Our daughter was perfectly healthy. Her vital scans showed nothing abnormal. I checked her DNA for anything abnormal to see she was perfectly human.
I knew my 3rd gift the Same potato would forbid any of my genes or powers from being inherited by anyone, including my own kids. This had made me think about Nat’s side of things when I had chosen to give her the toned-down serum. Hence, the reason I had placed a genetic lock on her to stop her powers from being transmitted to our kids.
‘Looks like our children won’t be burdened by powers.’ I sighed in relief as I watched my daughter asleep.
I was no optimist. I knew people could be corrupted and can walk in the wrong path including my children. Just being my children didn't exclude them from being humans who can err and be corrupted. Nat and my life were prime examples of this.
Natasha had already done her fair share of mistakes and so have I from using people for power and money. It took Natasha her best friend Clint Barton to help her realise her mistakes while it took me, Natasha and Bruce, to realise my mistakes.
I didn’t want to find out that one day my children had used their power to massacre people just because they were drunk on power.
If that happened, I would probably have to hurt them to stop them. As a father, it was already unbearable for me to hurt my little daughter before me, let alone in the future. So, I would rather avoid such an outcome where I would hurt my kids or even possibly kill them, and the only way to do that was by not giving them any superpowers at all.
Nat and I will teach them whatever they want to know, whether it be acting, painting, dancing, singing, riding cycles or whatever, but we will never do it for them or make it easier for them with superpowers.
They would grow as normal humans and they can acquire any superpowers they want through their own capabilities or through lucky encounters. Till then I will protect them like I protect my family from everything.
Call me a manipulative asshole or whatever, but I could still see Nat mulling over her bloody past every now and then. That is something I don’t want my kids to go through one day when they mature and see the bloody mess, they caused with their newfound power controlling their heads.
I took our daughter and gently teleported Natasha to our bedroom back home. She woke up from the movement and started feeding our daughter.
I called my parents on their landline. “Mum?” I whispered.
“Why are you whispering?” Mum asked me.
“Nat gave birth. We have a daughter.” I soon heard shouts of excitement and joy before mum shouted back to me.
“We will be there in few minutes.” True to their words they arrived in 10 minutes.
I went down to open the door before they got out of their car. “Why didn’t you call us during labour?” Mum asked me.
“Was kind of busy and forgot about it,” I whispered and motioned them to come in.
“Are they sleeping?” My dad whispered as he got into which I nodded and pointed up.
As it was a weekday Jack was still in school. My bots began their sanitising to make sure my parents won't infect my daughter or anything.
I locked the door, and we went upstairs.
Before I opened the door, I knocked on it which earned me a weird look from my parents.
As I opened the door, I saw that Natasha was wide awake and looking at us with a smile with our daughter beside her sleeping.
“Why did you knock and wake Nat up?” My mum spoke in a low voice of anger as she pointed at Nat.
“Being polite and force of habit,” I stated back. They didn’t need to know I often had a gun pointed at my head when I entered without knocking on the door for the past few months.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
Only 2 people in that room knew if I had not knocked, I would have had few bullets through my chest right now.
“Aww! She is so lovely like an angel!” My mum stated as soon as she saw our daughter but didn’t approach her.
“Why are you staying back?” I asked dad.
“Newborn.” My dad pointed to our daughter.
“Germs and infection.” He then pointed to himself and mum.
“Don’t worry I had both of you sanitised downstairs,” I informed him.
“When did you… Never mind the wrong question.” Mum said as she went forward beside her granddaughter with my dad.
I texted Jack at this time to inform him to come by our house after school as mum and dad were here.
“Have you decided her name?” Dad asked me.
“Yeah, Sasha,” Natasha told my dad.
“Sasha Romanoff,” I stated proudly earning a sneaky smile from Nat, causing me to smile back at her without drawing the attention of my parents.
Sasha and Natasha were both Russian and sounded similar.
I hardly called Nat by Natasha anymore, since we got married. I chose the name our daughter, Sasha, to let Nat remember our wonderful beginnings together.
It was a code word that would only trigger a memory for the both of us, and us alone from now on, whenever someone spoke the name of our daughter. A happy memory for us to relish for the rest of our life.
I went downstairs to prepare lunch. "Where are you going?" Dad asked as he joined me.
"Lunch. Did you have any?" I asked him.
"That's good because we were about to make lunch when you called us." I smiled as we walked into the kitchen and began cooking.
Finished with cooking, we bought the lunch upstairs for both mum's only to hear my mum giving pieces of advice to Nat on taking care of Sasha.
"To be honest, I am kind of helpless because David took care of himself and it pretty much felt like we were the ones taken cared of with him around." Mum pointed at me.
"What about Jack?" I asked mum causing dad to roll his eyes at me.
"He was the polar opposite of you. Always crying, and wanting to be taken care of..." We chatted for a while until my parents went back home to get some clothes for the next few days while they stayed with us to help us.
Jack arrived after school a few hours later, not even aware of the fact that he was an uncle. "David, why did you ask me to drop by?" Jack asked as he walked up with me.
“Nothing much just wanted to introduce you to someone,” I told him before I opened the door.
“Holy crap! I am an uncle!” He shouted in excitement which woke Sasha up.
"WAHHHHH!" Mum and dad glared at him for swearing and waking Sasha who we barely had managed to put to sleep after hours of effort.
"Uhh... sorry." He apologised as he looked between Nat and me.
“It’s ok,” I told him and pushed him forward to his crying niece. "It's your turn to suffer while we relax." We all chuckled as he winced from the ear-piercing shriek of our daughter.
'God can these beautiful angels scream like monsters.' As he played with his niece I went down to prepare a massive feast for everyone.
"Can someone hold her now?" Jack pleaded as we all ate.
"You finished eating first so, you hold her until one of us finished," Nat told him as she watched Jack cooing our crying child.
"Can you and sit at the sofa all the way down there?" I pointed at the sofa by the end of the hall. "We can't hear ourselves talking."
My brother's eyebrows twitched hearing this. "How about no? Hurry up and take responsibility for the siren you guys created." He stated as he sat with us holding Sasha, making us laugh as Nat took Sasha from his hand.
After supper, everyone dispersed to their rooms while I gently moved Sasha to her crib.
I climbed back to bed and Natasha once more leaned her back on my chest. I wrapped my arms around her as we watched our daughter sleep.
“She is beautiful,” Natasha said in tears.
“Yeah, she is mesmerising,” I stated in tears as well. “Thank you for bringing her to the world.” I kissed Natasha on the cheek.
“Thank you for caring and loving me.” She brought my arms around her tightly and turned around to kiss me.
We kept kissing for a while before suddenly we were woken up from our moment by Sasha’s crying. "WAHHH!" We both chuckled and I stood up to get Sasha.
"She is a light sleeper like her mummy." I pointed out.
"More like got cat ears like her dad." She rebutted as I tried to coo her back to sleep.
I tried calming her, but she would not stop crying. "Why isn't she stopping?" I asked Nat in confusion.
Natasha stretched out her arms to me with her smile and I reluctantly passed Sasha to her, while pouting. Within a moment Sasha was quiet in her arms.
I pouted seeing this. All my knowledge, power, and I could not stop the crying of my daughter. This proved to me power and knowledge were not absolute. Sometimes a little bit of warmth and love was all that was needed where everything else failed.
"I call hacks on whatever you are doing, to make her stop crying instantly," I spoke quietly as I pointed at Nat and our daughter who was magically falling asleep the moment she felt Nat.
Annoyed by my statement she whispered back. "I call hacks on your existence. You need to be fixed by the developers."
Let's just say that pregnancy was a time to try out all sorts of things like games, especially a few awesome games made by me, for us.
I knelt before Natasha and our daughter and watched her innocent sleeping face with a smile.
As our daughter finally went to sleep, I took her from Natasha and placed her back in her crib. Needless to say, we didn’t sleep the entire night as we were constantly cleaning or feeding her.
I could have been perfectly fine if I used my serum, but I wanted to experience what it was like to raise a child normally just as did Natasha.
