187.Arrogance (Part 5)

The Seven Star Television Station is a television building located on the bustling streets of Wei Jing City. The sports news they broadcast on weekdays is usually lackluster, but this time, they were one of the seven major television stations broadcasting the College Student Sports Competition. The station's CEO, proud of his son attending the prestigious Battle God Academy, paid special attention. When an unexpected scene appeared, he quickly ordered his subordinates, "Quickly change the channel, stop the broadcast!"

The subordinate hastily replied, "We don't have a follow-up plan! Abruptly cutting the broadcast could be detrimental!"

"You fool! We can't just run ads without approval!" The boss exclaimed, uncharacteristically resorting to profanity.

"But we've never had any advertisers approach us for this segment," the subordinate said, feeling aggrieved. The stingy boss made working a misery – make a mistake, get fired. It's tough being an employee these days.

"You big fool! Just put up any advertisement!" the boss said impatiently.

"Boss! Good news! Today's viewership for the College Student Athletic Competition has broken records and is still rising. Major companies are already approaching us about advertising fees," the marketing manager burst in with a report. Normally, daily viewership ratings wouldn't be available so quickly, but today's sports broadcast, disrupted by Barrett Walk's presence, quickly spread on the internet. He was going crazy, hailed as the god of war.

"Well, damn! Didn't you hear me? I told you not to change it!" Upon hearing this, the boss hurriedly slapped the subordinate on the back of his head, cursing and grumbling. These days, a good reputation can be lucrative, but it's the journalists who end up with a bad name.

Similar scenes were playing out across all major television stations throughout the federation.

It's madness! The entire federation is going mad. First came the message from the internet: the fierce Sniper God is on the move, so everyone, please be cautious. Then people turned on their TVs to watch the live broadcast.

"Is this person really the God of War? Although he bears some resemblance to the person in the video, well, it's more than just a resemblance! Even the withered wooden branch on his back is the same!"

"Please, someone, tell us what this is! Where can we buy it?"

"I also want to get a stick-like object like this!"

"Maybe he's not the Sniper God?"

"But he looks exactly like the person in the video, and why would he dare to be called crazy? I have a classmate at Battle God Academy, and he has evidence!"

Barrett Walk didn't know that the entire federation had begun paying attention to him. His outspokenness frightened the journalists, who wanted to hide, but Barrett Walk continued without mercy, "You bunch of idiots, do you have any conscience? You'll say anything just to grab attention! Look at this indifferent society now, and half of the responsibility lies with you! The other half lies with the damn federation. Don't tell me that half plus half is a paradox – I'm saying it like this today. This federation is full of nonsense, talking about serving the people, serving humanity, but everything is done for your own benefit!"

This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

"This man is defying the heavens!"

"Isn't he afraid of upsetting the harmony of the federation?"

"Yeah! This guy is too amazing, he's my idol!"

"Alright, the interview is over. You can also watch me win the championship, but I doubt you'd want to!" Barrett Walk waved his hand like an arrogant leader, exuding an air of modern-day swagger.

"Alright! What are you still following me for? Leave! You're already disrupting the competition. You're really despicable. Do you want to be a donkey that needs to be led to move?" Barrett Walk said, and suddenly the group of journalists disappeared in a flash, running faster than anyone else!

"May I participate?" Barrett Walker finally released the teacher, straightened his disheveled clothes, feeling utterly embarrassed as the entire nation witnessed his pitiful state. If he were to return home, how would he answer his child, who might exclaim, "Daddy! You were on TV! Why didn't you take me with you?" He was a teacher at the Academy of War Gods, a high-level warrior, yet he was completely defenseless in the hands of a student.

"Go ahead and participate! I don't care anymore." With a huff, the man pushed away Barrett Walker's attempts to tidy his clothes and stormed off.

Barrett Walker, perplexed by the lingering presence of the journalists, waved at the departing teacher and remarked, "Safe travels, teacher! You're welcome to visit again."

As the departing teacher stumbled, the nearby journalists stumbled, and the entire nation watching on television stumbled. Can't you be less aggressive? This could be fatal.

"Enough talk. Hurry and get my name registered. I want to compete, as I promised to bring glory to the mecha department!" Barrett Walker stated earnestly, causing the teachers and referees to ponder whether they should register him immediately, lest he should unleash even more audacious behavior. They knew they were no match for Barrett Walker, and the influential deans and masters had mysteriously vanished.

"Go ahead and register! When the deans return, they can settle the score. We can't afford any more public humiliation!"

"Barrett Walker, go for it! We support you."

"Barrett Walker, Barrett Walker! I love you, like a mouse loves rice." With his arrogant declaration, Barrett Walker had won over the entire mecha department, as they admired his confidence in challenging the federation. In their eyes, Barrett Walker was not arrogant, but self-assured. This was not the age of slavery, and they would rather be momentary heroes than lifelong cowards. Wade Kim and the others were completely forgotten by the mecha department, as Barrett Walker had won their hearts with his actions.

The 400 meters had truly become the center of attention, captivating not only the entire Academy of War Gods, but also the students in the university town and the entire federation. If Barrett Walker failed to win the 400 meters, or any other event he entered in the future, not only would he become a laughingstock, but the Academy of War Gods would also be ridiculed.

Wade Kim coldly remarked to Barrett Walker, "Even if you lose, the Academy of War Gods will be ridiculed, and the mecha department will be a laughingstock. But I'd prefer for you to lose!"

Barrett Walker had no desire to engage in further conversation with him. Such a person only made him feel disgusted. He believed he could easily win the 400 meters, not only to redeem himself, but to make the entire federation remember him.

However, Barrett Walker was not one to tolerate such behavior. Even in the presence of numerous media, he sought revenge on the spot. As Wade Kim turned to leave, Barrett Walker kicked him in the buttocks and said, "Hmm! Normally, I'd swat a disgusting fly like you on the spot. You're an exception! Just teasing you."

The audience erupted into a commotion. They thought one instance of aggression was enough, but they were not prepared for such audacity and arrogance. To assault a fellow competitor in front of live reporters was unacceptable.

"Barrett Walker fears losing and seeks immediate retaliation."

"Two handsome men engage in public affection, leaving countless women heartbroken."

Countless thoughts flooded the minds of these journalists, some of them filled with regret as to why they were not broadcasting live on the scene! One can only imagine the kind of imitation storm Barrett Walk, with his distinctive and independent demeanor, would stir up throughout the entire federation! However, when these journalists learn about the viewership ratings at this moment, and the public's assessment of Barrett Walk, many of them may continuously lament and sigh at their missed opportunity!
