Ch 78: Severing the Chains

It was chaotic. Wolves being thrown this way and that before more rose from their corpses. Og'drimun attacking anyone who tried to interfere with his fight against the smiling man. Sentenza trying to kill Og'drimun for the bullet. All with the smiling man slipping around and nearly killing someone with each attack.

"Dang it, if I ever get my hands on that demon," panted Lulu as she fended off a wolf with a staff. "I'll wring his neck!"

Trizel sneered as he easily threw wolf after wolf away and into others. "Ugh, there is no end to these beasts!"

"You want to die so badly?" Og'drimun snarled as he sent his fist towards Sentenza. "Then I shall grant your wish!"

His fist shattered the ground beneath it, but Sentenza had leaped back with plenty of time as he continued to fire at the demon.

"I should've known you'd be more trouble than your worth," Sentenza sighed coldly.

"Oh how delicious," the smiling man cooed. "Your fighting is so sweet. I only wish you would have done this sooner, then I wouldn't have had to come here to clean up for you." He grabbed Og'drimun's ankle and lifted him into the air before he slammed him down onto the ground.

Og'drimun had gotten much smaller. He was barely eighteen feet tall now. And, as he shrunk so too did the area free of the mist.

Then, the loud crack of thunder rang out from above them. A purple crack split the sky, and slowly spread open to reveal a black mist that leaked out from inside like dry ice in a cup of soda. Out from the blackness, Ted fell. After his body passed through the black, the hole shuddered and closed back up before it disappeared entirely.

It took a while for Ted's eyes to adjust to the dull lighting outside. But, it didn't take long for him to realize he was falling. Immediately he felt like his stomach had started to do backflips, and his mind raced in panic as he tried to quickly put together where he was.

Bro! Where have you been? Everyone's been like crazy violent man. Before he could think too hard, Death appeared behind him and slapped him on his back.

Ted opened his mouth to speak, but words failed him as he rapidly approached the ground below.

"Tttrrrriiizzzeeelll! Iiiiiitttt'ssss Tttteeeeddd!" Bakade called out as she kept a tight grip on Sid and Narissa.

Trizel turned his eyes towards the sky, then let out a wince as a wolf bit onto his forearm. He grabbed the top of its jaw and pulled it off of his arm. As soon as he was free, he grabbed the bottom of its jaw with his other hand and with a grunt ripped it in two. He threw the two pieces away and turned back towards Ted and Death. "Lulu, we have got to get to Ted."

"You think I haven't been trying to get closer?" Lulu said as she beat down a pair of wolves with a pair of sticks.

Trizel turned towards the hollow king. "Throw me."

The emaciated man was easily tearing through the wolves, their numbers just wouldn't end. He turned his head towards Trizel and let out a low growl.

"Pppllleeeaasssseee?"

At Bakade's word, the hollow king closed his mouth and nodded. He stabbed his broken sword through a wolf and into the ground then held out both of his hands towards Trizel as he widened his stance.

"What are you...whaaaa!" Lulu cried out as Trizel grabbed her by the scruff of her shirt and ran over towards the hollow king.

Trizel grabbed the hollow king's arm by the forearm, and he did the same. The hollow king grabbed onto Trizel's arm with his other hand as well and began to spin around. After a few rotations he let Trizel and Lulu loose.

They soared into the air as the hollow king ripped his sword free and continued to fight. Lulu dropped one of her sticks as she clung to Trizel for dear life. The giant only stared forward with a fiery determination burning in his eyes.

Finally, Ted regained his voice as he asked, "What's going on?"

Oh, basic stuff. Og'drimun's mad with power, Sentenza is trying to kill him, that weird shadowy guy is being really violent, a swarm of demonic wolves keep coming in an endless wave. Death shrugged. A classic Tuesday, really.

Ted opened his mouth to argue but stopped himself. Maybe this was a bit much, but he shouldn't be so surprised. Not while he was in some world filled with powerful beings from different universes or something like that. "Alright, well do you have a way to keep me from going splat when this fall ends? Maybe you could take me with you when you reappear behind someone less airborne?"

Death shook his head. Doesn't work that way. Can't take someone alive with me. Probably something about being in charge of death and not life.

"But have you tried before?"

I...hmm.

Death disappeared, and then reappeared behind Ted again as he shook his head. Sorry bro. No good. Though, I think Trizel kicked me when I showed up.

"Worth a shot, I'd..." Ted was interrupted as Lulu crashed into him.

Trizel and Lulu's momentum had slowed down. So, Trizel spun her around and tried to hurl her forward. As he did, Death had appeared behind him, and gave him something to push off of and actually increase her momentum.

Sentenza glanced up as the series of people were flying over the battlefield. His eyes caught onto Ted and he grit his teeth. "Idiot," he muttered under his breath. He turned towards Og'drimun and called out, "Grab the boss! I'll hold this guy off and we can get back to our dance when you're finished."

"You would dare ord..." Og'drimun stopped mid-sentence as he saw Ted falling. "Fine, but only because without him we'd never get any halfway decent booze around here."

"It's almost cute that you think I'll just let you..." the smiling man was interrupted as Sentenza sent a bullet from his magical gun into him.

He recovered quickly, but it was enough to let Og'drimun's arms on his back to twist into wings and have him fly away.

"I can never get a read on you," the smiling man chuckled as he focused his attention on Sentenza. "So selfish, and yet risking so much for a child?"

Sentenza stared down the smiling man but didn't offer a response. He just held his two pistols at the ready.

Og'drimun seemed to be shrinking quicker every second. When he grabbed Ted and Lulu, he was barely bigger than them. He quickly slowed down their descent, but shrunk more and more, until he had returned to his old self, and the wolves all faded from the battlefield as mist encompassed everything yet again.

They were still airborne when Og'drimun lost his strength, but Lulu slammed her stick into the ground just before they hit it, and sort of pole vaulted them to the side where they crashed into the ground with a strange group tumble. Og'drimun looked exhausted, and Lulu was clearly on the last of her energy as well.

"Aaaaarreee yyyoouuu ooookkaaaayyy?" Bakade appeared from the mist holding Sid and Narissa as she knelt down near the three of them.

Lulu and Ted nodded as they picked themselves up, while Og'drimun lied on the ground. Ted bent over and picked him up, but as he did, a single bullet fell out of some odd fleshy pocket he had.

"No..." Og'drimun mumbled, sounding almost as if he was sleep talking. "Need it...for the plan...clear...some mist...need...need..." He had been stretched to the limit, and was barely staying conscious.

Ted picked up the bullet and it felt like a jolt of electricity passed through his body. A glimpse of a red circle seared into his brain, but he managed to hold onto it.

"Sssseeennnttteeennzzaaa!" Bakade cried out as she handed Sid and Narissa off to Ted before grabbing the bullet.

"Wait, what's...and she's gone," sighed Ted as Bakade dashed off into the mist.

Sentenza spit in the smiling man's face. That only made him smile broader as he reached up to touch the spit on his face. "It's not often I meet someone like you. Too bad you turned out to be just another disappointment. You might have actually had some use. Oh well. No reason to keep broken toys around after all, right?"

The smiling man was standing over Sentenza. The cowboy was on his knees with his right arm hanging limply at his side with his hat nowhere in sight. blood was dripping from his head as the smiling man held onto his left hand that still gripped his magical gun. Sentenza let out a quiet grunt as the smiling man squeezed down harder on his hand.

"No one's going to save you this time. Accept your place as sacrifice to..."

BANG!

Bakade let out a cry of pain as a flash of bright light erupted around her pistol and burned her hand. Smoke rose up from where her pistol had been. a small divot was in the smiling man's back, but he turned from Sentenza and towards her. He glanced down at his back over his shoulder, and then looked up at the horned monster.

"Ha...hahaha...hahahahahahahaha!" he laughed like a madman as he kept his grip tight on Sentenza. "Was that supposed to stop me? How pathetic. I didn't even..."

Suddenly he stopped, and his smile turned to a frown as he looked down at his chest. Five red dots burned through his skin as smoke poured from them. He choked and stumbled back from Sentenza as the dots began to connect to each other. One, two three, four, five. The lines connected the dots into a pentagram as a circle encompassed them.

"Nice try, but..." he started to speak again, but stopped as a chunk of his chest fell forward and onto the ground. It looked like a chunk of red hot coal, and was soon followed by another chunk, and then another.

The smiling man looked back up at Bakade, and then smiled manically as he let out a laugh that made him sound even more mad than he looked. " 'Receive what cheer you may. The night is long that never finds the day.' Bemoan your fate, for your mistake here has freed me from mine! The lives of you insects will no longer be my concern." He raised his hand up with a mad grin on his face as a piercing red eye seemed to shine from the shadow over his face. Then, with a quick twist of his arm, he swung his hand across his throat.

With a wet SCHLACK! his head flew off of his shoulders and spun a few feet behind him before bouncing onto the ground and coming to a stop. All the while he never flinched, and his massive grin stayed plastered across his face with his glowing, red eye leaving a small trail almost like a laser. His body slumped to the ground as more and more chunks fell off of it. In the space of a blink, his head was gone. Disappeared into the ether.

Slowly, the mist began to dissipate. Things got clearer and clearer as they stood in the aftermath of the fight.

When it was almost clear, Death, seemingly without any awareness of how poorly timed this was, cried out, Tada! I know the outfits are missing, but just imagine how great this will be! WHOOO!!!! The best location for the best party ever!
