Chapter 17

"Oh yeah, Lily. What about Status points for your level-ups?"
"Oh, you can do anything with it, Shiro. I can't see it anyway. Just make me stronger, okay?" she smiled as she stroked me.
"Okay, now that their safety is reassured, you may rest here," Lhorne said
"Sir, Lord Wharne called for you and the Foxkin." Soldiers ran over to us.
"What? But the sun already sets. They need some rest." Lhorne said. He seemed to know what was going on, but the lord was more impatient than he thought.
"The lord says it is very important…."
"Hah… Well, I am sorry, Lily, but I guess we will be returning to the chief house again. It must be about your next job."
We went to the chief's house again, and an important-looking elf sat before lord Wharnebald. That elf was more beautiful and more regal than lord Wharne. She also wore a tiara. Is she royalty? Her clothes glowed in silvery white, contrasting with the green mantle other elves wore.
"H-Hello…" Lily replied meekly as she was intimidated by the new guest. She looked like a peasant before a queen with her clothes.
“I am a High Elf of Northlangard, Edelweiss. I apologize for summoning you so suddenly in the evening. So, are you the one who received a magic blessing? Do you remember the voice of the gods? Do you know which god gave you their gift?"
"Huh? Ah… Yes. It was Ares. I also have Tale of Fire Magic from him," Lily parroted what I told her. She didn't actually hear the system since I was the one with the blessing.
"I see. So fire magic? And also Tale of Fire. So, I heard you have no lands and are also a former slave?"
"Yes." Edelweiss's gaze looked sharper, as if she found something that she just needed.
"So, would you like to work with our kingdom?" She was so straight to the point that it was refreshing. I think I can trust her.
"Yes. If you can guarantee the life of my friends…."
"And these friends… The catkin tailfolks?"
"Um... No. She recognizes the bandit group we apprehended as friends too." Wharnebald interjected.
"What! Humans?" She glared at Wharne with such intensity that we were taken aback. Shock ran through me as my mana perception suddenly went crazy at her outburst. I checked her with my appraisal. She seemed kind at first glance, but her mana just now indicated she may attack us out of emotion. I need to be careful, or we might get trampled again.

Whoa, a fellow friend with blessings. Her level was far above mine. We need to play our cards right with her. She might become our tutor or outright kill us.
"My apologies. May I see your status? You have a manslayer job, right? I thought I had finally found comrades. Why did you see those humans as comrades." She pondered in bewilderment.
"I do not think that all humans are evil. They are just tricked by nobles. It is them that sinned and not the whole race. Besides, if we want to win the war, it is better to utilize everything. They can be used as farmers or laborers." Lily parroted what I said. I tried to appeal to Edelweiss about making humans into our workforce. I heard that elves are short-handed here. If we proposed managing humans as a labor force, we would become a powerhouse. Mattheus here knew a lot about humans. We had over twenty poor people that wanted to work as mere villagers and farmers. We can do this.
"I see…" She then closed her eyes as her mana began to calm down.
"Please don't peek. It was quite embarrassing." She said with a smile as she opened her eyes. Huh? Did she notice I used appraisal on her? This is bad. I didn't know there was a skill that could detect appraisal!
"What do you mean?" Lily asked
"Since you have Tale of Magic, you must be able to see mana, right? Please don't look at my mana too much." She said while smiling, "I assure you I do not show this kind of attitude often. It just so happens I get agitated easily when humans are involved."
So it was just a false alarm. I am glad. I was so shocked. Seeing someone else status without asking is technically violating their privacy. I also knew she had a manslayer, so she must have also killed humans, despite her being a priestess.
"Hmm… You may do as you wish. But please, make sure that I don't see them. I don't want to see humans roaming on elven lands. Can you do this?" She said while putting on a bittersweet smile. "I thought we could be friends. There were barely any other with magic blessings."
"Are blessings such a rare thing? My previous master's brother also had it." Lily asked
"Well, from thousands of people, only 1 had blessings. Out of ten who received blessings, only one could use magic alongside it. So yes, it is rare." Lhorne interjected. "By the way, this previous master is a human right? Do you know anything about that blessings?"
"My previous master's brother's name is Sylvester. He is very good at using a sword. When we did a mock battle, his sword shined red before striking me…." Lily replied as she recounted her experience.
"Hmm… Sylvester. I don't know about that name, but from your description, is he the one who survived our ambush 2 years ago?" Edelweiss asked while looking at Wharnebald.
"Yes. You might be right."
"We can discuss that later over tea time. It is already late. Now that we have your allegiance, filling manastones should be your job. You will be promoted to Eastern Forest Keeper. It is akin to a baronet or maybe viscount who ruled small settlements. You may keep your humans there. But I remind you once again, those humans need to know that they are not welcome in the land of the elves." Edelweiss stated.
"Okay. We understand. Thank you for your kindness. I will never forget it!" Lily said gratefully. She smiled as this was the first time she asked for something, and it was granted without a fuss.
She skipped over to her inn with Nora in happiness.
