“Wait,” Oscar says as he opens a drawer in his desk, takes out a file and hands it to Fiona. Fiona looks at it for a moment before looking back at Oscar. “Since we are being honest, I want you to see this.”
Fiona takes the file and opens it. In it is a statement made by Scarlet a few weeks before her kidnapping.
“A few weeks before her kidnapping, Benjamin had assaulted Scarlet and her boyfriend. The police got involved and we had to put him in a cell for the night. He was heard screaming ‘I’ll kill you.’ And though no charges were filed, she said she was worried something might happen. Her boyfriend assured her there’s nothing to worry about.”
“So, it’s true,” Fiona says softly as Oscar nods his head in agreement.
“I did not randomly choose Benjamin,” Oscar says as he takes the file from Fiona. The two of them sit silently for a moment and then Fiona leaves the room. Oscar lets out a painful sigh as Dean comes into the room.
“You ok?” Dean asks.
“Yes,” Oscar says trying to avoid the question.
“I’m sorry pal,” Dean says.
“What for?”
“I have known my whole career. You never reveal details of any investigation, not even to your sister,” Dean says recalling Oscar’s fight with his sister that lasted a few weeks. Oscar ignores these words as he goes through various papers. Dean understands his silence and leaves him be.
That evening, Benjamin is at the sports club fencing, hours after fencing practice is over. He stays there alone waving a sword around unenthusiastically, almost like he was trying to swat a fly. As some time passes, someone opens the door.

“Oh. Hi,” Benjamin says.
“Hi Ben,” Nicholas says as he walks in. He is dressed in fencing gear and is holding a sabre (sword). “May I?” He asks approaching Benjamin.
“I didn’t know you fence,” Benjamin says.
“I rarely do,” Nicholas says as he stands in front of him. “I just wanted to see you in your element.” He says taking a stance and putting on his helmet. Benjamin smirks, puts on his helmet and the match starts.
“Looks like I win. No surprise there,” Benjamin says removing his mask.
“Time to get serious then,” Nicholas says removing his mask, he throws it aside and taking an aggressive stance. Benjamin is a professional with years of training, he found Nicholas’s actions cute and laughable. But with a serious face, he throws his mask aside as well and decides to continue sparring for a while.
“So why are you here all of a sudden?” Benjamin asks as he tries to stab Nicholas.
“I wanted to talk to you at your strongest,” Nicholas looks at Benjamin as he smirks. “I wanted to tell you, you are a selfish man,” As Nicholas says these words in a cold voice, Benjamin is thrown off guard and Nicholas wins a point.
“What? What do you mean?” Benjamin asks as they begin sparring again.
“I am going, to be honest. Stop using your pain as an excuse to hurt others,” Nicholas says startling Benjamin with his behaviour and winning a point again.
“I didn’t hurt anyone,” Benjamin says. “If anything I am the victim here, being accused of killing my wife! Why is everyone after me for that?”
“Because you behaved so badly people believe you are capable of anything,” Nicholas says in a calm yet dominating voice.
“What?” Benjamin says softly, sounding agitated.
“Just look at the way you treat Ann, isn’t that proof enough?”
“What are you saying!” Benjamin says getting angry.
“Tell me, did you ever apologize to her for what happened at D&Zzzz,” Benjamin remains silent for a moment. “Or rather were you ever going to apologize to her?”
“Shut up!” Benjamin says as Nicholas uses technique and brute force to knock the sabre out of his hand as he charges.
“You’re so selfish,” Nicholas says. “You even ruined your sister’s relationship and for what? Your ego?”
“I said shut up!” Benjamin says as he charges at Nicholas ready to punch him. Nicholas steps aside and punches Benjamin in the gut causing him to fall on his knees.
“You have nowhere to run now. You can’t blame anyone but yourself,” Nicholas says coldly. Nicholas stood before him tall and strong leaving Benjamin on his knees.
Nicholas took the sabre and puts it against his neck boldly. “You have done enough.”
