You followed the light as if it were the only thing that could save you, and it’s probably true. Like someone who was lost in the sea of darkness, you trudged your way to the faint glow.

Please be Lucian’s house, you thought.

Finally, you reached a clearing. It was undoubtedly Lucian’s house. You pressed your forehead on the window to look through. You watched as his mother paced the room with anger, distorting her features. Lucian was seated on the sofa, fidgeting with his fingers, his eyes on the floor.

Your body went rigid for a few seconds as thoughts sank in. I can’t go through. The rain started to drench your body. You ran away before his mother could open the door.

His mother was holding a cleaver; her back was turned against you and Lucian. You took Lucian’s wrist before he could protest and pulled him away from the chair and out of the house.

“Please! Don’t hurt me!" Lucian screamed.

You looked back and saw his mother standing in the doorway, holding a lamp and a cleaver on the other hand.

“She’s going to kill you!" You shouted back.

“No! She’s going to take me to heaveeeen! ”

You had no time to argue with him. You took him to town.
