Chapter 34 Slacking Tail

Chapter 34

----------------------------------------

We came to the wall, and Lily Charged at the Vargmuth with her new elven saber. It cuts really well. After cutting off its arms, we moved on to the legs and finally decapitated it. The other also helped. Despite our initial fear that the frontline was collapsing, there were no deaths. Most were lightly bruised or sprained their ankle at worst.

"Lily, don't charge in too deep. You will endanger the troops." Lhorne shouted. Lily followed his advice and retreated. We took on one vargmuth at a time while the others were taking the others. Soon the area was clear, and no more of those bat gorillas were seen.

"Fire mage! Go to the top of the wall!"

"All Right!! now is our turn!!" Rhander shouted. We followed Joseph to our respective post, and a sea of skeletons and zombies were laid before our eyes.

"Lhorne, use this instead!" Joseph threw Lhorne a quiver which he picked from the wounded soldiers.

Arrow of purification

Bonus damage to undeath

"Okay, ready, Fire!" Rhander shouted. All of the elves that were with us held their feystones and fireballs rained down on the undead below. The flesh was catching fire, and explosions lit the grim battlefield destroying the bone walker. Another volley came from other units and rained down on the zombies below. Ah, I was supposed to follow them and cast my spell too.

“Okay, second volley!” Rhander shouted. He put down his empty feystone and grabbed another. This time I followed him and prepared a fireball with them.

"Fire!" Rhander shouted, and another volley of fireballs rained down from the fort. The zombies soon disintegrated the miasma was cleared as the dark cloud dissipated. Red sunsets were peeking among the dissipating cloud, reminiscent of the battlefield of despair and hope. The day was over.

"All right! Good job! Everyone. I was a little panicked there when Vargmuth attacked, but there seemed to be no problem!" Joseph shouted while laughing happily.

"There is a huge problem! What kind of soldiers let his lord be attacked! A rearguard commander getting attacked meant the army was losing!" Rhander shouted.

"But we are not attacked. We are the ones that attack them. This is not a rear guard unit. This is a flanking unit. Just look at her sword skills." Joseph argued.

"Just look at her magic. She can take down a vargmuth by herself using her spells. Yet she had to cover your ineptitude of guarding her!" Rhander protested.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

"You…" Joseph was fuming, but Lhorne stopped him

"Calm down, you two. Lily is our troop's lord and the acting commander since Lord Edelweiss is occupied with important matters. Only she has the right to reprimand you. So, Miss Lily, what do you say about our recent battle?" Lhorne said while throwing the ball in our direction.

Both of them widened their eyes and apologized at once. Then they looked at Lily. Lhorne, what did you expect us to do in this situation?

"Well, we won, and no one got injured, so it's fine! Yay to our victory!" Lily cutely raised her fist, and soldiers cheered with her. The tailfolk seemed to shout with all their might while the elves dryly smiled as they thought we were just sweeping the matter under the rug. They smiled regardless as they didn't receive any reprimand.

"This is bad…" my thought was then transmitted to Lily. We have zero knowledge and were told to lead a company worth of soldiers. Fifty of them were elite elven soldiers, while the others were regular soldiers directly under the elite soldiers.

"Lhorne, Joseph, Rhander, let us eat together!" Lily parrotted my suggestion. "There were a lot of questions I would like to ask."

They then eyed us wide-eyed and smiled at once while nodding their head. Then Lhorne arranged the meeting time, and we returned to the infirmary.

"How's the battle going? I hope there were no injuries to us." Edelweiss smiled languidly. Her mana flow was a lot weaker than usual. She must be tired of healing all these soldiers.

"Yes, Maam! There were no casualties, and we managed to slay 3 vargmuth and countless undeath at the gate on our first day! Today was a great victory for us!" Joseph reported. Rhander also nodded while smiling since his fireball volley was also recognized.

"Great! Please remember to be safe above all. Glory can be earned later but not your lives."

“Yes! Lord Edelweiss.”

"Lily, how are you?"

“I am fine Lord Edelweiss!” Lily smiled.

"She took down two vargmuth by herself. She is very proficient!" Joseph praised us.

"Let us head to the eatery. Lhorne will pay!" Lily shouted.

"Ehhh?" Lhorne widened his eye. The others eyed him looking baffled.

"Ah, Lily is a new lord, so she might not have the necessary etiquette or funds for the meantime. I hope that you forgive some of her behavior." Edelweiss explained

"Ah, of course. I am sorry." Lhorne conceded

"I would love to join you. But my body requires rest. I apologize that I must leave for today."

"Yes, ma'am! Please rest well!" The decarions shouted while adding a heartfelt word from their heart. Edelweiss was loved dearly.

We then headed to the cafeteria, but an argument soon sprang up again.

“A lord dined in cafetaria?” Rhander whined

"She is new. Besides, this is not her territory but a fortress. We don't have that much space to house lord's room. Let's treat her as a penniless lord like Skythether but with more respect." Joseph sighed

"But she is not a fallen lord or disgraced! She is popular and has the backing of Lord Edelweiss and Master Ghander of Hoeth!" Rhander shouted. We could only spin our eyes in confusion as they argued endlessly. We met at the cafeteria in the evening while Joseph and Rhander wore their best attire. They looked so regal that if other people were to look at us, anybody would think they were the lords and we were the underlings.

"Ugh… I dress inappropriately… that armor was your only clothes?" Rhander and Joseph moaned.

"We apologize for not understanding our lord's current financial capabilities. We hope that your grace will let this misbehaved conduct pass as we strive to improve ourselves." Rhander bowed, followed by Joseph, who muttered the same word.

"Very well. Please have a seat. I shall now tell you the tale of our meeting as heaven ordained them. May the gods entwine our tales so the future fate will bring you higher." Lhorne said.

Lhorne then began his tale. About our first meeting. He suggested he lead the discussion to Lily as we talked to fellow elves. We nodded and let him talk.
