Knock Knock

Ben and Ann hear a knock on the door and they wonder who it could be at this hour. The hotel said they couldn’t send food, and no one in their right mind would be wandering around in this weather.

“Who could that be?” Ann mutters as she opens the front door and finds no one there.

“It’s just the rain,” Ben comments as he looks outside from over her shoulder, finding no one. The two of them decide to ignore the sound and relax, but as they close the door, then they hear it again.

‘KNOCK KNOCK’

This time, they are sure about what they heard and realised the knocking isn’t coming from the front door but from somewhere else. Ben and Ann go to investigate and find the knocking coming from the backdoor. Though Ben appears to be brave, he can’t help but recall a horror movie he saw recently, this was how the killer got into the house. Nevertheless, Ben goes ahead of Ann and decides to slowly open the door. Just as he touches the handle, he hears the sounds of something hitting the floor and hurriedly opens the door.

“Oh my gosh,” Ann says as she looks over Ben’s shoulder to see a man having black hair lying on the ground covered in blood. Ben quickly picks him and as soon as he looks at that man’s face, he is unable to hold onto him.

“Nicholas…,” Ann murmurs as Ben catches the man before he falls again and brings him into the cabin.

“We need to call a doctor,” Ben says as he puts the man on the couch examining him. The man’s head is bleeding and Ben waste no time putting pressure on his wound. The man lying unconscious has a strong resemblance to Nicholas aside from his hair. This sudden encounter has left Ann in a daze as she watches her boyfriend try and save the man.

“Ann?” Ben calls out as he notices his girlfriend’s dilemma. “Ann, are you alright? Say something,” Ben says as he leaves the man and stands close to her putting his hands on her shoulder. Ann is unable to look away from the man and speaks.

“Save him. We have to save him.” Trying to comprehend the situation Ann finally moves closer to the man and examines him. “We need a doctor; we have to try and stop the bleeding before it is too late.”

“Ok,” Ben says as he attends to the man while Ann tries to call an ambulance. She paces around the room making a few phone calls, she then pauses looking anxious. “What’s wrong?”

“They can’t come because of the rain,” Ann replies softly. “Some tree fell somewhere and something happened. Turns out they can’t come here.”

“What do we do?” Ben asks.

“I called the hotel, and they said they had a doctor staying there,” Ann says. “He’ll be here soon.”

Silence soon fills the room as the doctor arrives shortly after that with one of the resort employees, who clearly used the umbrella for himself. Drenched from the rain, there stands a young man having silky long brown hair and deep hazel eyes.

“I’m Dr. Kai,” the man says politely as he walks in and takes off his coat. The hotel employee follows him, a short, thin man with a large nose, having an uncaring and cold demeanor. The doctor notices the man bleeding on the couch. “What happened to him?”

“We don’t know. He was knocking on the back door and when we opened it, he fainted and…” Ann says stammering.

“No need to worry miss,” the doctor says calmly. “I’ll take care of it.” Ben takes Ann to another room and quickly returns to help the doctor. After a while, he soon leaves to join Ann in the other room. Ann looks troubled and Ben too cannot help but think of the same thing.

“I think we should call the police,” Ben says.

“What? Why?”

“What do you mean why?” Ben asks surprised. “If that man is Nicholas, then that means…”

“Ben how many times must I tell you, Nick was innocent,” Ann replies sounding agitated.

“Ann.” Ben knows Ann has been in denial since the incident, no matter how many times he asked her she always said the same thing.

‘Nicholas is innocent.’

“Ok, he might be innocent but he is still a suspect. I mean Oscar would have a few questions for him.”

“Ben, Oz is on his honeymoon right now,” Ann says sternly. “You are not planning on calling them, are you?”

“Of course not. Fiona would never forgive me if I did,” Ben says sounding disappointed. “But this is really important,” Ben says burying his face in his hands.

“Ben,” Ann says as she sighs. “Maybe it’s a good thing. Maybe this guy isn’t Nicholas at all, maybe just someone who looks like him.”

“Excuse me?”
