Perfect

The next morning, following a well-deserved sleep, Anna slowly opens her eyes as she notices Benjamin coming into the room with a tray.

“Good morning sleepy head,” Benjamin says as he sets down the tray and sits next to her.

“Morning,” Annalise says still feeling sleepy.

“Coffee?”

Annalise takes a sip of coffee as she looks at Benjamin, beaming with happiness.

“I never understand how you can have so much energy. Don’t you get tired?” Annalise asks as Benjamin smirks.

“Well, I guess I’m happy the wedding is finally over. I finally have you all to myself,” Benjamin smiles as Ann thinks back to the past few months. The two of them were busy with the wedding and work. Despite their constant efforts to spend time alone, they were always interrupted. Now that Oscar and Fiona are off on their honeymoon, there’s no one around to get in their way.

“I missed you, Ben,” Ann says leaning on Ben as she closes her eyes.

“Hold on now, you aren’t sleeping just yet. I have something really special in mind for us.” Ben pauses and says, “We are going out for the weekend.”

“What?” Ann says surprised.

“Just the two of us,” Ben says smirking as Ann is happy to have some time off with Ben. Yet in a moment her smile leaves her face as she yawns.

“Still tired, are we?” Ben asks as Ann nods her head. Ben takes the coffee cup from Ann and says, “Sleep in for a while, we’ll leave at noon.”

“But where are we going?” Ann asks as she lies back down.

“You’ll see,” Ben says walks out of the room with a spring in his step.

Benjamin had everything planned out, the perfect weekend and the perfect proposal. First, he’ll take her to a resort, he managed to book a beautiful cabin near the mountains. A perfect place close to the main building but far enough so they can have their privacy. Following a perfect day of showing her with love and spending time with each other, he will ask her to marry him under the stars. Having the place well decorated, Ben wants to give Ann all the happiness she deserves. And so, he happily packs for the two of them and they drive out the ‘Erins’.

“This is amazing,” Ann says as she enters the Erins resort. She stretches feeling refreshed and energetic as she slept in the car while Ben was driving.

“Nothing but the best for you.”

“What is up with you? You’ve been acting like this all day,” Ann asks as she peers into his face.

“I think you’re still dreaming,” Ben says brushing off her question calmly as he proceeds to the counter. Having everything prepared, he is excited but also nervous. Taking a deep breath, he is convinced nothing can ruin this weekend, and just then he hears the sound of thunder. He looks outside and sees the sun shining bright with a few drops of rain barely visible.

“Nothing to worry about sir,” the receptionist says. “Just a drizzle, it’ll pass.” Ben decides not to think much of it but two hours later, the drizzle is now turned into a storm.

“Just a drizzle? You have got to be kidding me,” Ben says in an unsettling tone as he looks out the window, watching as raindrops violently fall against the glass window.

“Don’t worry Ben,” Ann says as she hugs him from behind. “It’s still a lovely evening, the fireplace looks nice and cozy.” Though Ben is concerned about his plans to propose, Ann’s smile is all he needs to enjoy the moment. They soon learn that the rain has proved too much and the resort won’t be able to bring them food. Making good with what have, they decide to cook, but all they find is some instant noodle. Ben is now visibly disappointed with this turn of events as Ann tries her best to keep him happy. As the sound of raindrops intensifies Ben begins to consider abandoning his plans.

“What’s wrong?” Ann asks as the two of them are now sitting near the fireplace.

“It’s nothing,” Ben says as he doesn’t want to ruin the surprise. Ann moves closer to him and wraps her arms around him.

“I really enjoyed today.”

“You don’t have to lie you know,” Ben says sighing. “This rain ruined everything.”

“Not everything, it’s nice spending time with you after so long,” Ann says as Ben smiles, unable to stop thinking about his proposal.

“Lighten up Ben, what’s the worst that can happen?”
