Ch 177: Lying Just Beneath the Surface

Nugget pressed her foot against the wolf's nose as he flew into the air after her with his mouth wide open. Her leg shook under the pressure as she managed to keep just out of his reach.

Sparks erupted in the distance as the wolf's teeth flashed in the light. His eyes stared down at the chicken that refused to be eaten.

But he wasn't able to stare long as Nugget spun up over his head. Right behind her was the glowing green dagger as it traced circles in the air. The wolf closed its maw around the weapon while still in the air.

Nugget was still over his back as fresh sparks of electricity danced across the blade's edge.

"Fool! Leave that creature be and defend me!"

Soon after the voice rang out, the wolf landed on the ground. More sparks erupted into the sky in the distance, but the wolf's eyes focused on Nugget who was still floating in the air.

The wolf's mechanical parts glowed red as electricity arced over his body. Reluctantly, he turned his gaze away from the hen.

Bakade shredded through the metal of a pylon. It was nothing more than the bare bones of a metal tower and proved no problem to her vicious claws.

There were four large metal spires into the sky. Between them in a circle, were dozens of smaller ones that all had electricity arc from their tips between each other.

In the center of the circle was a metal oval. It looked like a pill that had been spray painted metal, but it was big enough that Bakade could have lied down on top of it no problem.

One of the Pylons had been destroyed so much by Bakade that it was tilting to the side and had nearly fallen down away from the center of the circle.

Bakade lifted her claw into the air and twisted her body to strike again. But then her body twitched just slightly.

She brought her claw down as quickly as she could but missed the metal tower entirely. Instead, her hand sped its way to the floor itself. She pressed it against the ground and used it to help her move to the side as she jumped with her legs.

A moment later, the giant wolf landed with its mechanical paw pushing down on the ground where she had been.

The ground around the pylon she had been attacking cracked and splintered which caused the pylon to come crashing down.

Red and electricity flew across the wolf.

"Be more careful you fool!"

The wolf snarled, but instead of looking towards Bakade, he looked in at the center of the circle. HIs fury seemed to shift from the two girls to something else, even if just for a brief moment.
