Chapter 59 Tailking To Nobles
----------------------------------------
Sana, whose room was next to Lily's, started to brew some crude tea, and while we sat down, she poured it while Alith was preparing some biscuits.
"You only have 2 attendants, Lord Lily?" Elvira asked.
"Yes. I graduated in a hurry. I was given land, after all." Lily smiled.
"Yes. I apologize for my haste. I simply wanted to meet and greet you. Your fame preceded you here in Hoeth. Rhegar, the patronage of Lord Alistar absolutely praised you for your mettle, and he also owed his life to you."
"Rhegar?"
"The guy in fort Soleil when we are tasked to scout the undead lands. If I remember, he is also a decarions like Lhorne." I complemented Lily's missing memory.
"Ah! He was injured, right? Is he okay? He went back to fight right after pouring holy water into his wound." Lily replied. Her memory was fuzzy. I recall we were escaping that time, but nonetheless, I will not correct her.
"He would be a laughing stock among veteran elven soldiers if you showed concern for minor wounds like that, Lord Lily. I thank you, nevertheless, for your caring attitude. I heard about your accomplishment of conducting three successful scouting missions without even losing one of your members. It was an extraordinary feat."
"Thank you! But it was all thanks to the soldiers who supported me. Lhorne and Joseph also deserved some credits." Lily smiled as they continued to talk.
Elvira continued to ramble about The fort while mixing in some praises here and there. As I grew suspicious about her motive for being here, she asked us to rest for tonight. And so, the abrupt tea party was over.
The following day, The class was divided into several sets of round tables. We were then guided into our seats. Sarielle was also there as Alith and Sana were behind me as retainers. Some elven lords had more than fifteen retainers tailing them. There were some who brewed tea, some who prepared cups, etc.
"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Trudeliede. I will be guiding you on Lord's curriculum for this year. You are a lord, you have the privilege, and you have a duty. You have choices and obligations not bound by law. Thus, it was your choice to attend this lesson. You may or may not graduate this year, you may or may not graduate in ten years, you may attend this lesson, or you may not even after you graduate. It is all up to you. Now I, on this blessed moon, hereby open the new semester of the Lord's curriculum!" The headmaster gave a very incoherent speech, and the tea party commenced.

Lily had no time for tea as some elves stood up from their seat and gathered around us. They formed up an orderly queue and sat down beside us. Sarielle was quickly cast aside as they 'persuaded' him to mingle with other lords not currently queuing at our table.
"Greetings Lord Lily. I am Elvira. We introduced each other the night before." Elvira smiled
"Oh my. How impatient! That's not very polite of you. Haste makes waste, they say!" Other elves chided her. But Lily was confused inside.
"Shiro, why am I suddenly popular? Back in Synctail, they ignored me like grass on the field."
"I assume it is because of your accomplishment in Fort Soleil and the High Council Directives that stated we needed to recruit every able-bodied man?"
"Is this your first time in Lord's curricula?"
"Yes! I just became a lord a month ago. So I apologize if I am not too accustomed to Lord's habits."
"Well, you are a tailfolk, so it is understandable that you did not understand our culture. May I know how you will proceed with High council directives?"
"Yes, I have sent letters to Lhorne. He said we have recruited about thirty percent of the populace from Edenthal." Lily confidently answered. I scouted around, and while other lords didn't seem to pay us any attention, their ears perked when troops were mentioned.
"I see. Thirty percent, huh? Would that be enough?" Elvira asked.
"Maybe. But that is the best we can do right now. We need to work the farm for supply, too, right?"
"yeah! Our economy would take a hit, but if it is thirty percent, maybe we could manage." other lords commented.
"Nah, thirty percent is a lot. About half of our business would go bankrupt then! Maybe if we only sent tailfolk…."
"Nah, no matter who we sent, it is the same for me. Tailfolk has been the backbone of our regions. Over 70% of menial labors are done by them…."
"Is it not possible to reduce it further?" Elvira asked. While Lily talked to Elvira, I listened to the other elves' comments. It was clear that they were reluctant to send their troops.
"Aren't you the ones that wanted to liberate northlangard? Why are you hesitant? I joined in simply because I feared the undead would kill us all. But you have a different motive, right?" Lily asked directly. The elves all looked away in an instant.
"Northlangard was our most prosperous region. Everyone had family in Northlangard before its fall. It was capital in our heart." Elvira answered.
"Huh?" Lily tilted her head while I joined her, confused. Northlangard is their capital?
"Well, it was hard to explain. Let us just say that it was a very important place for us." Elvira nodded.
"Oh yeah, Elvira. Are you the daughter of Lord Alistar?" Lily asked.
"Yes. My two older siblings and I were educated to be a successor or helpers to lord alistar." Elvira nodded.
"Where is Lord Alistar Region?"
"I think we just missed each other. Your stay in Reminiscence was quite brief after all." She giggled as she mentioned a name of a city.
"Ah, I see."
"That's why I would love to personally know you. If we fail this expedition, our region will be the next one to be attacked. I wonder how many troops should we donate? Lord Lily, as the person who has seen them up close, do you have any suggestions?"
"Well, currently, I have none. Sorry, but I could not speak here as it would be a breach of military confidentiality. But I could tell you that we must do our best to repulse those undead." Lily spoke like a proper lord. Good thing she knew when to keep her mouth shut.
The tea party continued on for a while. Lily was asked various questions while the lords were obviously prying for the military secrets Lily held. By the time we were done, The sun was already high in the sky, and we were exhausted. It was a lot more tiring than expected, even though we barely did anything but talk.
