“They all have the same blood type,” Oscar lets out a chuckle as Andrew now rubs his head. “You ok there pal?”
“I just have a headache right now,” Andrew replies as Oscar doesn’t buy it.
“How about you sit down,” Oscar says as he guides Andrew inside a room. “Sit here.” Oscar has just led Andrew to his office where he sits right across him, shoulders back and head held high. He leans forward in a cocky manner, but Andrew is too distracted with his headache to notice.
‘I would love to see him talk his way out of this now,’ Oscar thinks as he’s now ready for the interrogation of his life but just then.
“Sir!” an officer bursts into his office.
“What?” Oscar says in a frustrating growl.
“Sir we have just arrested the killer, he’s brought on for interrogation.” For a moment the blood drains from Oscar’s face as he looks shocked. He can’t understand what’s happening but it’s almost like he was back in time. Nicholas was within his reach but no evidence to prove anything, just like right now. As the officer repeats himself, Oscar sinks further into his own world thinking there is no way out, no way to prove what he knows, no way to convict ‘Nicholas’.
“Oscar?” Andrew’s voice brings him back. “I think I want to go back and rest, I don’t feel too good.”
“Of course,” Oscar answers defeatedly. “Let one of these guys take you back.” Oscar tries to brush all of his feelings away as Andrew walks out with one of the officers. He soon puts on a professional face and goes to meet his seniors. The woman who was knocked out had seen the face of the man who attacked her date, she identified him and now he’s in custody. Oscar quickly flips through the file and enters the room where the man sits trembling unable to look up.
“So, Mr…. Kane is it?” Oscar asks as he tries to wipe off all trace of disappointment from ten minutes ago.
“I swear I have done nothing wrong,” Kane says in a terrified tone.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“You don’t have to be so nervous,” Oscar says non-chantant manner. “I’m just about to ask you some questions.”
“I was at home the entire night. I was reading a book and didn’t leave my apartment,” Kane says as the agitation in his voice only further irritates the already disappointed Oscar. “Please I didn’t do anything, I shouldn’t be here.”
“Would you just shut up! I haven’t said anything yet.” Oscar shouts as he notices the visibly shaken Kane. He backs down, pretends to go through the file in his hand, gets up and leaves the room.
“That was professional,” Clarissa comments.
“Not now Clarissa,” Oscar says trying to ignore her. Clarissa Hansley, this strongheaded woman was assigned as Oscar’s partner during police training. Always excelling in everything she did, she was quickly everyone’s favourite but her attitude made her a rival to everyone. She had been watching Oscar’s interaction with Kane from the other room with a mischievous grin, ready to make a comment. “So, this is the guy,” Oscar says with a sigh.
“You know, there is more than one way to get a confession out of someone. Maybe you should try being more aggressive next time, he looks so relaxed.”
“I agree,” Oscar says. “But you know me, always hated serial killers.”
“What?” Clarissa’s mouth hangs open as a proud Oscar gives her a superior smile.
“Didn’t you know, this has been happening in a few towns, men being left on the street with their insides out,” Oscar smirks as he notices Clarissa’s envious expression. “You knew that didn’t you?”
“There is no way you figured that out,” Clarissa comments as Oscar lets out a laugh.
“Why? Didn’t think I’d notice something you didn’t,” Oscar smirks and before another word can escape his mouth.
“Sir your friend was right on the money about this murder. Twelve murders, all done in the same way starting from the north and now the latest was in our town,” the officer says walking in unaware of the conversation. As Clarissa smiles as she puts her hands on her waste, standing as if posing with the biggest catch of the day.
Oscar is not as bothered with Clarissa as he normally would be, feeling disgusted that he must now refer to Andrew as his ‘friend’. The officer continues and Clarissa discusses the man’s clear mental state. Oscar seems to be in his own world until he hears a familiar voice.
“Ann? What are you doing here?” Oscar asks nervously.
“I was asked to come here, regarding Kane. Is everything alright?” Suddenly a flashback played in Oscar’s mind as he stayed silent. Ann was Kane’s doctor and so she was called in for the case. Clarissa decided to brief Ann on the situation in hopes she can get him to calm down and talk.
Ann goes in and meets Kane, the man seeing a familiar face finally beginning to calm down. Following a few short exchanges, Kane finally says.
“I’ll tell you.”
