43. Assassinating a Major General (Part 2)

43. Assassinating a Major General (Part 2)

Barrett Walker was unaware of the seismic impact his shot had on the bystander hunters, but who could blame him for being a theoreticalist! He had honed his theoretical sniper skills for a solid three years, allowing him to control his hostility and avoid alerting David Lefield.

Upon seeing Mare's sudden arm amputation, Hans Hunter's first reaction was one of bewilderment. His entire body felt as if it were on fire, and after stuffing his intestines back into his belly, the bleeding had stopped, but the sensation was still strange.

Mare looked at his severed arm and suddenly exclaimed, "Ah! Awoo~" His howl was like that of a wounded lone wolf, filled with resentment. In the bloody darkness of the world of the undead, they had no way out. Strength was paramount, and now, with his severed arm, Mare would be torn to pieces by all the undead.

"Ah! You whore, I'm going to kill you!" Mare's eyes were bloodshot as he brandished a dagger, his tattooed face making him look like a dangerous beast.

Barrett Walker had not expected his shot to drive the dark undead into a frenzy. Seeing the terrifying sight, Barrett took a deep breath, lightly touching the trigger, ready to pull it at any moment. Gradually, he followed the barrel with his gaze, restraining his emotions. Even if he was just a junior officer, he was still the hunter, and in that moment, Barrett felt a sense of pride. No one in the entire federation had his level of concealment technique, not even a junior officer could easily detect him.

"Die!" Barrett murmured, then pulled the trigger.

The undead, who had been screaming, had their chest instantly blown open, blood splattering everywhere, their body split in two.

"There he is!" Countless people saw Mare instantly blown in half, and only then did they hear the sound. The loud noise rang out once again, and numerous focused hunters pinpointed the general location, pointing towards a hilltop.

Hans Hunter deeply looked at Mare, and regarding the covert sniper, he too felt a chill. He was certain that, of all the snipers he knew within the federation, none could assassinate a general. What did this represent? If this person's rank and abilities did not reach that of a general, yet with his skills, he could assassinate any general within the federation, it represented a disaster for the federation, especially for martial arts, particularly the Chinese martial arts, which could not monopolize the mainstream of the federation. He dared not imagine what kind of disaster this would be for the federation.

Quickly retreating to the ancient temple, it was not the time to go searching for that person. It was essential to preserve one's life, and it was fortunate that person had helped.

Julia Menard watched Hans Hunter safely return and felt a little less guilty, quickly going to support him, only to be coldly pushed away by Hans Hunter. "Are you still not satisfied with causing trouble for my brother?"

"Hans Hunter! We are soldiers of the federation, don't forget, we are always ready to die in battle. What does it have to do with her?" Hans Hunter's eyes were bloodshot, and the muscles in his abdomen were constantly pulsating, making him look very terrifying. He glared at Hans Hunter, frightening him into stepping back.

"It's okay, I'll go rest for a bit," Hans Hunter said as he staggered towards the armored vehicle, where the soldiers belonged.

"Brother! Little brother was shot dead!" The big black man returned expressionless.

"Let him die! It's good to have one less useless person. We don't need to compete with them for food. How long do you think that person's medicine will last?" The withered old man's face smiled wickedly.

"Hard to say," the black giant replied succinctly.

"Wait! Let them kill all those undead, and we won't have to feed them. Let's go get some higher-level ones. It seems like some intelligent ones have appeared in the southern hemisphere. I wonder what will happen after they're infected with the mutated virus. It's probably more enjoyable than hunting yin. Haha, haha!" The old man's withered face smiled as brilliantly as a chrysanthemum, glancing at the black giant standing outside the Lincoln stretch, showing a yearning like that of a drug addict for drugs.

Upon hearing about the new virus, the expression on the black giant's face finally changed. His dry smile cracked, revealing bone, with a dark spot on the bone.

Barrett Walker knew that his position had been exposed, but seeing Julia Menard trying to assist Hans Hunter, he couldn't help but get angry. Gathering his things, he jumped out of the cave and fled. "I've saved you twice, why don't you care about me? This person is so old, and you're still getting close to him."

Hans Hunter opened the medicine box, took out all the medications, and then punched the box with force, revealing a blue vial from the hidden compartment. After vigorously shaking it, the liquid inside remained unchanged. Grabbing the syringe, he injected the medication into his neck and screamed in agony, the sound pitiful.

Outside the armored vehicle, Hans Hunter heard his brother's agonizing scream and glared fiercely at Nie Xiaoqian, making the latter feel even more guilty. He knew very well what would happen after taking the life fluid. There were no fully curative drugs in the current federation, and individuals could only slowly recuperate. Even for physically and mentally strong soldiers, many people had committed suicide due to the torment.

Although his brother had not used his potential after taking the concentrated pill, who knew if he would leave behind any incurable aftereffects.

"Brother! How are you feeling?" Hans Hunter knocked on the armored vehicle, asking urgently.

"Have you forgotten? You are a soldier and should address me as your superior. Keep watch and don't let those undead in. They're all poisonous," Hans Hunter said, feeling a pain he had never felt before. After injecting the medication into his major vein, all the muscles in his body contracted in an instant, and the blood in his veins stopped. He felt unable to breathe, and it seemed as if countless ants were gnawing at his bones. Hearing Hans Hunter's voice, he snapped out of the hallucination and scolded angrily.

"Yes, sir!" Hearing his brother scream at him in such a loud voice, Hans Hunter felt a lot more at ease, saluting and hurrying towards the defense line.

"Are you okay? You really scared me just now." Julia Menard gently knocked on the armor, watching Hans Hunter, who was drenched in sweat, his beautiful face showing a fearful expression.

Hans Hunter raised his hand to indicate that he was fine and said, "Sit down! In fact, we should thank that sniper. If it weren't for him, we might all be dead!"

"Could there be something wrong? I've heard that the dark undead, who can control the undead, have a high rank. A junior officer should not be able to control so many undead! What if another dark undead were to appear in secret? It would be terrible!" Julia Menard reminded him.

"Don't worry. There are many people gathered outside this camp, and I still have several good friends in the federation. As long as I don't show myself, those undead won't dare to act rashly in secret," Hans Hunter said confidently.

A large group of people gathered at the place where Barrett Walker had just been, looking at the concealed traces. They looked around and found no useful evidence. It had only been a short while, yet this person had fired two shots here and left no useful items behind. Who would have thought that Barrett Walker had already reached the foot of the mountain? Rather than fleeing to a better vantage point, he ran towards the bottom of the mountain, taking advantage of their common sense. Barrett had to go to the ancient temple to see for himself. He couldn't leave his future wife alone with someone else.

Barrett Walker ascended from the foot of the mountain and arrived behind the ancient temple. He had a clear understanding of the surroundings, hiding himself in a pile of rubble more than fifty meters away from the temple. Through his sniper scope, he observed the cessation of the slaughter of the wandering zombies outside the temple due to the conservation of ammunition. Barrett had no interest in bothering with them, instead meticulously searching the courtyard for the craters created by the explosions and the nearly destroyed armored vehicles lying around. He quickly adjusted his sniper scope, allowing him to clearly see Julia Menard and Hans Hunter inside a car.

"Seems like they've hit it off," he sneered.

As he watched Julia's ethereal beauty covered in dust, laughing and chatting with Hans Hunter, Barrett adjusted the magnification of his sniper scope, nearly being able to see the pores on Julia's face before returning it to normal and speaking malevolently.

"Hmph! How could you two be like this? I'm the one who truly saved you! Ungrateful dogs, now you're getting cozy with each other."

Barrett was furious and really wanted to shoot them both, but as he looked at the sickly Hans Hunter, he suddenly felt a sense of schadenfreude.

"Bluffing! Just bluffing, you two!"

Barrett shifted the barrel of his gun slightly, aimed it at Hans Hunter, and displayed a hint of malice.

In the scope, Hans Hunter looked like an angry cat, cautiously kicking Julia Menard onto the armored vehicle, causing it to roll over.

Huh? Barrett felt a sense of frustration, as if he was shooting himself in the foot, and he really wanted to pull the trigger, but he quickly held himself back.

Bang! Suddenly, two people descended from the sky and stood in the place where the armored vehicle had just been.

"Quick, hide!"

Hans Hunter set Julia Menard down, picked up a general's sword from the car, and walked out, looking at the lean and elderly man with a hint of a general's authority in his narrowed eyes, gently waving his hand and saying, "Maintain vigilance outside."

Immediately, his soldiers turned their guns around, guarding against the zombies that were attacking each other.

"I didn't expect you to sense my presence. It seems I was a little hasty. Your medicinal effects are still present, huh?"

The lean old man said somewhat incredulously, "It will take some effort, but none of that matters now. You still have to die."

"Oh, really? I think I can hold on for a while longer."

Hans Hunter narrowed his eyes. He hadn't expected this undead to be even more powerful than he had imagined. It seemed like this time, he was really going to die.
