"Also," Lone man mumbled, "I'm sorry about what happened to Goldie. I tried to stop Mother but it was too late and she was way too strong. Could you..." He pulled out something from the pocket of his coat. "Could you keep this? Maybe someone from your town is searching for her. Can you please give this to them? He handed you a pink collar with Goldie's name written on the tag.
You swallowed the lump in your throat. You could still remember the face of the kid who told you about his missing dog.
"I know it's bad to lie," He said, "But you couldn't tell them what you saw. It would break them. Could you please tell them she was adopted by a nice person and lived her life happy? I don't know if that would work but..."
