Chapter 12
----------------------------------------
"So, Jack, you have some explaining to do!" Mattheus said as he grabbed his shoulders. Jack apparently ran away with us. I wonder why he didn't run back to the city with the soldiers.
"As I said, the lord was threatened by Baron Glon to hang you guys at the city hall."
"But that damn baron was a low noble from other countries!! You guys were just using us!!" Patrick said. He was ready to kill Jack.
"Wait. If you kill him, you will get a manslayer job. If you have manslayer and bandit, we will be hunted like beasts. Don't do it." Mattheus said. Everyone then looked at me.
"Lily, did you have that job…." Nora asked fearfully. "No, never mind. Even if you have it, I will be with you until the end."
"That baron was a successful merchant. He may be just a baron, but his wealth heavily influences merchant guilds for both countries!"
"Okay…" Mattheus then released him. "Let us continue walking. We are not safe yet. We have killed some of their soldiers. They will chase us."
"By the way, is that magic?" Patrick asked
"Did you get a blessing? I must say, that was a perfect moment. I didn't think I would witness someone get a blessing before my eyes." Mattheus smirked as he looked at me.
"Wow! You get a blessing! Amazing!" Nora said
"Well… yes… maybe?" Lily shyly spoke
"Lily? Is magic only used by someone with blessing?" I asked.
"No. There are jobs called wizard or mage. But their way of using magic was completely different. I don't know the specifics, but they need to use a catalyst called mana stone to use magic." Mattheus, the mercenary, answered us. He sure knew everything about this world.
"Lily… I must ask… did you get Manslayer job?" Mattheus asked.
“Umm… No…“
"Thank goodness!!" Nora said while cheering
"You have good luck! Not only did you get a blessing, but you also didn't get that criminal job. Excellent!" Mattheus smiled as he looked at Lily's status. Ahh, since I am the one that killed him, I am the one that got the manslayer job. Well, the crime is with me. I don't need to tell Lily about this. I have no regret in killing them anyway.
"Boss, why can that soldiers kill us, but we can't kill them?" Nora asked while looking dissatisfied.
"Well, if you have a manslayer job, the person that kills you will not get that job. Soldiers fight each other, so they view manslayers as a badge of honor. But for us, manslayer means we are ruthless bandits that need to be eradicated at once. By the way, killing other races will get you a different slayer job. That guy probably had beastman slayer or something, so you could kill them without repercussions." Mattheus smiled
"Well, I suggest you come with us, Jack. You no longer had a home to return to." Mattheus said.
"What?"
"The goods that we stole belong to Baron Glon. If he found those goods in your house, your house is finished."
Jack paled when he heard that sentence. He then cradled his head while crying.

I searched the surroundings. Since my appraisal skill went up, I also managed to see levels. Moreover, I can see it from quite a distance. This is going to be my go-to skill for scouting and preventing ambushes.
"There is a boar there, after that bushes. We should hunt both the mother and the kid," I advised Lily. She only nodded and went in the direction I pointed. The hunt was easy. I molded my magic, then threw the fireball at the boar's head. Then, Lily stabbed it in the eye while I chanted another ball to kill the juvenile.
The adult was challenging but not difficult. It was just hard to cut its fur. Their skill only consisted of charging head-on. It might be difficult for others, but if I shot a fireball in its face, it quickly slipped and fell down. A minute later, we finally killed it.
"Whoa, so blessing can give you magic… I never knew that…." Nora said while chewing the roasted meat. The juvenile's meat tasted better than the adult's. The pork was less chewy and also less stinky. It was a shame the juvenile's flesh was not as much as the adult's. With the adult, our group didn't need to worry about food for at least 3 days. After a brief rest, the sun was finally up, and we continued to the north.
"Is it good to continue to the north like this?" Jack asked.
"No. But because of your dad, we have no choice." Matheus replied honestly.
"Then. We should circle around near the corner of the province Valusta Sain, then we can go to another city. Maybe province Valusta Tres? Why the elves of all places?"
"Because we have Nora and Lily. Moreover, Lily had a blessing." Matheus replied, "any beas… I mean, any demi-human with a blessing must wear a collar issued by the state. They are going to be slaves for their entire lives."
"But the elves…." Jack protested.
"At the very least, we will leave them at the Elves' City. They can be a citizen there." Matheus replied. "We cannot carry Nora and Lily to human settlements."
Whoa. Matheus was very sincere. I was surprised. I thought every human was a bitch in this world. Moreover, he seemed to care about Nora and Lily's well-being even though we had just met him. I'd like to know if we can form a party in the elven country as adventurers.
"Matheus, can you tell me about Ares?" Lily parrotted my question.
"Oh, is that the god who gave you the blessing?" he replied.
"Um… Yes..?" It was actually me who got the blessing, but we are the same anyway. Just say yes, Lily.
"Well, He is the god of courage. Aligned with fire, maybe. Hm… Sorry. I don't know much more."
"I want to ask about Tale of Fire."
"It is a magic of fire attribute. I had a friend who had an acquaintance who knew about magic. He said if you obtained magic through blessing, you could use any kind of magic from that attribute. Imagination is the limit. That's what he said. Is it true?" Matheus said. Lily only looked at her tail.
I then manipulated the mana within me and created a fireball. The fire changed shape to an arrow, then I changed its size and formed a spear. After that, I put a fire enchantment on Lily's sword, which blazes it up. Whoa, this magic is pretty cool.
"I see. So he was right. Normal mages certainly can't do that." Matheus replied.
But saying that we can do everything is not valid, Mattheus. My mana is indeed decreasing. If it went to zero, I can't use magic until it regenerates. I also will feel dizzy, and it might disrupt my combat ability. I wonder how other mages actually do it.
"Where is the elven city?" Lily asked.
"About a week to the north. It is pretty far. The problem is the jungle between. It is said that any unwelcome visitor will not leave that forest alive." Mattheus said grimly.
Whoa. The rumored jungle of illusion. In the game, it is often the case that these kinds of jungles need locals to venture into them.
"Wait! Wait just a minute! We need elves to help us traverse that path, right? I have been to the border! We can't go there! It is better to take some chances in other provinces than that!" Jack screamed.
"Well, We had someone with a blessing. We will be fine!" Mattheus shrugged him with a smile.
Mattheus was so reluctant to meet other noble or human settlements after the previous betrayal that he rejected every other alternative Jack gave.
"Someone is coming!" Nora said. "It is those soldiers! They are chasing us."
"Die! Bandits!" The soldier charged at me, but I just cast a compressed fireball that exploded into his face. Without its rider, the horse stopped. Seven more knights surrounded us. I prompted Lily to draw her sword. She jumped and bisected his neck.
Lily have a new Job Manslayer
"Wait, Lily. Don't kill them… Well, we aren't going to human settlement. I guess this is fine. Let's kill them!" Nora said as she also fought seriously.
"Ahh!! they killed Ludwig!!" The soldier screamed as I fired another fireball, killing another soldier. After we killed about 5 of them, they no longer had confidence, even if they were on horseback. They run with their tail between their legs.
"A good spoil today!! We had 5 new horses! And 5 full pieces of equipment minus the helmet!!" I said with glee. My mood soared as I killed these bitches. Even though I was a human, not even a speck of guilt was felt in my body. My body wagged happily at my newfound power.
Our journey continued after we looted the corpses.
