Episode 96- The Mirage before the eyes!

I walked out of our bedroom with dark circles under my eyes.

I made some breakfast for everyone and left it on the table.

I took a plate for Natasha and me upstairs.

We both ate quickly ate our breakfast just before Sasha woke up.

While Nat took care of Sasha, I went downstairs with the plates for the cleanup duty.

Jack came out of his room looking tired but not as tired as me and Natasha.

“You are early!” I stated in slight surprise.

“Try replacing a baby for an alarm and it works perfectly.” He stated with a tired grin to which I laughed.

“I have prepared breakfast for everyone along with lunch for you. Make sure to eat it and take your lunch. Don’t disturb mum and dad let them sleep. If you need something come, ask me.” I told him to which he nodded as he went down excitedly to try my cooking.

“Make sure to knock on the door before entering our room,” I warned him. I do not want him entering only to have Nat pointing a gun at him. It would be very awkward for everyone if that happens.

“Okay.” He assured me and went down.

I walked into our room to see Natasha was looking at Sasha in her hand tiredly.

She hasn’t had proper rest for nearly 2 days now.

I smiled and took Sasha from her and placed her back in her crib which fully woke Natasha up. She pulled down her top to cover her breast and smiled at me tiredly.

“Use your healing ability if you are that tired,” I told her as I stroked her hair.

She shook her head. “I longed for this experience my whole life and I am not going to destroy this moment with some super healing. I want to fully experience what it is like to be a mum.”

I kissed her forehead.

We slept for 3 more hours before we were woken once more by Sasha.

Mum offered to take my place and look after Sasha with Nat while I get some rest. However, I declined due to wanting to look after Sasha myself.

“You are going regret those words very soon David.” She said with a foreboding smile before she left.

Mum prepared lunch as Nat and I was too tired to do it ourselves as we were taking care of Sasha.

Few days went by like this and the dark circles in our eyes grew.

One day as I went down to get some rest, I saw dad sitting there watching TV.

I sat next to him tiredly.

“David,” Natasha called me just a few moments after I had sat down which earned a chuckle from him.

I got up and went to help Natasha with whatever she wanted.

I came back down to see my dad grinning at me with mum.

I sat between them and leaned back my head as I spoke to dad. “You were right when you told me babies are demons after Jack was born, dad.”

“You should have listened to my advice back then of not having any babies.” My dad said with a smirk just as I slept.

"And should have accepted my offer." Mum taunted me along with dad, while I drifted into sleep.

"Wahhh!"

"David!"

However, I was soon woken up by Sasha’s crying and Natasha yelling. I jumped out of the sofa before my mum could and ran upstairs much to my parents’ amusement.

Days passed by like this as I began thinking it would be nice to not be so possessive of my daughter and let my parents take care of her every once in a while.

“Pass me the napkin…” Nat outstretched her hands to me as I tiredly went to grab the napkin.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

However, I suddenly froze. The in-depth knowledge of my extensive digging into mind stone laying cracked in my mind after Rooted Potato played around with it.

The wonders of the mind and the ability to create intelligence laid bare before me. However, I paid that no mind as my attention was elsewhere.

I tried sifting through all this knowledge to find any possible trace of who keeps attacking me mentally…

“David!” I woke up and looked at Nat’s worried face. “You, okay?” She asked me.

“Sorry.” I apologised as I grabbed the napkin from the table and passed it to her.

“What happened? You just zoned off for a moment.” I smiled as I helped her clean up Sasha.

“You know about those dreams I keep having?” Nat nodded in worry. “I just found a lead to who might be the source of it.”

I could see the worry in Nat’s face as she looked down at Sasha smiling at us. “Don’t worry, I am not going anywhere without you,” I promised Nat understanding her worry.

“You better.” We smiled as we watched our daughter.

6 weeks passed by before everything calmed down.

The dark circles under Nat's and my eyes had slowly disappeared as we got used to Sasha keeping us awake and learned of her waking up patterns.

Not just that mum and dad would occasionally now take care of Sasha while we both slept, much to their joy at having their moment with their granddaughter away from our possessive hands.

*Beep* Nat looked at me seeing the beeping noise on my watch. “Everything alright?” She asked me as I looked at the results presented in my watch in worry.

“1 moment,” I told her as pulled up the hologram of results before me.

[19.5200°…] I bit my lip seeing the location of this coordinate. I have been using everything I gathered from the mind and space stone for the past few weeks in trying to locate the source of the dream’s disturbance, and the final result showed me this green stone embedded on a necklace.

‘Did this mean the Ancient One was behind the attack? That would be nonsense because if…’ I shook the thought out of my head as I sat down.

Nothing made sense. Deciphering the space stone pointed me to the mind stone, so using the same theory I should have gotten something out of the mind stone, and it was the time stone.

“David.” Nat shook me breaking me out of my thought process.

“I just feel lost Nat.” I sat down looking at the dead-end I walked up to.

“Why?” She asked me causing me to explain to her what was happening, in a simple version.

“Then why don’t you just confront her?” Nat suggested me.

“But what if it turns out she did…” She placed he index finger on my lips.

“You are scared, David. You are scared in finding out the possibility that your teacher and friend could have been the one to manipulate you all along, because you are lost in not knowing what to do to them if that is true.” Nat told me.

“What should I do then?” I asked her.

Nat shrugged her shoulders as she turned around to carry on folding Sasha’s clothes. “It’s your life, David. As a father, you will make the correct choice. I will be here with Sasha, to bear the consequences with you, no matter what.”

I stood there watching her back for a moment as a smile came upon my face. Going forward, I hugged her. “I will be back.” Nat nodded as I kissed her.

Opening the portal towards Kamar Taj, I went to the Ancient One’s room. “Come in.” The Ancient One called out before I even knocked.

“I saw you peeking into the Eye of Agamotto, may I ask you the reason why?” She asked me as I walked in.

“Are you the one behind my strange dreams?” I asked her without beating around the bush.

If she said yes, everything would make sense. Of everyone, in the universe, she would be one of the only people capable of holding onto and mess with both the tesseract and mind stone before it was brought to Earth, without leaving any trace.

The Ancient One smiled hearing my question making me worry. “What makes you think that?”

“I finished my study into the space stone which led me to the mind stone.”

She nodded hearing that. “I am aware of that.”

“I just finished my study on mind stone which led me to the time stone which is in your hands.” She nodded calmly hearing this.

“What will you do if I say it was me?” I felt like grabbing her throat for a moment before I stifled that feeling. My memories of spending my time with my teacher and hanging out with everyone in the mystic arts told me to be patient.

All those sleepless nights of worrying over my fear of Nat’s death was not something to be played with but I needed to hear the reason as to why she played so dangerously with my feelings.

“Can I ask why you did it?” Instead of replying all, she gave me was a shrug.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked her back.

This time she threw something at me. Grabbing it I looked down to see the ever-familiar necklace. “How can I see a specific future beyond my death?” The Ancient One asked me.

At that question, everything I held together in my mind went flying out. “It wasn’t you?” I asked her in shock.

Of course, it wasn’t her. She could barely see the future beyond her death, then with me clouding her vision, it has to be a miracle for her to grasp that exact future.

“You know the answer to that question yourself. I have some important things to do. Return the stone to me on hand, when you are done.” Saying that a portal appeared under me causing me to drop into my research base under the sheet of ice.

A huge amount of relief flooded me as I got up. I smiled as I looked down at the stone that Ancient One had given me. 'It wasn't her.'

Worry began flooding me as I remembered what I was dealing with. ‘These freaking stones are just leading me around a goose chase…’ As I was thinking that an idea came to my mind.

‘What if the attack wasn’t from the present but rather the future?’ Such a question made so much sense in why the mind and space stone would point to the time stone. A period in the future where the stones were together, was used by someone to intrude upon my mind.

At this thought, my theory of it being my future self-doing these things reinforced itself in me.

To prove this theory, I just needed to do one simple thing… to have that dream one more time as I meddled with the time stone now.

If the dream happened again through the insane mental defence of my mind, it would prove that it would definitely have to be me doing all this. After all, only I myself can break the mental defence on my head.

Placing the time stone down for further study I went back home. “I am back.” I hugged Nat from behind as she played with Sasha.

I could sense her breathing out a sigh of relief. “So?” Nat asked me.

“It wasn’t her.” Nat nodded as she relaxed on my hold with Sasha.
