Chapter 80: Magic division and Funmi’s company

While Deji and Demola were learning Magic, the sanctuary had organized 13 campaigns on the Rank 4 hordes in the area and 5 campaigns on the Rank 5 hordes. After the first campaign Jola increased the amount of campaigns to be done to 6 times a month, they were High Humans so it was a possible schedule. With the high regeneration speed of High Humans and the population of the sanctuary, it was made reality. The campaigns this time also involved the Rank 1s and 2s.

The Rank 5s felt they were lucky that a more powerful Nemesis horde hadn’t formed, but of course there was the promise of great rewards when a Nemesis horde was exterminated, but they had to agree that the only reason why they could win the Nemesis horde with little deaths was because they got a new Rank 5, Funmi, and the skilled weapons.

Even with that, if the undead had 2 more Magicians it was clear that they may have lost or they or would have won after losing many Rank 4s and 3s which were the backbone of the sanctuaries strength and productivity and worst of all no one would join campaigns anymore.

So it was decided that since Nemesis hordes require new technology to defeat without excess deaths they would wait till they Magic was fully studied before trying to create another Nemesis horde.

During a meeting of his company’s executives, Jola heard the news that Demola had learnt the energy sight spell he was overjoyed but Deji drowned his excitement by saying “Learning Magic is not easy and using it also isn’t easy. If you wanted to use Demola as a Magician you would have to make him fully dedicated to the role. He requires at least 5 minutes to activate the energy sight spell, the time can be reduced with more practice but it would take him a lot of time, I assume 3 months before he can cast the spell in under 1 minute. And don’t forget that he has a High (low) intelligence stat, this makes this one of the fastest learning time”

Jola said deflated “High (low) intelligence… People with that kind of intelligence are rare. Is Magic really not going to be a teachable combat method?”

Anita added “Deji’s discovery makes a lot of sense. The Magicians and Geniuses had low physical stats, this shows that Magic cannot be a optional combat style, it has to be a specialization”.

Demola added “It’s so hard to learn it, I wonder when we will make progress with experimentation”.

The sanctuary’s administration was stretched thin, as Deji had to halt research into Flash Thunder’s technology to learn Magic. At first they thought that since Magic was a technology they acquired themselves they felt it was better to invest in than a technology they didn’t know the origins of. They also knew that relying on Flash Thunder would make them weak if they were ever to face Mira’s master.

But as of now they couldn’t continue, Magic required way more investment than the thought at the beginning. If someone like Demola, with a high intelligence stat required so much time to learn Magic it was going to be a while before they could have a Magician department.

Deji said “Don’t give up yet. It isn’t impossible, it’s just going to take us more time to get a handle on it. I propose that we invest in a Magic division. I know you’re thinking that you’ll have to invest en-code to train people’s intelligence stat, which is very expensive to train, to the High rank but that will not always be the case.

We have learnt that stats are not as linear as we initially thought them to be. Jola has a superior sense stat just like Osaz but he can’t see energy. Talent, that’s what we should look for. I’m sure if we search there will be people who will be able to learn Magic fast without having a High rank intelligence stat, or there might be a way to train normal people into such people. We’re still at the beginning, there is still much that we don’t know, our duty is to learn”

The executives expressed their consent to Deji’s idea. Deji added “I advice we buy Osaz’s explosion spell”.

Everyone looked at him questioningly. He continued “If we do want to invest in Magic her spell is very essential since it was one of the spells that made the Magican and Genius undead so dangerous”

Kore refuted “Even though she wants a whole horde territory to herself?” Deji replied “Yes, the most important spells are Funmi’s energy sight spell, Kore’s energy training spell and Jola’s body enhancement spell. Anita’s spell is a company secret and Demola and Teni’s spell are extremely complex. Even the two most important spells are impossible to learn without guidance or, like me, naturally being able to create the basic patterns.

The body enhancement spell is not suitable for people who need to specialize in the intelligence and energy stat to use, the explosion spell though, is perfect. If the future Magicians we recruit are able to learn the explosion spell then they will not need our help anymore to acquire en-code, that is on the premise that the explosion spell is not as hard to learn as Demola and Teni’s spell”

On hearing Deji’s input, most of the executives showed agreement for the idea. It was then decided that they would buy the explosion spell.

Osaz didn’t teach Deji the static explosion spell, just the explosion one. Luckily, it was only a bit harder than learning Jola’s spell, Deji had not learnt Anita, Teni and Demola’s spells because they were too hard for him, no matter how many times he tried he never succeeded and always made mistakes. After learning Osaz’s spell Deji went back to studying Flash Thunder while making the Basic Magic Manual.

During the time Deji was learning Magic, Funmi’s company grew. She started with a simple deal that provided an en-code salary and accommodation for those who worked in her cloth making industry.

She hired Rank 1s and 0s that had not evolved but aimed to become high Ranks and trained them during the campaign to turn them into Superior High Humans and made them sign 20 year contracts with her. With her external energy manipulation spell she could easily defend the attacks aimed at her underlings by dissipating the energy (Kinetic or others) in the attacks like the Magicians could, although she had to focus on training her energy stat for a while to be able to use it continuously.

She spent the campaigns and raids training her underlings and her free time training Karma’s a Bitch. Her company started booming when she created her first clothing line. It was expensive but the Rank 3s that had saved up and the Rank 4 and 5s could afford it, the Rank 5s especially didn’t want to look bad while their underlings looked good.

Her company stock rose as more regular people became Rank 3s and the previous Rank 3s became Rank 4s due to the compulsory campaigns. People were mandated to participate in the campaigns now as it had a low death rate and so that the sanctuary could avoid a Nemesis horde from forming. Hence the amount of people who could afford her product rose.

She decided that to accelerate their growth she would teach them about her skill. Funmi thought ‘When you think about it anyone can discover the skill the same way I did, the only thing I’m was sure will be very hard to replicate is my Magic, since I got that as a special reward.

I mean if anyone trains hard enough and has the talent and the stat build they would certainly develop the skill. And with all these people going for raids it’s only a matter of time before someone gets the same skill or maybe something even better’. She then decided to teach her underlings that had signed 20 year contracts with her skill through real and practiced combat training.

For the other Rank 5s that didn’t work for Jola, Samad and Mistura, their Magic was something they didn’t wish to share or teach their underlings. They sold materials that had been changed by their spells and they were on a roll, the prizes were perfect for them.

Most armor that was worn was now black while the skilled weapons had red linings and could conduct more energy hence they could output more damage per instant. Along with Anita’s energy stones that could be charged by the users the battle look and style of the sanctuary had changed greatly.
