Through the canopy high above, I could see the almost black moon sitting high above everything telling the world around midnight was present. Asra was quietly laying with my head resting her, clearly enjoying the comfort me being here is providing. But I was getting the urge to run around for at least a few hours. But I also didn’t want to disturb the other umbreon as she is likely still hurt by the round about news of a close friend’s death.
Um. I hear Asra say, getting my attention. I never asked your name. And I didn’t ask Torch what your name was either.
Oh, I didn’t even realise. I say surprised. My name is Shade.
No offence, but that is so generic. She says with a chuckle. Did the trainer with the ability choose it or did you?
Jennifer gave it to me and I just kind of accepted it.
So, the one with ability is named Jennifer? She asks, not moving from her position.
Yeah. We both go quiet for a while before I came up with an idea. Do you want to play a game? I ask lifting my head, causing her to raise hers and look at me curiously. It’s called spotlight.
She thinks for a bit before curiosity clearly gets the better of her. How do you play it? Asra asks with a hint of playfulness coming into her solemn tone.
Its fairly simple. You have seekers and hiders. The seekers use a light to find the hiders. If a seeker has their light on a hidder and they make it clear they have found them, the hider is out. The seekers win if everyone is found while the hiders win if the seekers give up.
As I finish my explanation, I can see her tail start to move back and forth excitedly.
Wait here. She suddenly says before she jumps up and bolts off into the forest, leaving me alone on the ground.
Several minutes slowly pass by as I lay there listening to the forest. It is quite peaceful. Surprisingly, there were fireflies floating about in the dark and I could hear the sounds of crickets. I wonder what other animals are still present in this world? Are they all small species that just rapidly reproduce? Are there other more exotic animals?
The sound of rustling grass draws my attention causing me to stand ready. Asra leaps into the open space around the house as I hear more footsteps approaching.
Okay, I found more pokemon to play the game with. She excitedly says. As if on que, a growlith enters the clearing with a smile on their face. The fire types is more stealthily followed by a primarily orange fox that had black ears, black tipped paws and tail, black and white markings on its face, along with a white stripe that goes down its chest.

Hello! The obviously male sounding growlith excitedly yells with a wagging tail. The other fox-like pokemon stood quietly to the side looking at me.
Shade, these are Ember and Kit. Introduces Asra. They are the only ones I can find that want to hang out with me at night.
You hang out with a human, what do you expect. Kit says in a tone that says ‘no shit’ but they had a very plain voice so I don’t know if their male or female. It suddenly came to me what the orange and black fox was. A nickit. It is one of the few I remember from the newest game. So, you finally found a partner? Kit smugly adds.
I felt myself suddenly blush and unable to answer. I glance over to Asra and could see she is acting very timidly suddenly before glaring back at the nickit. No, I haven’t. We found her unconscious and helped her! She angerly stutters.
Sure. Kit responds with a smile. So other than showing off your new partner. Why are we here? Kit sarcastically adds.
First up, she is telling the truth. I respond with a slight glare. And I wanted to play a game with Asra and she went off and found you so do you guys want to join?
Yes, how do we play! Ember eagerly yells while hopping in place. With that, I quickly explain the rules but Kit interrupts.
You two are the only ones who can be the, ‘seeker’, as you called them. They say, making me pause.
Well me and Shade can be the ones who swap between hiding and finding. Asra happily adds.
Who cares! Ember still eagerly yells. Shade can hide with us first!
Kit doesn’t seemed fazed and just shrugs. Asra just nods before closing her eyes and starts counting, to which Kit bolts off into the darkness with Ember gesturing for me to follow him before he also darts into the night. I take after the growlith and we run for a bit before finding a rock outcrop with lots of small caves and hiding spots. Ember darts into one I couldn’t fit in so I found some large bushes to the side which I hid in. I removed the light from my rings and eyes and sat in the forest silently while listening to the world around me.
It was at this point I realised one small issue. I don’t know the forest and the other three do.

We played till the sunrise started to show on the horizon, which led the other two to both leave back into the forest. Both Asra and myself were on the roof of Susan’s house with Asra’s crush on me evident by the fact she wouldn’t lay down anywhere but right next to me, even if I shifted my body, she moved hers. What is odd is I do really enjoy her being next to me. The issue is I don’t know which part of me is. Or if its both my human mind and pokemon body telling something. I really hate this new body sometimes. I wish whatever caused me to be reincarnated in this world gave me a book on how this body would react to things.
But seriously, how where you so bad at that game! Asra asks again for the seventh time since we ended.
Don’t rub it in. I respond with disappointment in my tone. To be fair though, I don’t know this place at all while you’ve been here for what, years?
Decades! She joyfully corrects me.
We both go quiet for a while, watching the stars we can see through the canopy slowly fade away as the sunrise starts. In my mind, there is only two thoughts going about. The first is how I am going to find the twins once I am able to. The second thought is about how weird my life has gotten.
