A few days later, Nicholas has quickly become comfortable with his surroundings and now helps out in the house. Ann helps dress his wounds which seem to be healing well. Ann and Ben are surprised with the man’s kind and loving nature, but what surprised them more was his ability to mess up so easily. Despite good intentions, Nicholas was clumsy often hurting himself or even broke things. Because of this Ann keeps an eye on him and is around when he’s doing chores. Ben is left puzzled with this man’s actions, unable to comprehend how someone could act so convincingly. There are times Ben too had to convince himself of what he believed. Ann on the other hand begins to feel that the man living with them might not be her ex-boyfriend. Though there are times his words and actions truly remind her of him, his behaviour in general nothing like Nicholas. Despite this, a part of her hoped otherwise.
After Nicholas takes a few days to relax, Ann finally takes him to meet Emma. Emma is really excited to meet Nicholas and is really curious about him, while Nicholas on the other hand is nervous.
“Just relax, she is the smartest person I know. If anyone can help it’ll be here,” Ann says as Emma walks out of her office.
“Hi, you must be Nicholas,” Emma says with a warm professional smile.
“I think so,” Nicholas says letting out a nervous chuckle.
“I see you haven’t lost your sense of humour,” Emma says smiling as she looks at Ann. Ann knows Emma is very good at her work but she is also nervous to discover the truth. “I’ll see you at lunch,” Emma says as Ann nods. She puts her hand on Nicholas’s shoulder to reassure him, as he smiles trusting her judgement. As Ann leaves Nicholas is taken into her office where he sits down nervously.

“Please make yourself comfortable,” Emma says. “I have some tea and biscuits if you like.”
“That’s alright,” Nicholas replies.
“You know, I was thinking about redecorating, maybe putting up some posters,” Emma says as she sits down on a chair opposite him. “I’ll be having some tea if you don’t mind.” Nicholas nod as she pours herself a cup of tea.
“Your office is great,” Nicholas says. “Maybe you can put in some flowers or plants or something.”
“Didn’t really think of that,” Emma replies. “Taking care of real plants is a pain, even after a lot of effort they might just wither away.”
“You can keep some fake plants,” Nicholas says as Emma smiles noting him becoming more comfortable.
“Nicholas, how have you been feeling?” Emma asks.
“I’m feeling better.”
“I can see that, Ann and Ben have taken really good care of you,” Nicholas smiles at Emma’s words. “I looked over your report, that was quite a bad injury you had.”
“Yeah,” Nicholas said. “My head feels better and honestly I feel at ease. I mean I am upset I don’t know who I am but I feel so relaxed. Like something has been taken off my shoulder.”
“Well, we all like a breather every now and then,” Emma smiles and she continues. “Can you tell me why you chose the name Nicholas?”
“I didn’t,” Nick says. “Ben and Ann did.” Emma pauses for a moment and then continues to talk to him for a while about his stay.
“You seem to be recovering fine,” Emma says by the end of the session. “There is no particular cure to help with amnesia but for now I suggest you try and live a normal life.”
“Would my memories ever come back?” Nicholas asks looking disappointed.
“Maybe,” Emma replies kindly as Nicholas smiles as she takes note of his expression. Nicholas felt at ease now and though he didn’t remember anything he knew something heavy lies in his past. Ever since his injury he has felt relieved and though curious, he enjoys the peace he has right now. After the session Nick returns to the apartment, as the day goes on Emma and Ann meet for lunch.
“How was your day?” Ann asks as she sits next to Emma.
“Let’s just cut to the chase,” Emma says smirking. “You want to know how it went with Nicholas right?” Ann smiles as Emma continues. “Before anything, did your and Ben know someone named Nicholas?”
