Chapter 60
----------------------------------------
The next day we had a swordsmanship lesson. The lesson was merged with swordsmanship classes, and we were taught how to command. This command lesson was also covered in Synctail academy; Lily was no exception. Most classes preferred to talk among themselves instead of listening to the teachers. Weirdly, the teachers were fine with it. They didn't reprimand or scold them.
Only Lily took the lesson seriously. The others preferred to take their retainers and order them around, just like playing leaders during wars. It was like child's play compared to fourth-grade swordsmanship. Lily looked at them, baffled. After I looked more closely, barely half of the lord's curriculum students attended the lesson.
"Alith, why are the other students not taking the lessons seriously?"
"Well, I am not sure." Alith was also confused.
"Because the objective of Lord's curriculum is not to practice martial arts but to gain connection." Sarielle suddenly talked behind us. If you want to learn martial arts, you should take the proper curriculum."
We then turned towards him in shock.
"Then, the entire lord's curriculum is just eating and having tea together? We pay over 300 thousand gold for that?" Lily widened her eyes
"Good Afternoon Lord Lily." Elvira came to us, "Hard at practice as usual?"
"Of course, she needed to practice! She came from Synctail in Regoia, after all! Hahaha."
"I see. Synctail certainly had low standards regarding swordsmanship…." Some of the observing lords chided us in the distance. Lily tilted her head at their remark.
"Are they mocking us?" Lily asked me in her mind.
"Yes. But I didn't know Synctail had low standards regarding swords. Alith and Sana were pretty good. They managed to beat you together, right?" I answered.
"Alith, does Synctail Academy have a low Swordsmanship standard?" Lily finally asked someone who knew our alma mater the best. Sairelle, Alith, and Sana looked away as if embarrassed.
"Huh?"
"Our standard is not low by any means. It is just that Lord Edelweiss was not very good at swordsmanship." Sarielle whispered. We heard him loud and clear though
"I see."
"If someone like Lord Edelweiss can graduate from the Synctail Swordsmanship lesson, their standard must be poor."
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"Please don't mock Lord Edelweiss so much. She is a great mage, after all. Her talents merely sided with magic." Elvira commented.
"That's the problem. It is the duty of an academy to raise someone at least with some minimum standard. I am not the greatest swordmaster either, but I couldn't help but laugh at her swordsmanship." The arrogant elf laughed together with his cronies. No matter the world, there was always this bully that loved to disparage others.
"Please rest assured! Our swordsmen and swordswomen this year were excellent." Sarielle smiled confidently. "Our synctail academy standard certainly won't be something to be laughed upon ever again."
"Yeah! We have heroes of the fort soleil! Lord Lily herself! She not only manages to scout undead lands with no casualties, but she also manages to strike human's fort and kill their commander while saving tailfolk and elves alike!" Alith proudly advertised Lily's name.
"Isn't it simply because of her blessing? Her blessing has nothing to do with your academy's standard, right?" The elves snickered. Alith and Sariel had no comeback, but lily challenged the elves.
"Hm… How about your retainers fight with my retainers? I do want to see other academy's standards?" Lily taunted them. "Even when I have blessings, My two retainers could defeat me when I am careless, you know."
"Hm! Swordsmen from Synctail? I shall refuse. It is not worth our time." The bully then left, unwilling to take the bet. What an intelligent bully. From the movement of their retainers and comparing them with Alith, there was only a 70 percent chance for Alith to win. They knew this. That's why they refused the match.
"Good job Lord Lily!" Alith
"Who are they?"
"They are from Hoeth. Most of Hoeth didn't like you, Lord Lily." Elvira said.
"But Master Ghander is so nice. Isn't he the headmaster here?" Lily asked.
"We are in the lord's curriculum. Master Ghander is at warrior curriculum. Wait, you knew master Ghander?" Elvira widened her eyes in shock.
"Yes. He is an excellent swordmaster. I couldn't beat him." Lily replied while her memory of her battle with Ghander resurfaced. We couldn't last two hit with him.
"You sparred with him!?" Elvira almost shouted and the entire student turned to us.
"Um… Yes?" She said shyly.
"I adore Master Ghander as he is the best swordsman in the kingdom! He is so cool, right? How strong was he?" Elvira suddenly dropped her calm demeanor and fangirled him. We were taken aback by such a sudden change in attitude.
"It was impolite for you to speak of others behind their back, little girls." Ghander suddenly appeared behind us. The old elf's appearance was so sudden that we all yelped in surprise.
"Lord Ghander! How are you?" Lily spoke politely while glaring at me in her mind for not telling her. Sorry, Lily. I didn't see him either. My mind was preoccupied with the matter of those bullies.
"I am most certainly well, Lord Lily. Now if you will excuse me, I have some matter to attend to. Please come to the dining hall for dinner tonight. There is something we wish to tell all the lords here. This is very important as the king himself will attend the meeting." He then stared at all the students, and all of them straightened their backs and saluted him.
"I wonder what they want to talk about," I muttered.
"It must be because of that war, right?"
"Yeah. But this is a school, right? Do students have such importance that the king came here to inform us himself?"
"This is not an ordinary school but lord's curriculum. All the lords' sons or daughters from the elf's kingdom will be here. It is the fastest way to inform everyone, right?" Lily muttered.
"Wow, you grew smarter. I didn't realize that."
"Of course! I am studying too, you know" Lily puffed her chest proudly.
We then prepared for dinner that night.
