75. Teasing

Nancy Phoenix, this little tiger girl, blushed like rouge and twisted her waist in response to the boss's daughter's sarcasm. "Are you a fool or an idiot? Do you think we're still in the Tang Dynasty? Even if we were, you still wouldn't be beautiful. Luckily, in this era, we have a great invention called a mirror, so you can take a good look at yourself and see how much a pig like you weighs." Nancy handed a small mirror to the woman, not directly calling her a pig, but the sarcasm was crystal clear.

The boss's daughter burst into tears at Nancy's words. Being around the same age, she had never heard such insults before, leaving her speechless and seeking comfort behind her mother.

Nancy didn't back down, snatching the acceptance letter from the woman and declaring, "Do you know the honor of this special admission? It may be just a piece of paper, but it's invaluable, representing honor and future prospects. It's not something you can insult so casually."

The fat boss's daughter retorted, "So what if it's just an acceptance letter? Can it make you rich?!" Seeing Nancy making her daughter cry, the boss intervened, pushing his bulky body in front of Nancy and standing up for his daughter.

This infuriated little Tiger Girl, who was about to retort but was pushed back by the man, nearly falling until Barrett Walker caught her by the shoulder and lifted her up, saying, "Boss! I just wanted to say thank you for letting me work here. If you ever need anything, you can call this number. I'll help if I can. As for any offense caused by my friends, please forgive us." Barrett wrote a phone number on a piece of paper and placed it on the counter, smiling at the boss's family.

Nancy fumed, "How dare you stop me! Can't you see the cruelty on that fat woman's face? I wish I could scrape off the layer of oil and see what's inside!" Glancing at her shyly smiling sister standing next to Barrett, her anger flared, and she marched away.

Barrett was examining the red leather-bound acceptance letter when he noticed the bold, artistic black calligraphy, exuding a daring and determined character. His eyes widened as he read through the letter and saw the words: Mechanical Warfare Department. Disbelieving, he read through it again but found no mention of his grades. Could this acceptance letter be fake? Had he come without his results? It must be a fake.

Lucy Phoenix, seeing Barrett's puzzled expression, anxiously asked, "What's wrong?"

Nancy, seeing her sister's urgency, separated the two and glared at her, then asked Barrett in a loud voice, "What's wrong? Is this letter fake?"

Barrett, looking at the two girls, asked in confusion, "Where did you get this letter and how did you find me?"

Nancy, seizing the opportunity, replied, "Finding you was easy. You take the bus here, right? As for the letter, we happened to see it while picking up something else and brought it to you!"

Barrett, puzzled, asked, "But there's no photo on it. How did you know my name is Barrett Walker?"

"You forgot about the policewoman!" Lucy blushed and spoke up.

Barrett, not wanting to dwell on this boring issue, said, "Thank you."

Nancy, feeling thwarted by her sister, rolled her eyes and said, "She said no need to thank her, but I didn't! You have to treat us to lunch!"

Barrett checked his pockets and pulled out a handful of change, saying, "I only have thirty-something dollars. What can we eat? I can go buy something and cook it at home. How about hot pot?"

Nancy's face fell, thinking she wouldn't be able to take advantage of him. She pinched her sister, who then eagerly said, "You can cook? Great!"

Barrett felt the girls were adorable and wanted to pinch their cheeks, but he restrained himself and led them to the market.

As they walked, Lucy deliberately fell behind and whispered to her sister, "You can't make things difficult for him."

Nancy warned, "If you dare betray me for a man, I'll reveal your secrets."

Lucy threatened back, "I've covered for you before. If you mess up next time, I won't cover for you again."

Nancy, putting on a helpless act, suddenly spotted something in a store and exclaimed, "Wow! This is a rare signed poster and a limited edition album by Julia. Finally, I found it!" In that moment, her eyes were pure and innocent, like a child who had found something precious.

Even Lucy, usually reserved in front of Barrett, was now cheering, "Wow! I didn't expect to find these here. I really want to watch her movie 'A Chinese Ghost Story' and meet her in person."

The lively street suddenly focused on the two girls' excitement, drawing the attention of passersby. In the impoverished area, a phoenix could occasionally rise, but to see two such pure girls was a rare sight.

Barrett, feeling overwhelmed by their enthusiasm, tried to get them to leave, saying, "Let's go! There's nothing worth buying here, and we won't get a full meal."

Nancy retorted, "I knew you didn't plan on buying anything for us. I'll pay for it myself. This stingy guy!" She took out a card from her tight jeans and said, "We're not short of money!"

Lucy, embarrassed, pulled her sister back and apologized to Barrett, "I'm sorry. My sister is just teasing you. Please don't mind her."

Nancy, seeing Barrett offering himself to be teased, felt a pang of regret and said, "She's right. I was just teasing. Thank you."

Barrett, feeling awkward, excused himself and walked away, while the girls continued to browse the stores.

"Goodness, how much is this? Can I pay with a card?" Nansi Phoenix turned away from the two individuals and rolled her eyes, truly, some women just can't be satisfied!

The boss, upon seeing these two troublemakers, rubbed his red, alcohol-flushed nose. When he first stocked the place, he had only bought it because of the beautiful woman on the cover. He never expected it to be a losing venture. There was nothing inside that anyone wanted, so he could only occasionally use her to solve some problems. But after a while, even that got tiresome, so he had just kept her around as a table prop. He never expected that today, he would bring her out into the sun and actually have two foolish girls come right to him, ready to be taken advantage of. Thinking about the cost price from a year ago, he grinned maliciously and extended his hand, demanding fifty bucks! But when he heard the pretty girl wanted to pay with a card, he slammed his hand down on the table and said fiercely, "Pay with a card? No way! Do you think I'm that easy to fool? In this impoverished area, we deal in real money and trade, hmph! If you don't have money, you can sleep with me, and you can take whatever you want from my store."

"Get lost!" Barrett Walk knew this old man was treating these two girls as if they were impoverished women, and he was filled with anger. He kicked over the man's table and pulled the two girls away, saying, "Let's go! I'll personally make you sign what I need."

In the impoverished area, it's all about who's tougher. Watching Barrett Walk easily kick over the heavy table, the man who called himself Old Frog was so scared that he didn't dare speak again. Watching Barrett Walk lead the two pretty girls away, he finally spat and said, "If you hadn't left so quickly, I would have to kill you next time I saw you. Such lively young ladies! Their skin is so good that you could squeeze water out of it." Just as he finished speaking, a tragic scream rang out, and it took a long time for the onlookers to notice, and they all started to exclaim in shock.

While Barrett Walk led the two girls away, he had an idea in his mind. After all, he had a legitimate owner at home, didn't he? It seemed that he would be able to get rid of these two little girls, and he felt a lot more relaxed. Even bargaining for groceries felt like a breeze.
