Episode 47- Confidence

“Be honoured to shake my hand mortal, David.” He said with a smile as he took my hand to which I just smiled.

“How do you like it so far in Midgard?” I asked him, which earned silence from him soon followed by a melancholy atmosphere.

“Where are we going?” He asked me after a while.

I smiled at him. “To get you something to wear and for Dr Jane to ask you some questions I believe,” I pointed out at his hospital gown then at Jane who was driving while glancing at Thor from her mirror every now and then.

Her face blushed slightly as Thor noticed her due to me pointing it out. She turned her attention back on the road and just drove.

The ride was a quiet one as Thor sat down thinking about something while I looked up all the data I could about the Red Room. I plan to eradicate that place after I am done here. I want every place that haunted her to be off this world before I go back to her.

After that comes Hydra for what they did to Nat followed by the Ancient One. Once all that was done I will go see her.

'Well, that is my plan.' I closed my phone seeing we had arrived at their lab.

I was surprised seeing how perfectly everything was flowing as if it was fixed to the point. Nothing was being changed even with my interference. I knew I could easily change it with how I had interfered in Nat’s and Bruce’s life, but I was wondering why the butterfly effect was not even affecting the fate of this world due to my action.

Jane gave Thor her ex-boyfriends clothes to wear and Thor walked out while showing his perfectly sculpted upper body of an Asgardian.

“Umm, please don’t touch that.” Jane stopped him from messing around with their computer.

“This mortal form has grown weak. I need sustenance.” Thor ordered in his haughty tone to which I smiled. Not 2 seconds later, someone rang the bell.

*Ding Dong* Jane quickly went to get the door.

“Mr David?” A person asked to which earned a look of confusion from Jane.

"Sorry I think you got the wrong..." Before she could finish I walked forward.

"Hi." I smiled and showed him the order I placed on the app. He nodded as he passed me the 10 bags of food while Jane just looked at me in confusion.

Taking the bags, I placed them on the table. “My treat Mr Odinson.” Everyone looked at me in surprise.

“How did you know?” Erik asked me.

“There is very little I don’t know Mr Selvig,” Addressing him by his last name when he hadn't introduced him got him to raise his eyebrows at us.

“I told you my expertise as a consultant lays everywhere. That includes information gathering.” My reply made them all wary of me except Thor.

Motioning my hands towards the banquet I had ordered I grinned, hiding my pain and sorrows behind a smile and false facade. “So, let’s eat now,” Thor didn't need to be told as he dug in.

A few minutes later.

“How is he doing that?” Darcy looked at Thor eating the 17th box of del taco.

"Very high metabolism," I answered for Thor who couldn't be bothered by the question at all.

“How did you get inside that cloud?” Jane asked him the burning question of her to which he just ignored her.

“I must thank you, for giving me such a small and marvellous feast mortal, David.” Thor thanked me in his own way as he threw the empty box on the floor which Erik had to fetch once more in annoyance.

“No problem,” I said as I ate a box of pizza on the side along with Darcy.

"I would love to get either a thank you for the slave work I am doing or you to stop throwing boxes down," Erik muttered as he threw the box in a pile he has been collecting before sitting back down in annoyance.

"You call that small? There was enough to feed a dozen people in that bag." Darcy made a snide remark to which everyone at this point was used to ignoring.

“Do you want to initiate a trade with me Mr Odinson?” I asked him which caught his attention as he ate.

“Speak mortal.” He told me.

“How about I tell you where your hammer is?” I had already plastereded the most professional looking smile just as he stopped eating and looked at me.

“You know where Mjølnir is?” He asked me in excitement while Erik had a confused look.

“I do,” I told him.

“Mjølnir?” Darcy asked in confusion beside me.

“What do you want in return mortal, David?” He asked me.

I smiled as I heard that. “Enough blood of yours to fill this small container,” I said as I showed him a small test tube.

Thor looked at me in confusion as well as apprehension, interestingly that apprehension left his face within moments only to be filled with curiosity and confidence. “Don’t worry I won’t do any sort of sorcery on you or let others do it with your blood. I need it for my study and research.” I assured him, knowing there might be many ways to attack someone through their blood since this world had magic.

This was my approach to taking Asgardian blood without using force against Thor. I could single-handedly wipe the floor with Thor right now with how weak he was and take his blood sample easily, or I could sneakily take it from him. But all of that ways was equal to asking Odin to come and smite me with his army. I rather not have that when I could be so close to ready for anything in this world as long as I waited patiently for 2 years.

After a while, he nodded. “You got something or should I...” He looked far too excited as he grabbed his fork and raised it above his left hand.

“Stop! What are you doing!?” Jane screamed as she held onto his right arm to stop him from stabbing himself.

“Drawing blood for his container,” Thor stated the obvious.

“You don’t need to stab yourself for that.” Jane berated him while giving me a stingy eye.

Digging into my pocket I grabbed the syringe and needle I had prepared for this situation. “She is right Mr Odinson. Allow me.” Walking up to him, I began inserting the small needle onto his arm and drew enough blood on the syringe to fill the test tube.

“Thank you, Mr Odinson.” I transferred the blood to the test tube and kept a tight seal on it before putting it in my pocket.

“Mjølnir is 50 miles west of here,” I told him.

“Thank you, my friend.” He stood up to hugged me in happiness before he hurriedly left.

“Wait!” Jane said as she ran after him in confusion, and I followed them out.

“What are you doing?” Erik asked me as he came out and caught up with me.

“Informing him of what rightfully belongs to him,” I told Erik.

“I don't mean that. I meant who are you? What are you doing here? Are you trying to play a drama with that nut job using Norse myth in order to try and steal our research data?” He asked me looking worried.

“You will understand soon enough,” I said with a smile as I split away from them and went to my room.

A few minutes later I watched the whole town remotely from the hotel I had stayed in last night.

*Screech* A few black cars and SUV stopped in front of the lab just as Jane was talking with Erik, while Thor had walked off.

People got out of the car and started barging into their lab.

“Hey!” Jane, Erik, and Darcy ran towards the Shield that was beginning to take all their equipment’s.

I kept an eye on every person there because they were Shield. They wanted me, not just them the whole world wanted me.

I was the new Kim Kardashian of the secret world of powerful people. I had after all got into the Shield database and could possibly hold countless valuable information which many would be lusting after.

Keeping an eye on them I starting opening my luggage and taking out all the portable pieces of equipment. I started setting up my new temporary lab.

Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Finished with setting up, I grabbed the vial of the test tube containing Thor's blood. "Here we go..." The key to power so massive that it can resist the gravitational pull of a star and tug a ring around it. It was also a key to a new source of powerful magic called the Odin force.

*Beep* "Welp!... Fuck you Murphy's law!" I ran as much test as possible, but each result made me feel down even more.

*Beep*[Human DNA] The only result I got was that of a normal, fit human.

"I should have expected this..." Odin after all managed to even fool a whole civilisation by telling Loki was an Asgardian by changing his looks. To someone like Odin, changing the DNA structures of others temporarily might be an easy feat.

Looks like until he regains his strength, he will be an extremely strong human. 'A pity but I have to work with what I have.' I sighed as I placed the carefully sealed tube of blood in my bag.

"Hmm..." I noticed my phone's light turning on once more from the corner of my eye. Going towards it, I grabbed it. I took my phone to see 100’s of missed call and text. All from 1 person.

Opening the video cam in her house I watched her sit in her bed looking at her phone with black sleepless eyes. Every 10 minute she kept on trying to call me or message me.

"Uhhh..." I felt a pain in my chest. It wasn't physical pain but some kind of pain that transcends physiology as I saw her haggard and hopeless look.

I never liked seeing her sad or hurt and I could never take it. But my time with her had given me a renewed purpose and goal in life. "I will create a world for you, Nat. A world where you don't have to lose anyone you love or lose your own life." I promised as I watched her.

"Hey, David..." I began listening to her voice message while reading her messages.

'I missed her voice a lot.' I realised as I kept listening and reading at the same time. I took the process slowly as I savoured every moment. All of the messages were Natasha simply asking me sweetly where I was and to come back for her. However, I knew that giving her an answer to it was stepping into a trap. A sweet trap that I wanted to fall into, but I won't.

I had a new goal and new purpose in life now and I preferred that to the empty emotionless survive purpose and get strong goal I had. Nothing can change my path towards that goal, not even Nat.

“I am sorry Nat, but I couldn’t bear keeping up this façade of a lie,” I said to no one as I laid back on the bed and read her messages of 'worry and concern'. She wanted to meet with me, but I knew it was a trap. Every single message she was sending me was being monitored by her own willingness by Shield.

She gave priority to her job above all else, and I respected that. I loved her for who she is not for who I want her to be.

I could have asked her to stop working in the Shield to live a normal life with me and she would have done it for me. But that would have been like ripping part of herself away from her. I did not want that.

In the end, I couldn't help but dip my toes into the pool of honey for a bit. [I am sorry. I promise I will come to see you. I don't know when but just wait for me.] I texted her while dusting off all my tracks.

I closed my eyes in tears as I watched her break down as she saw received my message. Something she would never show anyone other than me, and it was the same this time too as only I saw her… weakness. Mine and her only weakness.

I woke up in the morning. “What a shitty day.” I greeted my day with a smile as I watched Nat finally asleep.

Getting ready I observed the whole town to see Shield agents inside the town observing Thor. Grabbing a few things I would be needing for the hungover Erik and for my day here, I walked out without wearing my mask right in front of the Shield Agents' eyes.

It would be troublesome to explain to Thor and his group why I was changing my identity. I needed to create a favourable impression with Thor until he gave me what I wanted. After that, I could care less about my reputation.

Pretending as if I didn't notice those agents, I just walked to Erik's lab while messing with the communication between the agents posted outside, watching Thor, and the temporary base 50 miles of here as I walked around in plain view.

Walking to where I believed Thor and the group was I went inside. Shouting aloud just as I got in. “Good morning everyone,”

“Shush! Not so loud.” Erik held onto his ears while looking at me in annoyance as Jane and Thor were preparing breakfast.

“Seems like Mjølnir did not find you worthy Mr Odinson,” I told him to which he looked slightly disheartened.

“Hey, can you shut up? Why are you so loud in the morning?” Erik asked me in annoyance.

*Sigh* I took the special dose I had brought for Erik out of my pocket before stabbing it in his neck.

“Ouch! What are you doing? What the hell is that?” He pointed at the syringe in anger and worry as I held it in my hand.

“Curing you of your hangover,” I told him to which he looked at me strangely before his eye suddenly cleared.

“Woah! What the hell is that stuff?” He asked as he looked at himself in amazement.

“A cure I developed for hangover whenever my girlfriend had too much to drink,” I told him with a smile while the girls looked at me in shock.

“You keep surprising me mortal, David,” Thor stated.

I simply shrugged with a smile. “I was looking into your blood last night, running some test and concluded that you really are human now. Extremely strong but still a normal human.” I told him to which he nodded gloomily.

“What do you mean normal human?” Erik asked.

“If my guess is correct you will understand within 1 hour,” I told him with a smile.

I turned my attention back to Thor who was cooking with Jane. “On the bright side, I can tell you how to regain back your strength.” Thor's back froze hearing me. Turning towards me with a curious look he examined me for a few moments.

After a while, he shook his head. “There is no need. I do not need it anymore my friend. I have accepted my life here and my punishment.” He told me to which I simply nodded.

"Care if I join you for breakfast then?" Thor looked at Jane who shrugged her shoulders.

"Sure." Jane and Thor had to make another serving of breakfast for me as well. As for me, I was busy sending a message of 'no interference, just keep watch' from Coulson to the team who asked him whether to engage me or not.

"Hey, you got any more of those supplies?" Erik asked me excitedly standing beside him Darcy. Ignoring them I focused back on my task at hand.

"Not with me at this moment sorry." Proceeding to ignore them I carried on.

"Breakfast." I looked up to see the mighty Thor serving breakfast to the table. I held in my laughter and just enjoyed breakfast while Jane and Erik discussed their theories.

*Knock**Knock* "Found you!" We all turned to see 4 people dressed in medieval clothes waving at us from the door outside.

*Crash**Crash* Erik and Darcy dropped their cups in shock while Jane followed suit.

"My friends!" Thor ran up to them with a smile and greeted them as I just sat there like a spectator. I had no intention of doing anything now as I had a simple objective here.

“I don’t believe it!” Erik stated in shock while I just chuckled.

The rest was the same melodrama that occurred just like the movie. 'Come on, there should be at least a minute change.' I watched and listened to each dialogue to see it was the same. No change in script or dialogue.

After a while, Sif told Thor that his father was still alive and the situation in Asgard.

Thor quickly looked at me hopefully. 'Yes, a change in the fate of the world.' I sighed inside my mind in relief. If Thor hadn't looked at me when he heard the situation of the Asgard, I would have no idea how to battle against the stupid fate that seemed to be stuck in stone so far.

“A trade I can initiate to give you a clue as to how to regain your power Mr Odinson,” I offered Thor with a smile, noticing his desperation at wanting to regain his powers.

“Please do speak,” Thor requested me in a partial hurry while the 4 Asgardians looked at me strangely.

“Same as yesterday but with a small change. I seek enough of your blood to fill this container after you regain your power for the same purpose as last time.” I told him as I showed him the test tube much to the furious look of his friends.

Before they could say anything Thor spoke up. “I agree,” Thor's response shocked them.

“No!”

“Thor wait!”

“What!

“…” Sif stared at me silently while the other 4 shouted.

I didn't wait to listen to what they had to say as I began. “An enchantment has been placed on Mjølnir by your father. It goes like this. Whosoever holds your hammer, has to be worthy. 'He who is worthy shall possess the power of Thor.'" They all looked at me in astonishment.

"That is the enchantment on it. To regain your power Mr Odinson all you have to do is become worthy of it again.” I smiled as I looked at his thinking face.

"How do you know that mortal? You are just from Midgard." Sif pointed out but I simply smiled.

"I am a consultant whose expertise lays everywhere. Grant me the price I ask of you and I will give you anything and everything you want." I replied to her with my trademark motto. 'I sound a lot like the devil himself.' I thought to myself.

Before Sif could say anything Thor interrupted her. “But how do I become worthy?” He asked me with his confused expression.

“What caused your father to strip away your power?” I asked him.

“My act of declaring war against our enemies.” He said with disappointment.

“No,” I said as I shook my head which caused him to look at me curiously.

“It was your arrogance, Mr Odinson.” This caused the others to be angry at me.

*Shing* The others began drawing their weapons as Erik, Darcy and Jane moved back. “How dare you mortal, speak to Son of Odin…” Sif started.

“Friends, please. Let him speak.” Thor told them as he got in front of them.

“But…” Fandral looked at me in anger.

“Just let him. He is telling the truth.” Thor stated.

“Congratulations Mr Odinson, you are partially on your way to regain your power. The first step was to see what you have become from your drunken days of power and glory.” I told him with a smile.

“I believe what your father wanted from you was to learn and become humbler and more selfless from this punishment. Once you do, I believe you will become worthy to wield Mjølnir and regain the power of Thor.” I told him to which he was about to nod when a sudden noise was heard.

*Boom* Everyone turned their attention outside and began to go out to see a massive cloud of dust appearing. Using that chance I quickly left the area.

My whole future relied on the Chitauri invasion to happen. The key factor to that invasion was Loki who believed Earth was defenceless against the Chitauri. If he saw me wreaking havoc on the Destroyer, his view of Earth might change to cause him to not even bring the Chitauri here fearing me. I can’t let that happen, so for that, I have to stay out of this battle and out of Loki’s eyes for now.

*Boom* I took off to the Bifrost Bridge's location with my enhanced speed. Arriving by the entrance to the Bifrost bridge I sat down and simply waited while keeping an eye on the battle in the town.

After a few minutes, Thor appeared with Jane. “Welcome, Mr Odinson. I see you have regained your power.” I said with a smile on his surprised face.

“See I told you he would survive." Thor looked at Jane with a confident smile.

"Thank you for worrying about me Dr Jane, but I don't need it." I was impressed with Thor's intuition as I looked at him.

"What made you think I would survive?" I asked him only for him to point behind me. Turning around I noticed the cracked ground from where I had stopped earlier.

"Make sure to control your strength when leaping my friend." He advised me.

'Well darn, I am impressed.' I chuckled seeing that.

"Thank you, my friend.” Thor walked up to me before hugging me. I just noticed it now but he had upgraded my status from mortal to friend. 'Wow looks like I am on a spree to making friends.'

“Mr Odinson let me warn you. Do not waste time when you get to Asgard. Be ready and prepared for a fight. Your brother will be waiting for you planning something nefarious.” I warned him to which he nodded in thanks.

"I will." He looked up with a look of worry.

“Now as per our deal,” I said as I took out my syringe to which he offered me his hand. I drew a bit of his blood and kept it in my test tube.

"You do realise why I am taking your blood right?" I asked to which he nodded with a smile.

"Aren't you worried then?" I asked him curiously.

"Not at all mortal David." He laughed hearing that.

"Why?" Instead of replying he just grinned at me.

"I wish you all the best mortal David. If you are successful maybe we can have a duel." I laughed hearing that.

“Thank you. I hope you carry on protecting Midgard from the dangers it presents like you always have.” I told him as I quickly disappeared from his eyes while not mentioning anything about the duel. I had better things to do than fighting him.

Arriving back in my room a few minutes later, I began to pack my luggage getting ready to leave. Finished with everything I went and opened the door.

*Click* The black barrel of a gun pointed at my head. “You have a lot of explaining to do.”
