80. Spread of Fear (Part 2)

80. Spread of Fear (Part 2)

Barrett Walker has now been hailed as a sniper god. When the barrels of several sniper rifles aimed at him, he felt a sense of danger. He stood still in the center, watching the figures in protective suits and carrying instruments approach him. Barrett Walker remained calm as a beam of light from the instrument shone into his pupils, emitting a soft sound before falling silent. He knew this meant safety. With the sound of safety, the hidden sniper also breathed a sigh of relief and aimed his gun elsewhere.

It was at this moment that Barrett Walker spoke, "What's going on? Is there really a mutated zombie virus?"

These people, dressed in thick protective suits, were surprisingly agile. After staring at Barrett Walker for a long time, someone finally said, "Since you know, why did you still come in?"

Barrett Walker's heart sank, not out of fear, but out of concern that his speculation might become reality. He quickly headed upstairs to check on Ross, but was intercepted by a vigilant soldier in protective gear who said, "You are not infected, so I advise you not to come into contact with the source of infection. Just wait here!"

"I have already been quarantined by you, haven't I?" Barrett Walker pointed to the people walking back and forth, each wearing heavy protective suits. After saying this, he paid no further attention to the soldier and ran towards Ross's office.

At this time, the Federation received a report from Hero City confirming the existence of the mutated virus. They became alert and, through monitoring sixteen satellite cities, did not find a second source of infection. This brought a sigh of relief, indicating that it was not another probing attack by extraterrestrial creatures on the Federation. They quickly issued an A-level monitoring order, swiftly sealing off the twenty-one public high schools and the Academic Avenue, allowing entry but not exit.

Barrett Walker walked through the quiet corridors, looking at the occasional bloodstains with great alarm. The reason he was so eager to see Ross Rockefeller was entirely because he could not be sure whether or not it was because of the little cat he brought with him. He did not believe that a person of Ross's stature could be infected. Knocking on the door and hearing the sound inside, Barrett Walker breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that these soldiers were not causing trouble for the general.

Upon entering, he saw Ross sitting in a chair with her back to him, staring out the window with a vacant and desolate figure. Barrett Walker walked up to her and saw the little cat sleeping quietly in her arms. He breathed a slight sigh of relief, but then the little cat suddenly opened its eyes and looked at Barrett Walker, its eyes full of innocence and confusion. After seeing Barrett Walker, it mewed a few times, then lifted its head to rub against Ross, looking extremely adorable.

Ross then reacted, turning to Barrett Walker. Her usually cold and disdainful sky-blue eyes now seemed somewhat vacant. Her stunning face was devoid of expression, and the porcelain-like skin was marked with pulsing veins, adding a touch of roughness to her wild beauty.

Shocked by her appearance, Barrett Walker asked, "You're here?"

"I'm here. What's going on? Is it because of it?" Barrett Walker suddenly grabbed the little cat, lifting it from Ross's arms, causing the cat to curl up in fear.

"It's not because of it." Ross stood up, and her body instantly felt less restrained. She became even more violent, with bulging veins visibly pulsing under her snow-white skin. Excitedly, she said, "I found Satan, the real devil. Once injected into the body, it makes you feel exhilarating!"

Seeing Ross's mad look, Barrett Walker was alarmed. He let go of the cat and quickly tried to snatch the metal box from her, demanding, "Where did this thing come from? Look at yourself now, you're already possessed. Snap out of it!"

As soon as Ross noticed Barrett Walker trying to take the box from her, her somewhat vacant eyes turned as crazy as her state. She shook her body, and Barrett Walker had no resistance, crashing into the brick wall with a loud noise, attracting the attention of alert soldiers who rushed over, armed and ready.

The leader of the soldiers, upon seeing his instructor, immediately stopped the others and said, "Don't approach. Move back! Go inform the higher-ups to send someone capable of dealing with the general as soon as possible."

Seeing Barrett Walker stand up from the rubble, the soldiers couldn't help but stare. Was he an abilities soldier, or was the school's facilities too outdated? Barrett Walker, with all his old and new injuries, couldn't help but spit out a mouthful of blood, looking at the spotless soldiers. He yelled, "Don't just stand there! She has been infected. If you don't find a way to resolve this, all of you will die!"

At this moment, Barrett Walker looked disheveled, but once he became stubborn, his tenacity made the federal soldiers fearful. He seemed more like a hardened soldier than they did, and with one step, he created a powerful whirlwind, cutting towards Ross's neck with one hand and reaching for the vial in her hand with the other.

Roar! Ross was like a lioness, roaring like a fierce beast from her throat. Her powerful aura was like a bomb, causing the federal giants to retreat in fear. She looked at Barrett Walker, launching an unstoppable attack, striking him in the chest with a series of punches. The thunderous sound, like a drumbeat, could be heard from behind as Barrett Walker's back began to show large bruises. Suddenly, Ross tightened her grip on the vial, then jumped from the high building, causing chaos.

The soldiers didn't pay attention to Barrett Walker, but instead rushed out, sounding the alarm.

"This person will only make things worse! Serves him right for his bad luck!"

"Go find someone; we mustn't let her out. This raging tyrant must not be provoked!"

"This person will only make things worse. Hmph! Daring to act like a hero, serves him right for his bad luck!"

Barrett Walker, in great pain, clutched his chest. Despite his strong body, the impact would have killed an ordinary person. His torn clothes revealed concave imprints on his chest, gradually oozing blood, with white bone spurs emerging. Barrett Walker coughed violently, coughing up blood, and his chest heaved violently. Despite the suffering, he refused to collapse, watching the spotless soldiers. He sat down, leaning against the wall.

Amidst the screams and gunfire on the campus, the feeling of distance and blurriness grew. Suddenly, a clear meow entered his ears, making him alert. He watched as the little cat licked his hand and nudged the spot it had licked. Barrett Walker looked at the red vial the cat had pushed towards him, coughing painfully. Just inhaling caused excruciating pain, and he could barely move. The pain surpassed anything he had experienced before, and he couldn't stop it. Looking at the vial the cat had pushed towards him, Barrett Walker's mind was filled with images of Ross's violent state. He wanted to speak, but the pain was unbearable.

The little cat pushed the red vial Ross had dropped over to Barrett Walker and nuzzled against his arm, looking up at him.

At this moment, Barrett Walker's mind was tangled like a mess. Where did this potion come from? Could it really be related to this cat? Barrett Walker looked into the clear eyes of the kitten in disbelief, shaking her head in confusion, accompanied by memories of a previous life. Barrett Walker was in deep turmoil!

"I can't wait," Barrett Walker thought resolutely. If I can be reborn, it means that the heavens won't let me die. I absolutely cannot wait here. Grabbing the potion, she inserted it into her chest and pushed it forcefully, injecting the entire potion into her heart.

If there were a microscope to observe Barrett Walker's blood, it would reveal that after the red reagent was injected, it quickly spread, differentiating into countless red cells, rapidly engulfing platelets, replacing them, and then rapidly differentiating further, continuing to engulf and differentiate, spreading like cancer cells, but at an incredibly astonishing speed. After the invaded blood cells calmed down, they suddenly swelled rapidly, and countless white blood cells rushed to engulf these foreign invaders. However, as soon as they approached, they were engulfed, and then quickly differentiated into another, even stronger type of red and white blood cells, but there was no longer an immune system.

After the injection, the pain caused Barrett Walker's heart to stop beating directly, and she fell against the wall, instantly showing no signs of life. However, his blood continued to flow eerily without the beating of the heart.

Boom! The distant sound grew louder and louder, and fear spread throughout the campus. Countless students screamed, and today happened to be the day when the senior high school students returned to school. It's easy to imagine the panic that would ensue if this viral outbreak spread throughout the federation. Pairs of federal soldiers quickly sealed off the entire campus avenue. Today's Hero City was filled with fear.
