Chapter 41
----------------------------------------
"So, You went to the fort and saw a chance to assault it with just the six of you because they were currently being attacked by the undead?" A commander read our testament. We went for a debriefing yesterday and were called the following day after resting.
"Yes, sir. Lord Lily ordered that we go into the fort and save any prisoners there!" Joseph answered
"While I don't appreciate it that You have disobeyed orders, It was a fruitful effort. I have no complaints about that. But why did you only kill a single human? It is a great chance to burn the entire fort down and get rid of those apes!" Another commander shouted.
"I agree with Lord Lily's decision here. While it was unfortunate that we couldn't get rid of the apes, we did save our kin." Another chimed in.
"Yeah, if we decided to take the fort, it would require us to hold two forts with one of them damaged. It would strain us further. Though it pains me to let those apes go, I have to agree to her decisions." Another commander sighed as he also read the report.
"Very well. It seems celebrations are in order. Next is this one. Damn, Anny and Lisey are requesting to exercise euthanasia law… those humans are really fucked up. This is the third one!" The commander frowned as his pretty face frowned, showing total disgust from reading the report.
"What's euthanasia?" Lily asked me. If my language is correct, it is about letting people die thingy, right? But from what he said, it probably meant the girl was asking to be murdered.
"I think the elven girls we just saved were asking to be killed because they felt worthless or shamed or something like that," I answered Lily.
"What?! We can't kill them! What do you mean? After we just saved them, they requested to be murdered?!" Lily shouted not only to me but at the meeting.
"Please mind your language, Lord Lily. We are not killing them." The commander sighed.
Lily then apologized then sat down. She kept fidgeting while the commanders bantered around while judging our actions.
"Okay, our final verdict will be that Lord Lily did not conduct any lapse of judgment during the scouting mission. Despite their small size, the scouting team managed to save two elven kin and three tailfolk kin. This is a great honor; thus, we shall commend Lord Lily for her heroic actions. This deed will be forwarded to the high council for acknowledgment. Thank you for your attention. You may be dismissed." The commander gave a long-winded speech and finally freed us.

"Lhorne! Joseph! Where are those two elves?" She said with passion in her eyes.
“Umm, Lord Edelweiss should know. She is the high-ranking female elf here." Joseph said while looking unsure. Lily then ran to Edelweiss' room in the blink of an eye.
"Lord Edelweiss! Are we really going to kill the elves we saved?" she asked. The two elves in question were there with her.
"Ah, you are Lord Lily. My name is Anny. I humbly thank you for saving me in that peril. My life as that noble's pet is now over."
"My name is Lisey. We are just ordinary elves. Though we had beauty, unfortunately, we had no luck as our beauty was wasted as that pig's pet." Anny and Lisey bend over to show their respect.
"Are you--" I stopped Lily in her panic.
"Lily, calm down. First, we need to greet them, then offer some tea or cookies before we talk this over." I advised. She then breathed in and out before started talking.
"My name is Lily. I heard you applied for euthanasia law. Is that correct?" Lily smiled as she sat down with Edelweiss and the elves. Edelweiss' face hardened then she nodded.
"Yes. I have lost everything. My fiance, my dignity, and also my family. Though Lord Edelweiss has promised to grant me work, I shall refuse her, for I do not want to be a burden." Lisey started crying. Anny also chimed in.
"We thanked you, Lord Lily. Your name will be etched forever in our graveyard and in our souls. We acknowledge that you have saved us and returned us to our kin. However, now that I am defiled, nobody desires me. Even if I got accepted, it would be in vain." Lily tilted her head as if confused at their word.
"What do you mean?" She asked
"Lily… how should I say this in direct language? Elves view non-virgins extremely negatively. They would be ostracized even if I forced them into a job in my manor. That is what happened to the elves you saved too."
"You mean they are dead now?" Lily could feel her anger rising. I have no idea why but Lily was fuming.
"Melthia's family are fine. Her parents are husband and wife. Melthia herself is still a virgin, thus spared from the horrendous fate that befalls others. However, of the two elves you saved before,.one of them has applied for euthanasia law, and we have executed them. I could not stop her. The other is still my maid at the moment, but she might join them soon." Edelweiss nodded. Revulsions boiled down from within Lily.
"Why? Why are you guys giving up?" Lily screamed. "I was a slave too! I have been abused too!"
"Lord Lily. Why are you angry? We apologize if our actions made it seems like what you did was pointless. We would still honor you as our savior. You need not worry about it."
"That's not it! I don't care about that! I just want you to live! I have saved you, yet you want to die! That's why I am angry!"
"Lord Lily…" They tilted their head, not understanding something.
"Shiro… what should I do?" She whispered silently to me while nodding down. Why Was she crying? Why shed tears? They wanted to die, so why help them? This was what they wanted, right?
"Hmm… You can't change their personality. This is their customs."
"I don't want them to die…." She said while sobbing. "This country will be our new home, and the elves will be my family!"
I sighed inwardly. I wanted to support Lilt, but I had no idea how to do it. If it was just not letting them die... I might have an idea about it.
"Well, in that case, how about if you charge them with debt, let's say a year in our village to work honestly. It was an elven community that rejected them, right? Just move them to our community, then! Though this might just prolong their suffering." I answered.
Lily's face turned bright at once. "Thank you, Shiro. A few moments is enough for me!"
