Chapter 46
----------------------------------------
The following day came in a blink of an eye. Nothing happened while we were in a fort, and Edelweiss formed her entourage and left the fort in an orderly manner.
As we followed her, she started to doze off, and another tailfolk held the reins of her horse as we strolled slowly through the wilderness back to Regoia. We are back in a city called Reminiscence without any delay.
“The night in this city was beautiful and fun!” Lily said. She spent another gold on buying kebabs from some elven food stalls. The city was like it went into a festival, with light pouring out from every food stall and shop that still sold their wares in the middle of the night. Even children can still be seen playing in front of the inn we stayed at.
Our village frontier was deserted at night. When the sun set, all human activity ceased, and not a single human came out of their house. However, this city has leeway to use feystones for their lamps. I wonder how is Regoia’s nightlife would look like. Edelweiss is there, so I assume it will be more or less the same.
“Greetings, May I know your name? That clothes look incredibly fancy.” An elf greeted us politely. However, his face doesn’t show a single bit of respect.
“My name is Lily.”
“Why are tailfolk wearing noble attire?” he asked. He now used an interrogative tone as opposed to the previous polite one.
“Because I am a noble? Lord Edelweiss said so.” Lily tilted her head. She was impervious to his intimidation and was puzzled instead. Long gone was her meek attitude of nodding and accepting punishment.
“Wait. Are you the real deal?” Another elf stopped him.
“Yes. My name is Lily, and Lord Edelweiss and Lord Ghander from Hoeth said so.”
“No. We know Lord Lily of tailfolk kin. But we don’t know if you are that Lord Lily.”
“In that case….” As Lily wanted to guide them towards our inn, I asked her in silence, Who are they that they asked us out of the blue? They aren’t soldiers.”
“I don’t know, but the inn is nearby anyway. Let us get this one clear.” Lily commented, and when he got a confirmation from the innkeeper, we were let go quickly by the two elves.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“In that case, we apologize for our disrespectful tone.” he bowed while motioning for his friend to do the same. We can see that he complained, but his voice grew smaller.
“Is it just a misunderstanding? Are there any nasty tailfolk impostoring us?” I wondered at their suspicion.
“Maybe..”
“They are not used to seeing nobles walking alone on the street like you, Lord Lily….” A tailfolk waitress commented to us. “Sorry for my disrespectful tone.”
“No, it’s fine. Thank you!” Lily smiled at the tailfolk.
“You are welcome. As expected, fellow tailfolk are different, aren’t they.” She giggled but quickly returned to her calm behavior and bowed to us while leaving.
A familiar elf girl was walking down the street, but I have no recollection of ever meeting her. She walked down the street while humming. Her blonde hair was typical elves, and her clothes were a nice white shirt and pink skirt. Her hair was straight while her face exuded natural beauty devoid of any makeup. I tried to cast an appraisal just to be sure, but the result was shocking.
Name: Edelweiss
“Isn’t that Lord Edelweiss?” I muttered. I recast my appraisal, and it returned the same thing.
“Really? She looks just like normal elves. Ahh, the clothes really skewed her appearance.” Lily said as she came nearer to the girl in question. She sniffed her a bit and greeted her.
“Lord Edelweiss, is that you?”
“EEK!” She yelped while looking at me. “W-who are you talking to. I-I am not a lord….”
Is she playing dumb? Ahh, it is that template where the rich girl wore a disguise to mingle in the city. She looks really experienced with that too. I bet she had used this method several times. Nothing wrong with it. Lily was a lord for a few months, and I already found her life to be incredibly tiring. It is okay to have fun once or twice.
“Shiro?” Lily tilted her head. She was confused as to why Edelweiss seemed to not recognize her.
“Nevermind, Lily. Let her have her fun. As long as nothing happened, she could walk and enjoy the city as much as she liked.” I answered.
“Okay! See you later.” Lily smiled as she waved at Edelweiss. “Don’t sleep too late, so you don’t fall asleep from your horse tomorrow. We still had two days to return to Regoia!”
“W-Wait!” She soon stopped us and brought us to an empty corner.
“H-how did you know?” She asked us. Her stuttering showed how panicked she was.
“Well, I didn’t know, but when I got closer to you, you smelled the same as Miss Edelweiss.” She sniffed again. Did tailfolk has that extra sense skill? It wasn’t in the system. This game is broken!!
“I should have put on different perfume! This is the third time… I should not have forgotten to bring that perfume with me. Never mind that! Lily, please don’t tell anyone, okay?” She smiled.
“Sure!”
“Wait! Let us go with her! This is the template for which she may get kidnapped by some mysterious organization! We need to guard her.” I petitioned Lily as she was about to leave Edelweiss alone.
“Miss Edelweiss, May I accompany you? I don’t know anything here except food stalls.” Lily tried to make excuses to accompany her.
“Oh, sure! Let me bring you to several entertainment districts!” She said. She guided us to a park, then played a game where you throw a ball into hoops, then mock archeries with a clearly modified bow that can’t shoot straight. And so on,
In the end, nothing happened to us on that day as we returned late to our inn.
