56: Susan Part II

56: Susan Part II

I woke to the sounds of someone calling out loudly. I look around to see I am still curled up on the roof in the forest as the sun beams down from high up, suggesting that I had fallen asleep at some point. I look to my side and Asra was deep asleep and her head rests on my body.

“Asra!” I hear yelled from somewhere in the house. I guess Susan is awake but her tone sounded off. Like it was empty. I guess she is still affected by the loss of Johnathan. Although, anyone would be affected by loosing someone so close to them. I look to the sleeping umbreon beside me and figured I should wake her up. I bump my head on hers which causes her to stir.

Its not even night yet. She complains lazily before opening her eyes and takes in the surrounding area slowly before suddenly shooting up awake after looking at me and jumps away slightly looking, ashamed?

Well it sounds like Susan was looking for you. I respond to the suddenly calm umbreon who quickly jumps to the ground from the one story building. I slowly rise and stretch and slowly getting annoyed at the sun. Which is odd cause it never bothered me before. I move myself into the shade out the canopy and feel immediate relief. That’s odd. I quietly say to the noisy forest. Even the noise is annoying me now. I curiously say to myself. Whats with the sudden dislike of the day?

I decided to ignore the question and scan over the forest to see it during the day. I have to say, its a lot mor lively than the night. There are a lot more pokemon out and about. Something moves at the corner of eye drawing my attention to it. I focus on it as I barely catch two things leaving the canopy. I all I caught was a flash of them but one was pink while the other was green.

instead jump from the roof to the ground below. I landed on the leaf covered floor of the forest and turned around to see the door wide open and Snow standing there with a smirk.

Good, morning? I say confused

Did you sleep well? She smugly asks. Kept warm?

This is about Asra being next to me isn’t it. I say back to the shiny glaceon. She only smiles a bit harder before turning around and walking back inside without a word. I start walking towards the house before a seed of doubt enters my mind and haults my approach.

What if Susan breaks down again when she sees me because I inadvertently told her about a close friend’s death? Should I just leave?

I quickly bury those thoughts and continue walking, knowing that running away is the wrong move.

I enter the house and can see that three of the five doors that span the hallway are open and the sounds of a few conversations happening in the kitchen area as well as the smell of food being cooked.

The first door I look into has a large play area for pokemon. It has a few obstacles to jump across, a few toys, a basic kids slide. A large open window was on the opposite wall that I would guess is so the other eeveelutions can go outside as they please. I’m going to be honest, I really wanted to play for a bit after seeing that room. Dotted around it was a few of the beds I woke up on, so I assume that is where the rest of them stay during the night.

The second room was a basic bathroom that had the necessities for a human but not much more. It was also rather small leaving very little to navigate. Although one person in the middle of the forest probably didn’t get many visitors.

The third open room was a small bedroom. I guess this is where Susan sleeps. The bed sheets where all over the place and things were strewn across the floor. From the door entrance, I could also a wooden closet and its front was covered in pictures. There was ones with various pokemon, the eeveelutions, and in one them was a latios which I for some reason felt like I had seen before. All the pictures had natural background such as waterfalls, deserts, mountains and forests. The odd thing however, that in all of the pictures, only one other human was present.

The person wore a black shirt and long black pants in every photo and was very pale. His eyes were a deep red and his hair was black. One name came to mind who it was that was in those photos.

So that’s what he looked like. I think quietly aloud.

I moved on to the kitchen and saw Asra curled up next to Susans leg as she sat one of the chairs. The other one felt more empty than it physically could. Beside Asra was a plate of small nut shaped things that smelled like bread. Susan turned to look at me. Her expression was hollow and she is evidently grieving. But her eyes had something else in it. Determination? I couldn’t exactly tell but something was there. We both stayed still as we looked at each other, not saying anything as the room felt smaller.

The silent staring contest was finally broken as I looked away and stared at the ground.

“Do you know where the person you travelled with is now?” Susan suddenly asks, drawing my gaze back to her.

No. I say quietly and despite all reason, ashamed.

“Well where should we start looking.” She responds with determination. “I need to meet this person you travelled with.”

I was taken back by the sudden change in her state. Last night when she learned that Johnathan was dead she was clearly broken but whatever spurred this on is directly related to this persons demise.

Um. She is probably looking for me in Camphrier town. I answer. I just feel like that is what she would do.

“Well, we can head off shortly than. You going to come Asra?” Her voice both hollow of emotion but with a steady tone. Asra looks up to Susan with a confused look and quickly glances at me before nodding. “Have something to eat first Shade and then we can set off.”

I look to Susan who is visually conflicted but seems ready to face this head on.

The sound of sliding ceramic draws my attention down to Asra who had pushed the plate of the food towards me from her position. She looked upset still and I couldn’t blame her. I slowly walked over to the plate and ate one of the small treats which tasted amazing. I looked towards Susan once again and still say the determined look in her eyes as she stared the opposite chair.

A sudden dim energy drew my attention as I felt something in the distance, causing me to suddenly become alert. Susan and Asra seemed to not notice it at all, but curiously looked at my reaction. The energy felt odd but somehow it felt familiar. Almost like it was part of me. But it similarly felt foreign. As it slowly got closer, I felt another even fainter energy coming towards us as well. I didn’t know what it was but my body reacted and shot off. I ran through the house and out the door towards the energy as I heard the others suddenly start moving.

Deep down I knew who the second weaker energy belonged to.
