189.The Rumor Mill

"How do you feel?" The spacious conference room was filled with the high-ranking members of the Warrior Academy, these individuals were the true decision-makers within the academy. However, Headmaster Danus Leo was not present, and Ang-Li sat at the head of the table, presiding over the meeting.

"Not very good," Harry Phoenix, as the Headmaster's favorite disciple and son-in-law, sat just to the left of Ang-Li, one seat below. He did not feel slighted, nor did he exhibit any other emotions. It was clear that he held Ang in high regard. However, he was visibly displeased with the appearance of Barrett Walker on the television.

"I actually feel quite good. At the very least, it has increased the attention on our Sword Sect," Singh Phoenix said, whether she was intentionally contradicting Harry Phoenix or speaking from the heart was unclear. She sat to the right of Ang-Li, appearing somewhat nonchalant as she attended to her nails.

Glenna, who sat next to Singh Phoenix, wanted to tell her to stop, but seeing her nonchalant manner, she could only glare at her. A woman's heart is quite intriguing indeed. Glancing at Ang-Li, Glenna pondered for a moment, then blinked her beautiful eyes and said, "He is our junior brother, although we have indulged him intentionally, we cannot let him become too arrogant. I suggest balancing rewards and punishments."

This was hardly balancing rewards and punishments; it was clearly Glenna's deliberate protection of Barrett Walker. However, the words were difficult to articulate. She said it with such grandeur, wasn't she just deliberately protecting Barrett Walker? But who made Barrett Walker a student of the Mecha Department? Singh Phoenix blew on her finely manicured nails, then raised her hand to glance at them. When no one was paying attention, she glanced at Glenna and found her looking back. She immediately raised her eyebrows at her, as if to say, "Well done, sister, I've got your back!"

"This is unfair to the students," Harry Phoenix spoke, the others looked at him in surprise. From his tone, it was clear that he harbored no good feelings toward Barrett Walker. Was he preparing to cause trouble for him? But that was too obvious. Harry Phoenix ignored the odd looks and continued, "If he is able to fulfill his promises, then he deserves to be rewarded. Otherwise, he should be penalized for dishonesty and arrogance. We must punish him as necessary, otherwise, where will the reputation of our Warrior Academy go?"

Harry Phoenix's words were ambiguous; was he planning to reward or penalize? His statement completely obscured his stance, and the meaning behind his words was quite profound. Only an experienced old fox could understand the deep implications. The others couldn't comprehend what he was up to. However, Singh Phoenix gave her husband a meaningful look. Having been married for so long, she knew exactly what kind of person Harry Phoenix was. His statement, while appearing neutral on the surface, actually conveyed a great deal. She was well aware of Harry Phoenix's position, as well as his attitude toward Barrett Walker. If he were speaking from the perspective of the Sword Sect, it would be in their best interests. However, if he were speaking as the Dean of the Combat Department at the Warrior Academy, then Barrett Walker would be in trouble.

Ang-Li also looked at Harry Phoenix in surprise. As the senior brother, he understood Harry Phoenix's mindset well. Now that Harry had spoken, it would be difficult for Ang-Li to unify the opinions of the others. Looking around, he saw that the entire room was silent, each person deep in thought, trying to decipher Harry Phoenix's intentions. He then spoke, "We do not know what the Federation is planning this time. As the saying goes, 'The enemy comes, and we have the means to resist; the water comes, and we have the earth to absorb it.' This has always been the creed of our Sword Sect. When friends come, we have wine to entertain them; when enemies come, we have hoes to deal with them. They failed in their attempt to seize the Ten Great Swords and we captured one of their legions. This time, as you have all seen, we have managed to shift public opinion in our favor. If the Federation dares to make a move, let the entire Federation see how shameless they are. It seems that the sudden appearance of this person has diverted the public's attention to us. It can be considered a successful step. But we must not become arrogant. Be prepared for a great battle at any time!"

"Must we truly oppose the Federation, and humanity as a whole?" Ang-Li finished speaking, and someone below couldn't help but ask.

"So what if we do? We have never owed this Federation anything, and can this Federation truly represent all of humanity? No, at least they cannot represent you and me," Ang-Li remained silent, and Singh Phoenix put down the nail clippers and stood up, somewhat indignantly speaking. It was unclear why she held such a strong opinion against the Federation.

"Yes! This Federation cannot represent all of humanity, it is nothing more than a violent institution that holds power," many others below chimed in, and suddenly there was a lot of discussion, with everyone expressing their opinions. The mobilization meeting in the conference room had turned into a marketplace-like atmosphere.

"Enough, I just wanted to inform you and have you mentally prepared. It's already getting out of hand. If the students below were to see you like this, I don't know how I would face the students of my War God Academy! Now everyone quiet down and watch the match in peace! It's been so many years and finally, such a unique talent has emerged. We cannot afford to miss it!" Ang-Li reprimanded, instantly quieting everyone down. The volume on the television was turned up a few notches, but the sports arena was filled with the cheers of the mecha division.

And Barrett Walker did not disappoint. After participating in the 400 meters, he continued to the starting point of the 1000 meters without pausing. He signed up for the event, and almost all the cameras were focused on this particular race. This 1000 meters was different from the usual, as it was a mixed-gender race. It was unclear why he had chosen this particular event.

Barrett Walker ran straight into the center of the women's camp, and the audience in front of the television watched as he whispered something to a female's ear, appearing very intimate. Looking at the woman, with her casually tied blonde hair and a small face with snow-white skin, her phoenix-like eyes were alluring and noble, exuding a sense of queenliness, making her unapproachable. But the occasional hint of spring-like affection in her eyes when speaking with Barrett Walker made people envious and jealous, and even resentful. How could such a beautiful flower be inserted into cow dung?

"Ah! Is that Julia next to this beauty?"

"It really seems to be Julia!" At this point, all the cameras were following Barrett Walker, while Monica's companion Julia went unnoticed, becoming a supporting character. Nevertheless, she was still recognized, as she was just too beautiful, especially in her sport shorts, which exposed her flawless, slender, and evenly proportioned legs. Standing there, one could clearly see that her legs were seamlessly aligned, appearing truly magnificent.

The reporters also noticed Julia beside her, and immediately turned their cameras towards her. At this point, many reporters started making noise. This man called Barrett Walker had once appeared at Julia's movie premiere, and what excited them even more was the rumor that had surfaced.

"Barrett Walker, there have been rumors online that you are the Sniper God. Is that true?"

"Sniper God, who said that? I just named myself 'Mad' out of respect for him! If he sees my sincerity and is willing to take me as his disciple, I will be overjoyed." Barrett Walker looked at these people recognizing Julia, and guessed that it was related to the previous rumors about Julia and the Sniper God, so he immediately denied it.

"Is that so? Do you and Miss Julia have any relationships beyond friendship?"

"Hmm! What do you mean by relationships beyond friendship? I'm saying she's my girlfriend, do you believe me?" Barrett Walker rolled his eyes and said, clearly, if he were to claim not to know Julia, wouldn't that be slapping himself in the face? It was better to just admit it outright!

"Does this mean that everything you did in the new 'A Chinese Ghost Story' is true?"

"Hmm! Alright, I do know her!" Julia was afraid that Barrett Walker might say something outrageous, so she immediately intercepted the reporter's vague question.

The audience in front of the television set was already in a frenzy, wondering just how many beautiful women this young man knew! First cozying up to the blonde beauty in front of him, and now being acquainted with Julia, it must be more than just a casual acquaintance! Those who knew the details from the premiere had seen how intimate his relationship with Julia was! At this point, the number of people wanting to blacken Barrett Walker's name had multiplied exponentially!
