Oliver took a deep breath and began to slowly read the story from long ago.
“Before the time of even kingdoms, humans had co-existed with the various pokemon of the world. Until a great calamity struck the world, slowly killing all life. Very little could survive the impending end until Arceaus himself showed. But even his might could only slowly cleanse the world of the taint. During this time, he witnessed a person, frail and weak, digging a hole in the dry, cracked, and lifeless earth with nothing but his hands and an old, rusted cup. He watched as after several hours of being in the sun of this dead area, the man called to an old log where several similarly ill pokemon crawled out of.”
“The man reached down with his cup and scooped a small amount of water, not for himself, but for the pokemon. He allowed the pokemon to drink first before doing so himself. A few days past as more and more pokemon and people arrived at the spring. He would always drink last, no matter how long the line started to become or how deep his well became. As Arcueas continued cleansing the world, the man continued to help those in need before himself. He became liked by all that visited his ever descending well, but that didn’t save him in the end. His constantly weaking body eventually gave out and he collapsed. While laying on the ground, he watched as people and pokemon helped to give him water, but it was too late for him. His last wish to be able to hear the thanks of the people, pokemon and animals he saved. As the brown cracked soil turned to green grass and lush trees, his body remained next to his well which filled with water.”
“Once he finished healing the planet, Arceus appeared before the body of the man and with his power, he returned the man to life, granting him his dying wish of being able to hear the words of all around him along with giving him five guardians to help protect the plant from further corruption. The man wandered the world, speaking to all, helping all he could along the way.”
“But he wasn’t granted immortality and thus, eventually passed away. His power leaving his body and entering another similarly kind soul.”
“The power eventually split into multiple people during the era of kingdoms. Each person gaining the connection to a particular typing, granting them the ability of communication and other mystical abilities relevant to their connection. These individuals were highly sought after, either for the service or their extermination. For years, the attuned as they were called, hid away from the world, before coming together to topple kingdoms, sending the world into chaos. “
“And as quickly as they appeared, they vanished. Leaving behind nothing but the smouldering structures that use to be castles and towns. The attuned seemingly vanishing excluding whisperings of strange individuals with odd powers. Ranging from flight to the ability to walk through molten rock, these whisperings always held one common trait. The communication between pokemon and people.”
“As the years progressed into centuries, the attuned became fewer in number, till none remained, and the connection they held, vanishing along with them.”

Oliver looked up from his screen after finishing the legend, waiting for a response.
There was a fair amount to take in there, but it defiantly was on the right track. Of course, all legends and myths are just that. But there is always some sort of truth or reason for some details that there is no way for us to know the answer to.
“I guess it’s a start.” Jennifer shyly responded. “But how much of that is true?”
I guess that is the big answer for this. How much of this is true? It at least seems the idea of the type connection is there, but then why does she get something from Froakie then? He is a pure water type from what I recall. And by the looks of it, she might have the dark attunement. Of course, it could because she has been around us longer. Which still doesn’t add up because she got a stronger connection from a sableye she met on the street. Could the ‘Attuned’ as they were called communicate with any pokemon? But Jen couldn’t get any feeling from Aron.
“Maybe you aren’t the only one?” Oliver suggested, breaking my train of thought. “Even though the story says the connection vanished, it either is wrong and it just was rarely discovered, or it did indeed vanish, but is now coming back.”
“Maybe?” Jennifer responds. “But whatever the outcome, we can’t tell anyone about this, trait.” She says fidgeting. “I know we won’t be able to easily search for others like me in that manner. If there are any.” Her body tenses up. “But I don’t want to find out if the whole, being treated as something someone wants to keep to themselves or get rid of.”
I’m sure it was only part of the legend. I try to comfort but doing a bad job to and make myself feel better knowing my original planets history with people believed to use magic. It was just really hard to ignore the similarities from my world. So what now? I ask.
Jennifer looks like she is going to answer but holds back. She just comes over to me and hugs me.
“Why don’t we put on the news?” Oliver suggests, turning his laptop around as a female news reporter starts speaking with an image of Prism Tower in the background.
“Due to the recent events at Prism Tower, it has been discovered that Liam, the replacement Gym Leader who was placed in charge after Gym Leader Bonnie vanished 3 months ago, was directly involved in Team Rocket operations and allowed the organisation to build and work in secret within the structure. Bonnie’s disappearance is now believed to be the work of Team Rocket although at this time, nothing has been confirmed. A large number of staff were also operatives for the criminal empire.”
“It is currently known that the organisation was leading pokemon into the tower and capturing them but the pokemon managed to escape and seemingly searched for and destroyed the luring device. Further confirmed information is being restricted to those involved in the incident and the police for the mean time. We will continue to cover the story as more information is released to the public.”
The news then heads over to the regions weather report. But its interesting that Clement is no longer the gym leader, rather it was his sister. And despite me telling the detective about Z, he wasn’t mentioned in the news. I guess they don’t want his knowledge widespread as of yet.
Oliver looked disappointed after hearing the news and noticed my concerned look.
“Don’t worry Shade, I was just thinking about the fact we were going to challenge the Lumiose Gym but I guess that wont happen for a while.” He responds to my unsaid question. “I guess we will head off to claim the Cliff badge then. What you reckon sis?”
“I guess.” She responds.
Well then, I guess we’re going to have to wait to fight the Lumiose Gym. Oh well. Off to the next gym we go!
