could only gasp and call out to her loyal minion out of fear.
“Garin, RUN!”
