Chapter 90 Tales of War Part 2
----------------------------------------
"Sana? What's the meaning of this. You knew there was an attack yesterday by humans, right? I could not afford to be stationed in Fort Soleil now!" Lily raised her voice unintentionally. She was a new lord, and rejecting this request might put a stain on her name, primarily since those central assholes already viewed her like an upstart noble.
"Well, Alith was convincing the other lords right now. This summons was delivered to Alith just a day ago before the humans even attempted to infiltrate our homes."
"I see. There is some hope for them to rescind the order, right?"
"Yes. If you can petition Lord Edelweiss and other lords, they will sure to accept your denial."
"Alright. I am sorry that I have to ask this much from you now that you just returned from Hoeth with Alith. But I must ask you to deliver some letters for Lord Edelweiss and Lord Alistar. Please support me to rescind this order and if possible please help me too. According to the intelligence I got from Jack, this is just a scouting unit. Their main force has not yet arrived."
"Yes, ma'am!" Sana went to the door, but Lily stopped her.
"Wait, what is the summons about? Is there any change in Fort Soleil that specifically requires me to be present?"
"Uh…. The undead attacked again. This time they brought a battering ram. We managed to destroy it, and Fort Soleil was safe. But the archers were really troublesome. Lord Alistar hoped we could use your fire dragon to attack the enemy's rear soldiers." Sana summarized the content of the letter in her own words to Lily.
"Shiro, that's bad, isn't it? They already have siege equipment."
"Yeah, but maybe this is a chance?"
"What do you mean?"
"You know. That luring into human territory thingies."
"Ahh! You are right! This is a chance!" Lily shouted while I swung my tail in excitement. Sana was weirded out when Lily yelled out of the blue.
"What do you mean by chance Lord Lily?"
"Lord Ghander and I had a discussion once. It is to lure those undead to human lands. I am sorry to trouble you again, but can you inform Alith about this? Try to lure the undead into human realms while the elite troops go inside."
"But we don't even have Golderite and Titan ore yet? Why enact the plan now?" Lhorne asked.
This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
"If the human knew that the elves were trying to make them into sacrificial lambs, they won't have any energy to attack this place." Lily reasoned with Lhorne. "That would free up a lot of our strength."
"Ah! Good idea!" Sana nodded." Leave it to me. I will tell Alith on the way."
The thirty soldiers that we captured were turned into slaves for farming. They were imprisoned for the night and told to work at dawn.
A week later, the second wave of the human army arrived. We camped out at the edge of Edenthal to monitor them. This time, they brought out about a thousand troops with patrols here and there to guard the new base camp.
"We could not ambush this one without heavy casualties," Lhorne said.
"We might lose instead. These ones were a lot better than the ones with Sylvester." Lily looked at their movements.
"How about a night raid?" Sain said. He was one of the decarions that Lily appointed to lead her troops.
"Only elves can do that. We could not see very well in the dark." lily replied. "Ugh…. Ghander promised us five hundred elven troops if humans attacked."
"It would take several days even if Lord Edelweiss rushed here from Regoia," Lhorne said.
"Let's pull back for now. There is nothing we can do here. We have to battle it out inside the forest." Lily said. Everyone nodded their heads.
We adopted a guerilla tactic for humans. We were alone in this war for now. The elves had said that they needed to focus on the undead. The letters that came from them were all bad news. So far, the humans scouted until halfway through Edenthal Forest.
"We must take the initiative now, even if I have to go out there!" Lily shouted to herself. Everyone was vexed that the elves didn't help us. Having their archers perform a night raid on human basecamps would be a blessing.
"Alright. Let's perform a night raid as you suggested and blaze them through the ground!" Lhorne suggested. He was an elf. He could see in the night without any problem.
You have leveled up to level 21
The nostalgic level-up blue boxes appeared after I cast another dragon on top of their base at night. The lazy human went into a panic and scrambled to kill the dragon. The damage was less than expected, but I got a level-up regardless.
"They are still alive," Lily muttered while looking at their base camp. It was scorched here and there, but it was still functioning. They brought out three mages and countered our dragon with water and arrows. Several soldiers were also seen jumping and slashing at it when it got closer to the ground. I need to remember their faces. They must be humans high leveled soldiers. They would be a major thorn in our side later.
"Just like Sylvester's case, your dragon magic is powerful but not omnipotent. It can be dispelled or killed." Lhorne replied. "Maybe we should opt for a different magic tomorrow. Instead of the long-lasting fire dragon, could you use explosion-type magic?"
"Alright!" I replied to Lily. Which then parroted back to Lhorne. "Maybe I will attack them with an enlarged fireball tomorrow."
"You should sleep. I will stay guard and watch them. I will tell you what I saw in the morning." Lhorne replied, and Lily nodded.
"Shiro, I don't want to kill them like this," Lily whined to me in an impromptu tent our army made in the middle of the woods. She hugged me while whining. Her hands felt good on my tail as she stroked me and sometimes brushed my fur.
"They attacked us first. We need to defend ourselves." I reasoned with her, but she still shook her head.
"If we build our countries, will we have to kill like this?" Lily asked. I searched for a modicum of my history knowledge about the earth.
"Yes."
"Is there any way to avoid such a senseless killing?"
"Let's find it together. I hope it can be true." I replied, and we slept through the night.
