Questions

“I knew he wasn’t Nicholas,” Ann says, her voice sounding relieved with a hint of disappointment, as Ben barely notices the change in her voice.

“So what?” Ben says. “Anyone can have a tattoo removed.”

“Ben, please think about this rationally,” Ann says sighing. “I don’t want to falsely accuse someone. We need to take this slow.”

“No, we don’t,” Ben says angrily. “We should just call the cops and let them deal with this situation.”

“Ben please calm down,” Ann says but is interrupted by the now aggressive sounding Ben.

“No Ann, you need to think about this properly but you clearly can’t.”

“I am thinking more clearly that you,” Ann replies trying to sound calm. “Ben you angry now and I guess I understand why. Your life was turned upside down after Scarlet died and now…”

“Ann, this is now just about Scarlet,” Ben replies. “It’s about me not wanting a killer out on the loose.”

“We don’t know that. You can’t just assume such things, Ben.”

“Assume? Ann Nicholas has killed more than just one person. He was responsible for Gregory too. The guy was a killer and a liar,” Ben says.

“We should calm down and let him rest. When he wakes up…”

“Let’s wake him up,” Ben says surprising Ann as he approaches the sleeping man.

“Ben!” Ann shrieks as Ben shakes the man who is lying down.

“Wake up man, are you just going to lie there pretending to sleep while we argue,” Ben says aggressively ignoring Ann. “Give us some answers! Wake up!”

“Ben! That’s enough!” Ann says tugging on Ben’s arm as he finally lets the man go. He is still fuming but Ann’s touch calms him enough to let go. “Would you please just relax.”

“How do you expect me to relax when…” Ben’s words are interrupted by the man who is now trying to open his eye. Ben is shocked at what is happening and stands there silently as Ann goes closer to him.

“Hey,” Ann says as the man turns to her and tries very hard to keep his eyes open. “Can you tell you your name?” The man looks at her and then looks up seemingly turns pale. “Relax, everything is going to be alright, we will take care of you,” Ann says lovingly as Ben clenches his fist, wanting to interrupt so badly, but he doesn’t. He knows now is the best chance he has to let this man confess, and maybe Ann will finally admit to the truth. “Could you please tell us what’s your name?”

“Name…” the man says in a soft voice. “I don’t know,” he says as he begins closing his eyes again. Ben steps forward to speak but is silenced by Ann’s deadly gaze. The man is now unconscious, Ann checks his pulse and it’s normal, the man seems to be sleeping.

“I think he’s lying,” Ben says.

“Enough!” Ann says angrily. “What on earth was that? You’re lucky nothing happened.”

“But…”

“No Ben,” Ann says sternly. “You aren’t coming in here anymore until he wakes up in his own time. If the rain stops in the morning, we will call an ambulance and not a word of this to Oscar or the cops.”

“You can’t be serious.”

“Yes, I am,” Ann says as she gestures him to walk out of the room and he does, knowing he let his anger take over. After they leave the room the two of them decide to get some sleep. As they lie down and Ann tries to relax as Ben embraces her and says.

“I’m sorry Ann.” Ann looks over her shoulder to see the remorseful Ben. “I overreacted, it’s just after seeing him, I don’t know what came over me.”

“I understand,” Ann replies. “It’s difficult for me too. I thought I’d never see him again.” Though Ann though she could wait for Nicholas, their time apart proved to be too much. Soon she gave up on the idea that she would ever see him again and decided to move on with her life. “Let’s just get some sleep,” she says embracing Ben as the two of them close their eyes.

They barely sleep for five hours before they get up, both restless. The rain has now stopped and they decide to call an ambulance to take the man to the hospital. They soon hear someone outside and see Dr. Kai walking towards the cabin.

“What are you two doing up so early? Couldn’t sleep?” Kai asks.

“No,” Ben lies. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m a doctor, I guess duty calls,” Kai says smiling as they let him in, He goes to examine the man, who is now gaining consciousness, looking around tired and confused.

“How are you feeling,” Kai asks as Ben and Ann look on anxiously as the man speaks.

“Who am I?”
