“I’ll tell you,” Kane says taking a deep breath and shutting his eyes really tight. “I know you won’t believe me, but I trust you, Dr. Smith. Even if there is no evidence now, there will be a time when there is. Promise me you’ll testify on my behalf.” Ann nods with a reassuring smile.
“We just want to know the truth, Kane,” Ann says.
“First promise me you will testify. I know they’ll come after me, but you can do something about them. Your brother is a cop, he can protect you.” Kane’s words make Oscars heart heavy as he watches them from the other room.
“Just relax first,” Ann says in a soothing voice. “I promise I’ll do whatever it takes.”
“Ok,” Kane says firmly staring at Ann. “Here it is. You know I was abused growing up right, my parents always wanted a girl child for…whatever reason. What I didn’t tell you was, I had brothers,” Kane says sighing deeply, looking as if he was about to vomit. “We were all locked up, barely fed, barely taken care of, then our mom just left and our dad brought home someone else. She only saw us once when we were eight. She didn’t say anything, I don’t even remember what she looked like, I don’t know if she did it on purpose but she unlocked the door. That was our chance and we took it. We ran out of the house,” Kane says now trembling as he avoids eye contact. “We ended up in an orphanage, it was decent enough. There we learned a few things, read, write, get a job… act normal. But he… always wanted more. He told me and I couldn’t go through with it. He said he’ll still support me and I didn’t have a choice,” Kane says now hyperventilating.
“Kane, get a hold of yourself,” Ann says in the most compassionate manner. “I think we should…”
“No!” Kane says desperately. “I’ve held this in long enough. You have to stop them, I don’t know why they’re doing this but, STOP THEM!” Kane says before he emotionally collapses. A medical team rush in to help him Ann stands up shocked, Oscar takes her out of the room as Kane is taken care of.
“That was really something,” Clarissa says as Ann sips coffee in her office, trying to take in all she has heard.

“She doesn’t need to be here,” Oscar says as Clarissa ignores him.
“How long has Kane been coming to you.”
“Two years,” Ann replies as she keeps sighing. “I knew he had an abusive past but to think he’d say something like that.”
“Which part?”
“He has brothers,” Ann mutters loud enough to grab Oscars attention.
“Can you explain a bit more Ann,” Clarissa says as she sits next to her while Oscar dreads the idea of his sister being involved with yet another maniac.
“I have seen his file, it’s true he was abused but he had a brother, he was killed by his parents, and that’s why they finally got arrested. He was at the orphanage by the time that happened,” Ann says feeling nothing but sympathy for the poor man.
“You know he probably killed like 12 people we know off,” Clarissa says surprising Ann.
“There is something called tact you know,” Oscar says from the corner of the room.
“I’m just telling her she shouldn’t feel bad for someone like that. I mean someone who sympathizes with a killers can do anything, if you ask me they are better off behind bars,” as Clarissa laughs at her own comment as Ann furiously stands up.
“So, I should be arrested? Is that what you’re saying?”
“Calm down it was a joke. And besides, I was just telling the truth. Kane was identified by the woman who was attacked today. And from everything else we saw today, he’ll clearly plead insanity.”
“Maybe you should do your job instead of making sick jokes,” Ann says causing Clarissa stand up.
“What did you say to me?” Clarissa says as Ann who looks determined as she stands her ground against an intimidating opponent. “I’m the one who arrested that man and you were supposed to give your ‘professional opinion’ on him not play his attorney. You’re the one who needs to do their job.” Ann stares angrily as she continues in a cocky tone, “Oh, did I hurt your feelings? You’re supposed to be a professional and not involve your feelings, right?”
“I am not involving my feelings!” Ann defends. “Its not right to convict someone wrongly.”
“Convict? My job is to arrest, conviction will be decided by a jury,” Clarissa says as she prepares to walk away.
“You’re still judging him though,” Ann says as Clarissa turns to stare at her.
“Yes,” Clarissa says in a snarky tone, trying to remind herself to not engage in violence with a civilian. “It is my job to judge such people because if I don’t innocent people will die.”
“You don’t know his story. What if it’s not his fault and….” Clarissa cannot control her laughter as Ann looks at her angrily, ready for confrontation.
