“It’s a mega stone?” Jennifer questions as she rises to her feet. “And for an umbreon?”

“That is what that guy wrote on this.” Oliver responds slapping the paper. “I say we head into our room first.” He adds while turning to enter our room. Both Jennifer and I follow. My ear is twitching because of the chain and stone around my ear. I enter the room last, and Oliver closes the door behind me and turned on the lights. Jennifer and I sit on her bed while Oliver sits on his. Sune and Lumi were still somehow asleep.

Can I read the letter? I ask Oliver getting a confused look due to the lack of understanding.

“She wants to read it.” Jen helpfully says, prompting Ollie to hand over the note. Jennifer held to note so both herself and me could read it.

SO LET ME EXPLAIN A FEW THINGS FOR YOU GUYS.

FIRST UP, THE THING AROUND THAT ADORABLE UMBREONS EAR IS A MEGA STONE. IN PARTICULAR, ONE FOR AN UMBREON. AN UMBREONITE IF YOU WILL. I GOT IT FOR A JOB YEARS AGO, MOSTLY BECAUSE I COULDN’T FIND THE GUY I WAS GIVING IT TO AND FUNNLY ENOUGH, I STOLE AND REPLACED IT ON THAT VERY SUBMARINE YOU GUYS WENT ON. WEIRD HU.

SECONDLY, THE EXACT REASON I DIDN’T STEAL AWAY THOSE TWO VULPIXES IS THAT WHILE I STEAL FROM AND EVEN ATTACK PEOPLE, PLACES, AND POKEMON. I HAVE STANDARDS! THAT GUYS IS HONESTLY LUCKY I DIDN’T JUST KILL HIM THEN AND THERE FOR HIS ACTS.

I am going to kill him. I say after I finish the note, getting a surprise look from Jennifer.

“Well you never complain when I hold you.” Jennifer happily adds.

I do. I return with a glare. You just don’t listen.

“But anyway, Oliver, you ever heard of a mega stone for an umbreon?” Jennifer asks her brother.

“No I haven’t.” He responds as he grabs his phone. “But they do occasionally find new mega evolutions. I think the most recent was a few years ago and it was a mega haxorus.” He starts scrolling through his phone looking for something. “Here it is. The pokemon was actually found in the Kanto region and while there isn’t any images, it was confirmed by a few professors, most notably professor Oak.”

The mention of Oak got my attention cause I mean, how old is that guy now? He seemed fairly old from what I saw in the games and stuff and I’m about 40 years after all of that. Anyway, they just find new mega evolutions? Oliver just kept going through his phone as I feel an arm wrap around me and I start moving sideways and get squeezed.

Can you not. I say glaring at Jennifer who just ignored me. She just used her free hand to start going through her phone also. I just sigh and sit there knowing that unless I potentially harmed her, I wouldn’t be going anywhere.

It was probably three in the morning and both twins had fallen asleep. Jennifer had let me go at least but her phone was still on which I decided to use to look up some stuff. I managed to grab her phone and I moved to the corner of the room before I grabbed myself a pillow so I had something to lay on while I searched for some things. Once I was happy, I started trying to use to the phone. Keyword is trying. It didn’t seem designed for a pokemon to use so I was quickly getting annoyed with it. At least the general layout of the phone and the internet browser. After several minutes of fighting with the thing, I managed to find a method that worked. I had to have my paw perpendicular to the phone and keep it like that to work it.

But with that out of the way, I decided to look at mega evolution stuff first. I started with the recent haxorus discovery and was surprised at what was there. Turns out, they didn’t find a mega stone, rather this wild haxorus was found naturally as a mega evolution. It was located by a powerful trainer who was exploring mountainous terrain within Kantos borders. The trainer at first thought it was a new species but latter three professors arrived and searched the area and managed to locate it once again. The professors then approached the normally passive species but while it didn’t attack immediately, it was clearly defending its territory, forcing the three professors to back off and study it from a safe distance. There was no description of what the axe pokemon looked like, but it has since not been reported to have been seen again.

With the surprise of permanent mega evolution out of the way, I decided to look into how that happens. The first web page I found stated that this phenomenon has only occurred once while a pokemon has been bonded to a trainer. Every other recorded permanent mega has either been seen in the wild or caught in the wild. No one knows what causes it to trigger but even years of research have concluded what causes it.

The page also included a mention on what a mega stone. To summarise what they believed to be. They are a dead pokemon. Specifically, one who had died while they were a permanent mega. That is the theory anyway as even though there have been quite a few permanent mega evolutions found, they seem rather resistant to dying. There have been several recorded incidents of various criminal organisations trying to kill these mega pokemon but as far as anyone knows, they all ended with the same result. Casualties of both human and pokemon life on the side that attacks these pokemon. And a lot of destruction.

There was also an added note to the end of the article. Due to the belief of how these stones form, people have given them a second name. Blood stones. Which is the most ominous name I’ve ever heard for a rock.

Now with my curiosity satiated on that, I moved over to the current list of pokemon with a recorded mega evolution and I was surprised. From my memory, I could remember about 30 mega evolutions but the list I am currently looking showed quite a few more than that. I would say roughly one hundred to 150. There was also a few interesting ones present. Just to name a few out of the list; farfetch’d, ditto, shuckle, solrock, basculin, genesect, sudowoodo, chimecho, dunsparce, electrode, shedinjia, wailord, milotic, zoroark and Durant.

I mean, how does a ditto even mega evolve? What on earth does a mega ditto even look like? Is it just a bigger ditto? Does it have a different colour? There isn’t any images outside of a few of them like mega Charizard and other popular ones by the looks of it. And isn’t shedinjia have like 1 hp in the games?

A sudden lack of light drew my attention away from my inner confusion as I notice the phone is turned off.

Well shit. I say aloud. I should I have made sure it didn’t turn off. Now where is the on button? I fiddle the with phone and find a button located on the top and when I managed to press it after a few minutes trying to, it only showed a low battery symbol on the screen before going black again. Great, its flat.

I hop up from my comfortable spot in the corner and carry the phone in my mouth back the Jennifer and just leave it on her bed before going back to the pillow and deciding to lay there till the sun comes up.
