Chapter 91 Tales of War Part 3

Chapter 91 Tales of War Part 3

----------------------------------------

Today, we will make a determined ambush as the humans scout the forest. Lily gathered her army of a thousand troops and set it up inside the forest. When humans investigated the woods, we showed ourselves and surrounded them.

"Beast! Quit scurrying around!" The curse of those soldiers was heard across the jungle, but we were unfazed. Well, most of us weren't. I could still hear some tailfolk curse them back in anger. Even though we were on our home turf, the battle was not progressing well.

"Shut up and obediently become our slaves! Beast!" An enemy soldier slashed at us, but Lily ducked and stabbed him in the neck. Blood spewed out from her carotid artery, and he lay down on the ground, unmoving. She ran to another group with troubles and did the same.

I saw arrows occasionally fly out from nowhere and hit a soldier in the neck. Lhorne was doing his job really well. He accurately aimed at the gaps in their armor. Mattheus was leading a group of tailfolk further south. Unlike Lily, he could not afford to run around, or he might be accidentally attacked. Nora's level was not that high, so she led a group of a hundred and held their own at the northern flank.

Lily was rushing through the battlefield and found another fellow tailfolk having a problem with a knight wearing heavy armor. He was swinging a giant axe like a stick. It was scary. However, Lily was able to attack him from his blind spot.

"Got you!" The soldier wearing heavy armor blocked Lily's attack. His moves reminded me of Silvester. He was also able to stop an attack from a blind spot as if he had eyes on his back.

"I see. So you are the rumored villain who killed Silvester? I never thought he was killed by some beasts. He must have gotten rusty! Hahahaa!" He laughed like a mad ogre.

"Who are you?" Lily asked, and I scanned him immediately. He seemed strong because not only did he block Lily's attack, but he also countered like it was nothing.

"My name is Songur. The knight commander of Verusta!"

"Lily, Lord of Edenthal."

"Huh! Beast should not become Lords!" He mocked us. His swing was large, but the power was unimaginable. Between his slashes, I cast another fireball and directed her so she would not get tripped when dodging and also told her where to retreat.

It has been a long time since I was doing a serious battle with Lily. When the axe came down, I asked her to dodge to the left because if she swerved to the right, we would be cornered by his henchmen. My support fire also helped blind him, so Lily could counter, but no matter what we did, he didn't seem to take any damage. It was so vexing.

"His wounds are healing rapidly," Lily commented after seeing the slash wound on the gap of his shoulder armor closed.

"We would not get anywhere at this rate. Unless Songur obediently gave us his neck, we would not win against him. I also could not fire large spells because otherwise, we would burn down the forest." I whispered to her.

Lily was suddenly in a pinch. The axe wielder was fast and powerful. She could maintain the stalemate, but that's precisely what Songur wanted. His soldiers were more proficient than ours, and we were losing ground bit by bit. If only we could surround him with Lhorne, Mattheus, and Nora, we could win, but there was no chance of doing that on this kind of battlefield.

"Prepare to retreat!" Lily shouted.

"No, you don't! Chase those beasts!" Songur shouted back. I cast several fire arrows at the chasing soldiers.

"Shiro! If this goes on, our soldiers will rout!" She almost half screamed by now. This was a battlefield; even though she was strong, she was just a single girl. Her soldiers were undertrained and underequipped. The enemy was better equipped, and their commander was also talented to rival her in a duel. The chances are stacked against us. She didn't know how to direct war, and It was her decision that killed her comrades, and now, she panicked as she was going to lose her first war with her home as collateral. Her soldiers screamed as fear engulfed their first battle against humans. They didn't flee, but they are starting to get pushed back.

As our soldiers started to rout, a horn sounded, and a multitude of arrows flew by. That could not be from Lhorne as tens or even hundreds of arrows pinpointed at the soldiers. The battlefield was turned around in an instant.

"What?" Songur was puzzled as elven warriors started to pour in one after another. He quickly rallied his troops, but they didn't stand a chance in the forest. The elves fired from a distance, and the ones who got close were few and quickly surrounded by our tailfolk.

Songur didn't give up assaulting us. He knew he could not outrun our troops in his heavy getup, and if he were to abandon everything, he would lose his job. That was a fate worse than death in the human country, so he kept charging at Lily.

"Need help?" Lord Edelweiss and Alistar came out in the open. She was wearing a green dress fitting for the forest theme, while Alistar wore a complete set of armor that covered his entire body except for his helmet, which he was carrying in his right hand with a shield on his back and a sword on his other hand.

"Elves! Your head will be mine!" Songur quickly aimed his axe at Edelweiss. He dashed so quickly that Lily had no chance to chase him.

"Die!!" he swung his axe down.

"Edelweiss!" Lily shouted

BANG!!

Alistar stepped before Edelweiss and caught Songur's axe with his right hand. His gauntlets grate against Songur's axe, but he was unflinching. Alistar then threw Songur's body back into where Lily was.

Both Songur and Lily were dazed by his strength.
