Chapter 29: No Tail Academy Yet

Chapter 29

----------------------------------------

"I see. Had you been an elf, I would grant you the right to be a captain of Hoeth knights and lord of a province just like Edelweiss. But you don't seem to need it. I shall see your endeavor. If you can do it, I will accept you as the new queen of tailfolk country. I have some saying at the high court of the elves. Of course, you can't take an elven land for your country. But You already knew which land you wanted, right?" Ghander said while hinting at the human land. The one that was taken from the tailfolk.

"Yes! Thank you, Lord Ghander!" Lily smiled as they seemed to bond over the short course of interaction.

"Lord Ghander, making such promises…." Edelweiss was stunned. her face is no longer calm as usual.

"Elves love order and harmony. That is our nature. Had the humans not destroyed Northlangard, we wouldn't hate them so much. I didn't hate humans. I merely saw them as pests that needed to be eradicated to preserve harmony and order. But she seemed to have another idea."

"Yes, I want to live and meet with everyone like a big family. Where we can dine at the same table together! Lord Ghander! Thank you for your support!" Lily smiled while sharing her dreams.

"I have other business to attend to, farewell. I hope to see the new dawn from you." Ghander left with a smile. Lily waved at him, but he didn't wave back but bowed his head a little. The culture gap can be seen here.

"Bye-bye!" she waved her hands, and with my tail, we waved at him. Our clothes didn't suit tailfolk, so when I waved my tail to him, it messed up the skirt. Lhorne facepalmed at our disgrace while Edelweiss only gave wry smiles.

"That concludes our meeting today. I hope you will enjoy Regoia for a while. The carriage is yours. I hope you will stay here for a while. We still need to discuss attending Sinctail in Regoia. But since you are the direct lord of western Regoia, this would be a little bit difficult." Edelweiss frowned at the situation. It was rare for lords to attend schools since almost all of them had already graduated before even taking their posts.

"I suggest she attended immediately and left the lordship over her territory to Wharne like now," Lhorne replied. We were already back in the meeting room. Lily pouted again at the room's OCD design.

"Hold on a minute. Why are you talking as if Wharnebald is her subordinate?" Nora asked. "Isn't our land located in the corner of that frontier village?

"He is now her subordinate. Guardian of western Regoia meant the area around The frontier village." Edelweiss replied. Everyone was stunned in silence.

"Let's continue on. For Silvester's Reward, Lily already received hers. Nora shall be granted five thousand gold, and Mattheus shall receive a freedom medal. And Lhorne will be promoted from a three-man team into a ten-man leader." Edelweiss stated.

You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author.

"I thank you for your generous reward! I shall strive to meet your expectation!" Lhorne spoke while grinning. Happiness permeated from his body. Everyone except Lhorne looked at Nora with envy.

"Huh? What's the matter?" Edelweiss seemed shocked that we weren't celebrating the occasion.

"Thank you…" Lily said while pouting.

"Thank you for the gold!!" Nora said while smiling, although the gaze from Lily made her restrain her smile.

"Thank you. But sorry, may I know what this medal is about?" Mattheus smiled wryly. From the name, I knew what the medal was about. But a simple emblem will not erase the hated look from the elves and tailfolk. I was unsure if Mattheus would want to leave the village without us.

"If you wear them, you will not be treated as slaves. You may shop, or you may go outside the village without repercussion." Edelweiss replied. "Please wear them at all times; otherwise, there might be some unfortunate accidents."

"Now that matter is done, we shall discuss your admission to the Sinctail Academy."

"Do I need to attend school?" Lily pouted, seemingly uninterested in the topic.

"Do you hate school, Lily?" I asked her

"Luigi talked about it, and he disliked it so much that he threw a tantrum whenever it was mentioned. He said there were bullying, Homework, And Tests…." Lily replied in her mind.

"You don't seem t like it. However, I believe you still need to attend. If you don't attend, you will not make any connection with other elves. And there are tailfolk too. So, you won't be the only tailfolk there. And you may bring Nora and three other attendants." Edelweiss stated

"The thing that you need to focus there is reading, math, and etiquette. The etiquette lesson is socialization. As a new lord, making as many friends as possible would be in your best interest." Edelweiss stated. I had the skill for reading and math. So, I just need to focus on etiquette.

"Okay."

"Lord Edelweiss. An emergency letter arrived just now." The servant came in and handed her a letter.

"Hmm? Oh, dear… I guess we have to postpone your admittance. We are needed at fort Soleil." Edelweiss frowned after reading the letter.

"Fort Soleil?"

"It is the fort on the other corner of the elven country. It borders Northlangard and the human country. It is an important fort for elves and humans." Mattheus chimed in.

"Oh. You have been there?" Nora asked.

"No, Another mercenary took the job to assault the fort. We talked about it over a drink in a bar several years ago." Mattheus replied. Edelweiss glared at him but quickly softened when he mentioned he had never attacked the fort. "He said It was a nightmare as the opposing human fort were both attacked by zombies."

"Lord Edelweiss, I have never killed anyone. I might be a mercenary, but my main job in that business is usually guarding the supply route. I haven't been tasked with such a big job to assault a fortress." Mattheus made clear that he never killed an elf to appease Edelweiss, who was glaring at him. She quickly smiled and apologized as though she was ashamed of her quick temper.

"Very well. Let's go, Lily. Mattheus, I am sorry that I must forbid humans from entering the fort, so you have to go back to the frontier village. But Nora, will you go back to Lily's village, or will you go with Lily?"

"I will go with Lily, of course!" Nora shouted.

"I will come too," Lhorne affirmed.

"Of course, you will come, Lhorne. You and the other five decarion will join me at the fort." Edelweiss said.

"What? That many soldiers will leave this province?"

"Yes. Just in case, we will bring them reinforcements."

"Very well. I will accept your order."

"We will leave at dawn tomorrow. You may rest."

Nora gave all her gold to Mattheus, and we departed to Fort Soleil. No school life for Lily yet. We leave for a real war now.
