Chapter 101 The Legion of Heads and Tails
----------------------------------------
“Already two days, and we are nowhere close to exiting this maze,” Rhander whined. “Lhorne, any news?”
“We got the pattern here. After adding several markers using earth spears, we concluded that the dungeons didn’t change entirely. It is just several sections changing places.”
“Be careful with the traps. The moving section sometimes added traps like pitfalls. If we get separated here, we will die.” Thor exclaimed. After two more hours, we finally saw the new biome.
“Ah!! It’s here! The boiling lake!” Sig exclaimed.
“Wow, it is just like games with moving platforms!” I commented when looking at the moving platform across the vast lake. It moved back and forth, just like In those RPG games. However, unlike those RPG games, the platform moves ever so slowly, maybe at a quarter of the average walking speed. The glowing blue cave still lit the entire area, making our torches unnecessary. But the steam from the boiling lake drowned our visibility.
“Say, some monsters will definitely attack us when we step on those platforms, right?” Alistar asked.
“Yes. How did you know?”
“A lot of other dungeons do that, too,” Edelweiss replied, looking annoyed. “These dungeons are the worst.”
“Well, glad we have strong bones here. Younglings tended to panic and fall off the platform. I almost did that. Thank goodness my dad cut off those tentacles and saved me.” Sig muttered.
“Which ones should we ride?” Lily asked.
“I think we are supposed to hop from the middle ones. That’s the shortest, right?” Alistar said.
“But that one is the smallest. We would need three trips from there.” Edelweiss said.
“Someone proficient with swords or axes needs to be there. I nominated Lord Alistar or Lily to guard us until the middle platform. The tentacles are a bit nasty.”
“This would take a day just to get to the middle.” Joseph groaned.
“Don’t get careless now. Three of my father’s men died here.”
“Alright. Let’s go!”
“The huge surface at the middle lake looks like an arena. I wonder if we got to fight something in the middle of that lake.” Lily muttered, which earned her a nod from Sig.
“Watch out!” Lhorne shouted as the first group tried to hop on the platform. A massive number of fishmen struck out with their spears from the water. Whoa! These monsters could survive boiling water? I never knew. This dungeon sure was something.

Lily blocked them with the reflex of level 9 swordsmanship. Likewise, Alistar also swiped his axe, but before we could pursue them for the finishing blow, the fishmen retreated back into the lake.
“This is getting annoying,” Lily whined.
“They surely liked to harass us. I reckon this kind of strategy called guerilla warfare employed by us ages ago.” Alistar smiled wryly.
“Watch out!” Joseph quickly ran before Edelweiss, and an arrow was deflected with his tower shield. The harassment continued during our stay at the platform. The steam made us sweat, and our focus lessened, but we managed to get into the center arena. It was a platform as wide as our town hall plus its surrounding garden. The boiling water splashed up to show a 9 headed dragon with over twenty wiggling tails on its back.
“Whoa, that thing is huge. How do we beat it.” Alistar asked the obvious question.
“Dunno. Never seen it before,”
“Huh?”
“It was a different monster each time, okay! Last time was a snake; before that, my father said it was a lizard! And before that, it was a hundred fishmen!”

Level: 90
“Whoa! Its level is as high as Edelweiss! Watch out, Lily!”
The dragon’s monstrous body slowly dragged on toward us. While its body was slow, its head was fast. With a body as big as a house, it was hard to attack it except with magic.
“Take some distance and bombard it. Edelweiss! Niece! Rhander!” Alistar gave out instructions, and we started taking action. Fireballs started pouring down toward the hydra. It cried out in pain and charged at us with all its power. Its speed now rose to unbelievable height. As it reached us, its numerous heads tried to chomp Alistar, but he swung wide with his axe and deflected them all.
“Lily! Mattheus!”
“On it!” With a speed of a bullet, Lily dashed with Mattheus. With an upward slash, she cut one of the hydra’s heads while Mattheus cut another one with a downward slash.
“Two down! Six to go!” Sig and the other dwarves shouted as they defended themselves from its tail. Its tails were long with serrated spear-like edges. They battled us with the precision and expertise of expert spearmen.
ROAR!!*
The hydra roared as multiple icicles formed in the air around it. The icicle then rained down toward us in a blizzard of ice. I moved my buckler to the front while Alistar and Mattheus used their weapon to shield themselves.
“It roared again. This time the mana is concentrated on its feet. Watch out for the ground below.” I warned Lily, and Edelweiss shouted. She tried to warn the others of the same dangers I just saw.
Multiple rock spears protrude from our feet, trying to skewer us as we desperately dodge them. The hydra howled again, and this time, numerous fireballs swirled around it. I quickly countered the fireballs with my own and shot them as they swirled around. They exploded on top of the dragon, which screeches in pain.
“Good job Lily! Disrupt its mana song! Give me two minutes to rally my own spells.” Edelweiss replied. Now it was her turn. She stood while holding her staff firm. Mana swirled around her as she molded it into various spells.
“How is that possible. I thought Edelweiss only had a blessing for healing.” Lily asked me, and I explained.
“She gathered mana and then pulled it towards the huge feystone in the center. Then, from there, the non-attribute mana flowed to the smaller feystones. Then she used the smaller feystones for spells” I gazed at her ephemeral figure as a glittering fog of mana danced around her.
“Is it hard?”
“I can’t do it. Even with my blessings. She must have trained extensively for this.” I explained.
“She is amazing,” Lily muttered as she gazed at her beauty and elegance.
Our counterattack against the hydra began.
