'All I want is to be loved by someone….' Annalise Smith thought to herself as she drives around town late at night. She drives around aimlessly, trying to comfort herself. The empty streets leave her with no one to confront but herself. With a growing frustration inside her, she recalls the events of the day.
Today was like any other day for Annalise. She is a Ph.D. student studying psychology and is now doing an internship on campus. It is a great learning experience as she observes Dr. Knightley treat various patients. After a long day, Annalise just wanted to go home and relax. But as she leaves university grounds she checks her social media and finds out her ex-boyfriend is getting married. A picture of her ex and his new fiancé annoys Annalise as she tries to ignore it. As she returns home she bumps into her neighbour and crush Nicholas Fisher. Nicholas is a journalist and is now heading to a live celebrity event. He being a gentleman, briefly speaks to her before he leaves. This short conversation however, sadly made Annalise realize certain things.
Annalise now drives around town with various thoughts going through her head. She is single and in her late twenties, she has not been in a proper long-term relationship and the man she has a crush on for more than a year sees her as nothing more than a friend. Annalise's hands begin to tremble, clenching the steering wheel as she tries to control her tears.
'Why can't I be in a relationship? Why am I so unlucky in love? Why can't I ask Nicholas out?' As her mind fills with such questions, the last question stuck with her. 'I have known Nick for a year and have barely tried…' Annalise thinks back to how they met and how kind he was to her. He was one of the few people she felt comfortable around, which she found liberating. Despite this, she has never made an effort to try and get close to him. This wasn’t because she didn't know how, but rather she was nervous to.

Trying to comfort herself, she finds herself driving across a bridge. She takes a deep breath, looks around and notices a sports car parked there. She begins to slow down as she notices a man leaning over the bridge looking down. She slowly parks her car and quietly gets out, careful not to startle the man. She approaches him slowly and as she gets closer she says softly "Excuse me…"
"What?" The man says as he jumps up and turns around, startling her. "Hi…" He says looking drunk. He tries to stand straight and takes a few steps towards her. "How may I help….?" He says as he loses his balance and falls to the ground.
"Are you ok?" Annalise says as she tries to help him up.
"Yup…" He says as he sits on the ground. He looks up at her. "Can you help me?"
"Sure…" Annalise says as she sits down next to him.
"I am trying to get there." He says as he points to the railing of the bridge.
"There is nothing there." Annalise replies despite understanding what he meant. "How about we stay here." As she says these words the man begins to cry bitterly as he tries lying on the ground.
"What's the point?" He says in a soft voice. "Staying here? What can I do here?"
"Relax." Annalise says as she tries to hold him up, patting his back. "Let's take you home."
"I don't want to go home…"
"Ok… let's just walk to my car then." Annalise says as he begins to calm down. "Come on, let's get you up." She says as she stands up. Though hesitant at first he slowly stands up too, though not steady on his feet. He leans on her as she puts his arm around her and they walk closer to her car. Once she gets to her car, she opens the passenger's seat and just then the man turns her around. Startled at what was happening she leans on the car with him coming closer to her. He looks her straight in the eye and what was first an upset look had now turned passionate. He leans in closer as Annalise cannot look away as she begins to notice not only the passion but pain in his eyes. He leans in closer and opens his mouth and says.
"Scar…"
