Chapter 277: Mira's Past

Avatari extended her senses and inspected the crystal to check if it was working well. She found out there was an overheated component that was ruining everything and sighed in relief… is what she wished happened. There was no defect with the crystal that meant Hayley was lying even though she said the truth?

Confusion and suspicion coated Avatari’s face as she asked “Why are you lying?” ‘Could she be an imposter faking to be the real Hayley? That would make all of this make sense’ she thought.

Hayley said “No lies, your crystal thingy must not be working”. The crystal still showed red so in order to prove that it worked Avatari had someone who had not introduced him/herself introduce and the crystal worked fine. She also had someone who had introduced themselves introduce himself again and the crystal worked fine. Avatari said some obvious lies and truths like I am a turkey in disguise and my wings are color white. The crystal worked fine.

But when Hayley said obvious truths or lies like I am alive and I am dead, the crystal showed red, it seemed to consider her existence a lie. This problem got exhausting really fast and Avatari chose to move on with the introductions.

It was soon Mira’s turn to introduce herself and she did: “My name is Mira. I… was a prostitute before the apocalypse… It wasn’t really my choice though. I don’t know my current race and I don’t know my current job. I lost some of my memories at one point”.

Silence filled the island as people took in the information while waiting for the crystal to shine with a color, any color. There was no response from the crystal.

Unbelievable! How could someone not know his/her own race. Many people began to inquire from their IPs what Mira’s race and job was but they got a ‘???’ response for the race. For the job though those who had higher Ranks found out that she had the Predator job using various privileges.

Avatari also performed her checks. This was an unprecedented situation; she had not planned for someone who would truly not know simple stuff about his/herself. She said “This is unexpected. Anyone who knows Mira; if you’ve had a conversation with her before please raise your hand”.

A good number of normal humans raised their hands as well some evolved people. Avatari had some idea how someone who was capable of sensing her when she was hiding could lose their memory but she didn’t want to believe it. Seeing the hands raised and verifying that the truth crystal had not shown any color, Avatari chose to halt the normal progression to rectify this issue.

Mira was extremely shocked by the turnout of people who knew her. She understood that some people from the High Sanctuary, now the APT, would recognize her but she didn’t recognize most since their evolutions made them look completely different. There were demons and a good number of Celestials that had their hands raised. Heck even one of the Celestials that came from the sea knew her. ‘When did I ever talk with a sea person?!’

“Ok, only those who knew Mira when she was a regular human… before she evolved should raise their hands”. Many hands fell until only 2 hands remained raised. One was a Human Elementalist and the other was the Celestial from the sea. Mira was confused by this turn out: she didn’t have memories of meeting anyone from the sea in her head and she already had all her memories before she evolved.

The Human Elementalist was another matter. Now that she focused on him she recognized him, it was Salam, one of Abhad’s subordinates after the apocalypse, the only one who survived Jade’s massacre.

His figure was highlighted by a green light and Avatari said “Salam, What do you know about her when she was a human?” Salam had already introduced himself.

Salam stood and said “She was one of the prostitutes of my boss at the start of the apocalypse. From what I knew she was his property before the apocalypse and that continued after the apocalypse”.

Salam paused, waiting for any reactions and he got one. “Really?! You worked for someone who owned humans?” a psychic message came from one of the seats. It was from a British woman in black full body armor without a helmet, it was Camille, the woman that tried to search for Jade in Nigeria.

A few of Avatari’s eyes looked toward Camille but Samad answered before she could reprimand her. “It was the wisest decision at the time, although not the most ethical. We were all trying to survive”.

“Prostitutes are not needed to survive” Camille retorted. She felt sad that Mira had to suffer at the hands of a twisted person. Although, she didn’t recognize Mira at all; she didn’t know her name when they fought though she looked nothing like what she was back then.

“But siding with the strong is” Salam clapped back. “Still it turned out to be a bad decision since an even stronger person came along and slaughtered all the highest ranked people in the settlement to free Mira and the other… slaves”.

Camille didn’t need any further explanation to know who did that. In her time in Nigeria she had already been told all the information about this person. Avatari was different; intrigued by the story she asked “Who did that?”

“Jade” Most of the people on the island where stunned by Salam’s answer, some questioned whether it was the same Jade they were thinking about. Salam cleared their doubts “Jade, the stealer of men”.

Samuel was feeling sad; his friend was just like the people he had sold to other people. He hoped she wouldn’t hate him for what he had done in his past.

Jake was an extremely different case. He felt Jade was somehow connected to the apocalypse happening but to hear that he didn’t completely disappear after the apocalypse made him doubt.

“I met Mira again after that but that’s all I know about Mira as a regular human” Salam concluded. The only person left that knew Mira before she evolved was the sea person with his hand up. This created an atmosphere of mystery about who Mira was. No one knew any of these merfolk; the fact that Mira knew one of them when she was just human made her even more mysterious.
