Mira gathered her resolve; she wasn’t going to always rely on Jade, like Funmi, she too wanted to achieve things by herself without any credit going to him. The Brawler was swiftly searching every room turning them upside down as stealthily as its big body could afford, which wasn’t much as it was creating a ruckus. Mira reached the ground floor and went out through a window.
The Predator that was watching form an adjacent building saw her and the Mind saw her through its eyes. The Predator, who was close by jumped down through window of the building it was in.
Mira seeing this ran back into the building she had come out from, but the Mind had already alerted the Brawler as well as the other Rank 5 undead of her location and had ordered them to kill her. The Brawler was breaking the floors of the building, going directly down to the room she was in.
Mira panicked, she involuntarily started imagining the things the undead would do after they got through her armor. They would kill her in a horrific way, rip her body into pieces and feed on it or feed her to their boss.
She thought ‘Why did I put myself in this kind of situation! So I managed to kill a few Rank 4s with the help of Jade’s knives, but I can’t do shit on my own! I wish Jade was here, why do I have to die in a stupid place like this?!’
She could hear the glass of the windows of the other buildings breaking, she heard the Brawler coming down, breaking floors in its wake, counting down to her death, to the exact second were it would be known to no one but her that she died a foolish death, for just 1,000 en-codes, just because she couldn’t handle her friend leaving for a new life.
Then she realized ‘There is no point in worrying, my worry isn’t going to bring Jade here and it isn’t going to save me, I have to fight, I have to fight knowing that I could die, No, accepting that I would die… I just have to postpone the time of my death a little. No worries that’s simple. Missing an appointment is easier than meeting one’
She calmed down and focused on the sounds around her she thought ‘The Rank 5s are on their way, they have already hit the ground, the Predator is going to get here first, no, it is going to get here at exactly the same time as the Brawler and best of all, no Mind can see through the thick concrete walls that surrounded her, once they entered the building, they would have less coordination. Going by what Jade told me, a Rank 5 mind can see through its subordinate’s eyes but it still can’t pin point their location well without seeing them with its own eyes’.
Mira smiled an armed Tranquil Day, she dashed to the spot where the Brawler was about to fall to, she could just barely predict the way it was falling from the sounds of the breaking floor, from where the impact that broke the floor struck compared to the location sound of the Brawler’s feet hitting the next consecutive floor, she was deduced that it would be facing the door she came out from.
The Brawler descended from the ceiling facing the door that Mira had previously gone out of, it was given direct information from the Minds psychic link and it told him the last seen location of the intruder. What it didn’t know was that it had just obstructed the path of a flying aura slash from the Predator who had come through the door.
The slash pierced its chest, a big injury but not a fatal one. Yet it fell forward and died, on closer inspection a small slash at the back of its head could be seen, it was made by Mira who was behind it with Tranquil, the poison went directly into its brain, it didn’t get a chance to resist.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
From behind the body of the Brawler a blue aura slash flew out, the Predator jumped into the air to avoid the slash, but it got hit on its chest and flew back out of the building, falling on its back. Mira had predicted its dodge path given the limited space in the room, the twitching of its muscles and its body position. She wasn’t perfect at it yet but she was getting the hang of it.
She went deeper into the building without trying to finish of the Predator who was now critically wounded, she could hear the rumbling of the building; the other Rank 5s were breaking through walls to get to her, now was not the time to go out in the open where they could team kill her.
The Predator saw her go further into the building and chased after her ignoring its bleeding wound. It lost sight of her but soon heard the sound of an aura slash impacting a wall, the sound came from the room in front of it on its left. It jumped through the wall at the sound but was met with a stab from a Gladiator holding a spear that had just entered the room through the wall at the same time as it did.
The spear stab, unfortunately for the Predator, went through its wound and killed it. To Mira’s surprise she received a notification for the death of the Predator and was amused, she had only diverted its attention with a properly timed aura slash that put it in the same room at the same time as the other Rank 5. She didn’t even know what the other Rank 5 was.
But now her aim wasn’t killing the Rank 5s that entered the building, she was going after the Mind. She exited the building from another edge, sticking to the sides. The lower Rank undead weren’t in the area since this was a Rank 5 and Rank 4 battle location. Mira peeked out of the corner of the building, the Rank 5s were currently trashing it; they had lost her location, the sound from the walls they broke had allowed her to escape them unnoticed.
She saw the head of the Mind peeking out the window of a tall building that was facing the building she was in and she immediately threw a knife toward it. The knife pierced through the Minds head like a watermelon and the Mind dropped dead.
It had sent all the Rank 5s into the building including the one protecting it and had assumed the role of the look out in case she escaped. It had never imagined that she would escape uninjured, capable of killing it before it could alert the other Rank 5s.
{Excerpts from the article ‘High Humans’ by Avatari, published by Avatari}
{A mistake a lot of High Humans made after they evolved was to consider themselves human. This was due to the fact that most of the early High Humans evolved in a safe environment. The High Human race description clearly states that ‘The High Human race is an evolution of the Human race that comes as a result of Humans living in extremely dangerous and challenging environments’, it’s even the first thing that was said about the race, but people ignore it.}
{I’ve discovered through experimentation and the experiences of others that High Humans only grow at their maximum speed when they are in challenging and dangerous situations, whether it’s their stats, skills or techniques they all grow exponentially in nigh impossible life threatening situations.}
{The second mistake we early High Humans did in line with considering ourselves as human was our understanding of our stats. We still used our stats the same way as a Human would.}
{Martial techniques that were only possible in theory or to a few experts were possible to all High Humans. Our understanding of our strength, coordination and body limits was still human and worst of all, our understanding of our intelligence which was our greatest stat was still limited by our human experiences.}
{All High Humans could sense that they were way smarter than before, they could learn things faster, coordinated themselves more accurately, etc, but that was only the beginning that was equivalent to a baby crawling. Processing large amounts of information that would require the best super computers was possible to us and we could even analyze more flexibly and think more ingenuously than a computer. We never pushed our intelligence to the limit at the start, only using it the same way a very smart human would, not the way a High Human should.
This resulted in many High Humans underestimation their capabilities. This is off topic but the second thing to do after evolution (After testing the limit of one’s new race) is to test the new capabilities one has; understand the make and structure of the new body and mind and the differences from the old body and mind.}
