Chapter 19: Tail's money

Chapter 19

----------------------------------------

"50 magic stones per week, please," Lily said.

"Oh, how diligent. Please don't overwork yourselves, okay." Edelweiss smiled.

"With this, our magic corps and tools mana supply will be secured. We can utilize Lord Edelweiss's mana for something more important." Wharne satisfied.

"When will I start working?" Lily said.

"I will go to Regoia, then we will send a caravan to this village. Please don't overwork yourselves, okay. You are just level 15, after all." EdelWeiss then got on the carriage. "I will entrust this village once again to you, Wharne."

"Yes, Lord Edelweiss. May the harmony of life always be with you."

"Thank you very much. I will tell Mister Wharnebald if I am tired." we waved goodbye to Edelweiss's carriage.

"fifty feystones of that size would mean about a thousand gold. I shall pay you half, and we will give you the other half when you are done! Lhorne, please guide her." Wharne said.

With that money, we bought food and tools for our village. We then headed to our spot where Mattheus was waiting. We left them for an entire day, so they are famished.

"Hm… Lily, you are technically their leader. I think you need to ask AMttheus and co what they will do for tomorrow. We are going to split the workload. Somebody will specialize in building a house, somebody will specialize in farming, etc. It's called management work." I advised her while remembering a game where you need to manage a colony of several humans.

In those games, they can make anything without tools. But we have the advantage of income from feystones, so we can buy our utensils. Now that we have tools, we need to till the land, cut some trees to make houses, and possibly purchase chickens or other animals.

" Well, who can do farming?" Mattheus asked. Nobody raised their hands.

"What about construction work?" Mattheus asked again.

"I can do it. But where do we buy the resources? I work as a laborer to build some mansions for nobles. We need to buy timbers, glass panes, floor tiles, roof tiles, bricks…" Patrick said

"We ain't gonna build mansion dumbass. Made them all from wood! We need to cut trees around here. Does anybody know carpentry?"

"My neighbor was a carpenter. I have seen him work. I can't promise I can do as well as him, though." Kane said. He is another one of our bandit groups. He didn't have experience, but he is the best we've got. Beggars can't be choosers.

"We have no farmers?" Lily asked while shocked. It seemed she was under the impression that everybody knew to farm since we were going to build a farmer village,

"We have five, but they are on the other side…." Mattheus replied. "We will suffer without those guys. One can do arithmetics and writing, one can raise cows, two can raise chickens, and one is tailors. The rest of us only did odd jobs as laborers or militia. Jack can do arithmetics and writing, so we can cross Brian, the ruined merchant. But we still need at least those five farmers…." Mattheus said grimly.

Whoa. That is a complete set of skills right there. We need to pick those guys, no matter the cost. I should persuade Lhorne to leave with us for a while to grab those guys.

"We have a full set of skills here. I wonder how they ended up as bandits." I muttered. Lily asked Mattheus, only for him to explain that either their business went bankrupt, The lords did heavy taxation, or they went into debt. These people were picked from the slums, so even though they have experience, we should not be too trusting of their skills.

Morning came, and Lhorne grumbled again about me living in this desolate plains. He was reasonably relaxed now since we had proved that Mattheus and his company could be trusted. But I can't keep this up forever. I need to stay at the inn when we are doing our mana-replenishing jobs.

"Lhorne, have the feystones arrived?" Lily asked about our job

"No. It will arrive tomorrow at the earliest. Lord Edelweiss has sent an express letter, so it should arrive yesterday. But the preparation and the carriage would take a day. It would change if they used Raksha bird, but it was expensive." At this moment, I missed the game feature called fast travel and inventory.

"What are we going to do for today?"

"How about we strolled around in the forest? Lord Edelweiss asked me to accompany you to level up. You may not hunt near human borders, but anywhere else is fine. We need those monsters as a buffer for humans…."

"Um… Lhorne. Can I ask you to do something?" Lily asked while fidgeting

"Yes?"

Lily then told us about our circumstances. From the very beginning, when she met Mattheus. About the other group, when Jack's father betrayed us and when we met Lhorne. We then focused on the group we left off. Lily asked him to form a team with Mattheus and Nora to pick those guys and become slaves in this branch frontier village.

"Hmm… I see. Okay then, I will tell Mister Wharne that we will hunt outside the village. But I must come with you. You can be trusted, right?" He glared at Mattheus.

"Yes, sir. I have no attachments to human nobles anymore. I would kill them myself without your order if I met with them!" Mattheus declared. He emphasized the human noble to separate the hatred of the elves from just the nobles of the human empire.

"Okay. We leave in two hours." Lhorne sighed as he went to the village chief's house.

We then left the frontier village to pick up our comrades.
