Episode 48- Counter...Strike!

*Click* I looked down at the 2nd gun pointed at my chest. ‘Taser? He really isn't taking any chances with me, is he?’

I smiled towards Clint as I activated the HE serum. “I certainly do but now is not the time,” I said as I quickly moved my hands to Clint’s wrists and pushed the gun and taser, which he was about to fire, away from me.

*Bang* “Shit!” His eyes widened due to not even having realised what had happened as the taser fired.

Before he could react, I went into my pocket and grabbed the special dose of serum I carried to take care of Thor should he have refused to give me his blood. “This is going to sting.” I apologised as I injected the dose on his arm.

“Ughhh…” Clint held his arm in pain as he dropped the guns and moved back.

He was looking at me furiously. “Don’t worry the burning pain will fade after a few seconds before you fall unconscious. It will be temporary, and you will wake up after 20 minutes.” I told him.

“Ah!” *Thud* He tried tackling me but fell forward as he could not handle the pain and numbness going through his body.

I walked forward to pass him only to be stopped as he held my legs with his shaking arms.

*Sigh*I sighed as I looked down at him. “I am sorry for lying to all of you.” His grip was loosening on my legs.

“Tell Nat…” I saw that Clint had already lost his consciousness.

“Never mind.” *Sigh* I walked out sporting a smile to see Phil and his agents downstairs surrounding the whole vicinity fully equipped for war with several pieces of equipment around the building.

“David, I don’t think we have met.” Phil greeted me with a smile as everyone locked their guns on me.

I looked down from the balcony and smiled seeing them.

*Slam* Jumping over with my bag on shoulder from the 1st floor I landed cracking the floor slightly. *Clack* All the agents pointing their guns, unlocked their guns seeing this.

“I think we have agent Coulson. You certainly saw me back in New York that day with Obadiah Stane.” I told him with a smile.

“Sorry I kind of forgot about that. Still getting used to you being Jack of all Trades and all.” He chuckled to which I joined him.

“Agent Romanoff misses you. So why don’t you come and say hi to her?” He asked me with his most charming smile. A part of me wanted to accept his offer at the mention of Natalia.

“I am afraid that is going to be a no, for now, agent Coulson. I have rather important meetings to get to.” I swept my eyes around to see all sorts of techy gears aimed at me.

“I think you can attend those after meeting after coming with us David. Romanoff hasn’t been exactly happy with your run off.” I placed my eyes back at Coulson.

*Whizzz* A whizzing sound began. Looking at the machine that was making the irritating sound I kind of figured what it was as soon as I noticed the light on my watch having died off.

“Good move disabling my tech first.” I complimented him.

“Brought it down for the otherworld hammer, but few last-minute adjustments were done to use it against your gadgets.” He shrugged as he waved his hand.

*Pew* Just at that moment I heard someone firing at me from 200 meters away with my enhanced senses.

“However, I don’t just rely on tech.” *Swoosh* I caught the bullet without even turning around to the surprised eyes of many agents there.

Coulson had an expectant look on his face. “I kind of figured just wanted to make sure.” He looked behind me.

“Now!” *Pew**Pew* Turning around with my enhanced speed I saw several dart projectiles flying towards me from every angle. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that those were laced with chemicals to knock me out.

Without delaying I jumped to evade every single dart before time began resuming back at a normal speed for the others.

“You covered every angle…” The dart flew below me as I spoke.

“…But you forgot the sky. That will be your failure Shield.” I landed back down just as the darts passed away much to everyone worry as they carried on firing.

However, noticing Coulson’s confident look I knew there were more things he had in store for me. *Bam**Bam**Bam**Bam*

“Till next time Agent Coulson.” I grinned as time slowed down. Looking in the direction of the sound I noticed 4 wide nets flying at me from above in 4 different directions.

With the darts coming in from the side and nets flying from above, most metahuman would have been captured.

Noticing the small gap between the nets I aimed myself for that spot and leapt. *Boom* I flew up.

“I take back my words! Good job covering every angle!” I shouted as I flew up much to Coulson’s horror.

“Damn it, after him!” Phil ordered but it was too late as I had begun moving at a speed much faster than they could catch up with me. Landing a few km away I took off and kept increasing the distance between them and me.

*Beep* I looked down at my watch which had started up again.

Tapping on it while running I looked up Coulson’s current location. They were far off with no hope of catching up to me.

“Hmm?” I noticed they were tracking me with a satellite above and keeping me within their eyes.

I looked up at the sky and waved before clicking on my watch and activating the EM field and wiping any digital capture of me. I was now invisible to any machine till my watch ran out of power, which would take a long time.

I kept running for a while, making sure I had my eyes and ears on Shield. Once I made sure they were not following me at all I made my way to the base I had hired on my first day in New Mexico.

*Creak* Opening the door and walking in I didn’t dawdle around as I soon got to work as excitement filled me. My hands were shivering from excitement, so I had to use rooted potato to set up all the equipment.

“Here we go!” I smiled as I carefully took out Thor’s blood from the vial in my bag and kickstarted my examination of it.

If this worked I would be one step closer to getting back with Nat and giving her the life, she always wanted.

*Ding* With the examination finished I looked at the results with my heart pounding.

“Huh?” I double-checked the results with a huge pit now growing in my heart.

“Don’t tell me…” Sweat crawled from my face as I ran test upon test on the blood for the next few hours attempting all sorts of ways to fix the problem.

The problem was a simple one. There are no books in the world that are dedicated to looking and understanding at how to approach a completely different alien biology outside of earth.

“Fuck this!” *Bam* I lost my cool and just punched the wall in anger.

The Asgardian DNA wasn’t even a double helix let alone their oddly functioning cells. If it were a simple case like that I could have figured something out given enough time, but no... the Asgardians had to go an extra step didn’t they!

They placed some kind of genetic lock to protect their DNA. In simple terms, they have set up an impenetrable vault behind which held all the treasures to their DNA. Trying to open it was like telling a caveman to open a digitalised security system through programming.

“I wish you all the best mortal David. If you are successful maybe we can have a duel." Thor’s words resounded in my mind as I finally understood why Thor was so lax in giving me his blood.

“I should have expected this damn it!” I sat down in defeat. The movie clearly showed them using advanced tech, so creating some kind of genetic lock should have been expected.

I could break the vault down, but it required time and knowledge. Time I had in abundance for the next 2 years, but knowledge on how to break down the genetic lock of the most advanced civilisation in the universe I lacked.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

I sighed and put the test tube containing the blood in a chemical and placed it in a machine I had designed to preserve DNA, created for scenarios such as this. As the preservation process began I sat back and started thinking and revising my plans.

“What should I do Nat?” I watched Nat from my phone who had begun to clean up the house after she had trashed the place a few days ago in her anger.

A lot of my plans laid heavily in my biological upgrade but now that can’t be pushed forward, I could focus fully on my tech upgrades. There was one other biological upgrade I had in mind that I could take advantage of but that required me to use Eldritch Magic and the sling ring.

*Ping* I looked down at my phone to see a message I gladly welcomed at this time. [All leaders of Red Room to meet in 2 days.]

I began to book a ticket to Russia. As the ticket confirmation came in a sad feeling crept into my heart. I had wanted to go there with Nat since it was her mother country. ‘I guess it won’t be possible now.’

I stood up and took the test tube from the container. It was encased in a white solid rectangle surrounding the test tube. It was warm to touch but inside of it was cold enough to preserve all the genes without losing any information.

I didn’t waste any time destroying everything else including the data from the machines and the chemicals before I walked out of the warehouse.

Placing the tube in my bag I placed on a new face and took out a passport matching it. “Time to blow of some steam.” I grinned as I took off.

[2 days later, Russia- 3rd PoV]

*Bang**Bang**Bang**Bang* “Ahhh!” Screams rang out in the corridor as several people in a room cowered in fear as their guards aimed the guns at the door.

“Where is Master's!?” One person in military attire shouted into his phone while pointing his gun at the door.

“General the Task Master has just made it to the building. He will be there in a few minutes.” Hearing the reply back in Russian the general threw his phone down in anger.

“What happene…” Before the fat person beside him could ask the question the sound of guns going off outside stopped.

“Did they get him?” A short man wearing an expensive business suit asked the guards who were at the front.

“What’s the status Widow’s?” The leader of the guard unit called into her earpiece but received no reply.

*Knock**Knock* All the officials jumped hearing the knock while the guards inside the room unlocked their guns.

“Who is there?” The leader called out but received no reply.

“Come on. I didn’t learn Russian yesterday just so I can talk behind a door. I learned Russian so I can trash talk you guys before wiping all of you from the surface of the planet.” All of them held their breath.

“Jack of all trades for what reason are you attacking us? We didn’t take up any contract placed on your family and left you alone.” One of the women wearing a formal suit shouted from the back.

*Bang* The metal door flew off its hinges and smashed into one of the guards smashing her against the wall with the door. If one looked at the door they could see the imprint of a fist on it.

*Squelch**Thud* As the door fell down it revealed a paste of a human being.

*Bang**Bang**Bang**Bang**Bang**Bang**Bang**Bang**Bang**Bang**Bang* Everyone began emptying out their magazines at the man wearing a red t-shirt and black pants.

*Click**Click**Click**Click**Click* All their guns turned out empty as they looked at the man with multiple bullet holes to the point he wasn’t whole anymore.

“Take that fucker!” The business woman sitting at the back spat in front of David’s dead body.

“There is something wrong.” One of the widows stated as she looked at David’s body in worry.

“What do you mean?” The general asked the widow.

“Look at where he is.” The leader of the guards pointed at David as all the other guards began reloading their weapon quickly.

“The fuck!” The general just noticed how David’s was still standing where he initially was even after being pierced with hundreds of bullets. It was as if the momentum from the bullet was completely ignored.

“Smart but too late.” Suddenly the body embedded with holes disappeared from everyone’s eyes.

*Plop**Thud**Plop**Thud* One by one, all the head or chest of the guards began bursting as they slammed into the wall. Within 2 seconds only the officials remained to cause David to appear before them with no bullet wound.

Only the holes in the shirt and pants showed that he was indeed the person they had emptied their magazines at earlier.

“What in hell are you?” The fat official pointed his gun at David.

“I used to hate killing as it made me sick, but I still killed for my needs,” David told them just as all their gun disappeared from their hands.

“What?” They all looked like the gun laid disassembled in front of David.

“However, I don’t feel sick anymore when killing you lot. Do you know why?” David asked as he walked up to the official who kept trembling in fear.

“What do you want?” The general being the only man not shaking in fear asked.

“You want money, I will give you everything I have!” The businesswoman pleaded.

“Every time I kill, I now remember her words from that night. I remember how she held me close to her chest as she spoke into my ears, ‘every time you are forced to kill someone just think it’s for me’.” David suddenly disappeared and appeared with his hand through the businesswoman’s abdomen.

“AHHHH!” She screamed in pain as David withdrew his hands.

Few officials used that chance to run out of the room, however, they suddenly found they were on the floor without legs. "AHHH!" David's palms began emitting steam as the intense heat had begun to evaporate all the water inside the blood on his hand.

“Demon! Get away from me!” The fat man screamed as he wet his pants seeing his screaming associates.

“Please Mr Henswick, we can talk this out. Anything you want, we can provide.” The general spoke in a clear panic, however, this time using David’s proper name earning his attention.

“I want my Nat to smile again, can you give it to me?” David asked the general.

“…” The general looked stunned as he heard that.

“That’s what I thought.” David shook his hands from the blood.

“Is that why you are here? For the Black Widow? For love?” David looked at the general in the eyes quietly.

“I knew it. There was no way she would have fallen for your tricks and not seen through your lies unless both of you really fell in love.” The general chuckled as he stood up in confidence.

“But unfortunately, this place is nothing but a ghost of her past. Do you think she will care if you kill us? Do you think she will welcome you back as a hero because you stopped this facility?” The general asked calmly.

*Sigh* David shook his head. “No, she won’t.” He looked up at the roof.

“How about this, I can grant you diplomatic immunity as an official of Russia? This way you remain a free man and no one will touch you. Then you can…”

David interrupted the general. “Like you said this place is a ghost of her past. A ghost that lingers and haunts her as long as it is active. I want her to live the rest of her life carefree and happily.” Suddenly David disappeared and not long after all the officials, heads began disappearing one by one.

“This is an act of war! Do you realise you could incite…” The general began sprouting out of fear and anger.

“Stalling won’t work anymore. Your only hope, the Task Master can do nothing.” David appeared before the general.

“Uhh…” The general looked down to see an arm through his chest just above his heart.

“Go from this world; ghosts of her past.” David moved back away from the general. *Thud* As the body dropped a figure wearing a skull mask appeared at the doorway.

“I have been waiting for you by listening to them say their bullshit,” David spoke without turning around.

“You have made a big mistake.” *Click* The Task Master quickly threw a ball into the room next to David.

*Beeeeep* A red light appeared on the ball just as the Task Master raised his shield.

*Boom* A small explosion went out pushing Task Master back slightly. He looked into the room engulfed in smoke and fire.

“Next time you attack me…” The eyes peeking through the skull mask widened hearing the voice from the smoke.

“…make sure it’s without fire because fire is my best friend.” David walked out of the smoke and fire as if nothing had happened.

The Task Master quickly got in his defensive position with his sword and shield. “I will give you the honours by not crushing you quickly.” David motioned for the Task Master forward.

Without wasting the chance given Master ran forward and swung his sword only for David to duck and punch his ribs causing the Master to drop his sword. However, using that chance the Master bashed into David’s side with his shield.

*Thud* “Ooff!” David slammed against the wall.

“Good one.” David smiled as the Master ran forward with his shield.

-------------------------------------------

[David PoV]

I didn’t use my true strength at all with him. I had in fact disabled all the HE serum abilities in order to use this opportunity to test out one of the fabled legends of Marvel.

Seeing him run towards me with his shield I got ready. Just as he got close he threw the shield at me.

*Clang* I pushed the shield aside only to see it was a diversion for him to punch me in my neck.

“Uhhh…” I tried stepping back out of reflex as I held my throat, only to realise I was already backed up against the wall.

*Bam* He punched me in my stomach before kicking me in my balls. I didn’t hesitate and activated my regeneration and healing as I went down just as the Task Master slammed my head on the floor.

*Bam**Crack* He didn’t stop as he slammed down on my neck with his boots and broke my spine. ‘A true legend indeed.’ I smiled as my spine healed itself. Without checking he walked away to fetch his shield.

“You know, it really was worth it being a cockroach?” I got up to see his startled look.

“Now then shall we, start round 2?” I smiled at him.

Without wasting a moment Task Master threw his shield at me.

‘Fight and defeat him without HE serum.’ I ordered my rooted potato.

My body twisted to the right avoiding the shield bashing onto my face by millimetres. “Got you!” My body grabbed onto the Task Master’s fist before I punched him in the neck.

“Uhh…” I released his hand and watched him hold his neck struggling to breathe before my leg flew forward and kicked his balls.

*Thud* “Fuck!” He looked at me in shock as he crouched in pain, while I looked down at my bruised leg from having kicked his armoured pants protecting his nuts.

“You are not the only one who can copy fighting styles.” My body went forward and smashed his head down into the floor.

“But I have to say you are superior to me in copying styles.” My leg went down into his neck. *Bam**Crack*

I took control back of my body only to feel the radiating pain from my broken feet.

*Whistle* Activating my HE serum I whistled.

Just as my leg finished healing a black sphere the size of football floated into the room.

*Tear* Ripping the shredded clothes off my body I placed my hand inside the sphere and took out the spare clothes and began changing.

“Now that feels good.” I smiled as I took my phone and watch out and wore them.

I went in front of the Task Master’s body and crouched down. Turning him around I removed his mask as my personal storage flew next to me. “Even though our fight was a short one I enjoyed it.” I smiled as I retrieved a test tube from inside my flying ball of storage.

I looked at the face of the scarred woman, who was put in this state by Nat a few years ago.

Opening the test tube lid, I poured a drop of the liquid on the Task Master’s face. *Chishhh* Her body began rapidly dissolving as the chemical ate away his flesh. Without delay, I repeated the same process for all the officials but left the body of the guards alone.

“It’s a terrible fate, that you all had to face me.” I looked at the empty husk of the suit of Task Master along with the other officials of the Red Room. *Clash*I threw the empty vial of the test tube causing it to shatter as it met the ground.

“But I am thankful for all of you. If it weren’t for you guys I might have never encountered my Nat.” I held out my hand and the black sphere began dissembling and attached itself to my arm. Soon enough it slithered its way to my back and leg.

I turned around and left the room while wiping all security footage of the place.
