Chapter 52: Synctail Academy Part 1

Chapter 52

----------------------------------------

“I am tired….” Lily whined less than a week after opening the town hall and becoming a de facto owner of Edenthal Region.

“I am the one that’s working. Why are you complaining!” I shrugged her complaints. Lily could not read; thus, all administrative work fell to me as her tail. Instructing her to hold the pen and sign the papers was difficult.

“I don’t want to be a lord….” Lily whined further.

“You want to let other tailfolk become a slave forever?”

“Shiro. You are a meanie!” Lily whined further. Crocodile tears formed in her eyes as she tried to escape the tedious administrative work.

“Lily! Here is your school uniform!” Mattheus brought up our package. Sinctail was a boarding school in Regoia, and they sent us a letter yesterday. They told us to arrive there with our uniforms on.

“The uniform was stunning. It looks like noble attire. It even has a brooch on it.” Nora commented. The uniform was a green capelet, a white shirt, and a green skirt. I thought they would be more simple.

“She attended the Lord’s curricula. That’s why her clothes also needed to match.” Lhorne said. He declared that we may use this uniform on formal events by changing the brooch with our own emblem. In fact, almost every young noble attended formal events and gathering this way.

“Ugh….” Lily’s face twitched in disgust, “The money….”

Our noble attire was already expensive and completed with armor, and now the school has charged us with the same uniform. I tried to calm her down as we still needed two noble attire anyway, just in case one of them was torn when fighting monsters.

“When you graduate from that school, please teach us the basics, okay? I also wanted to be able to read and write!” Nora said.

“Nora, I think you will have to accompany Lily there. A lord needs attendants. I will pick two other tailfolk attendants for Lily when she arrives there.” Lhorne said

“Wait. The school forbids irrelevant people from attending, right?” Lily quickly retorted.

“That’s true. You have no choice but to find students who want to become your retainers. I am sure many tailfolk will want to become your retainer since you are so popular there.” Lhorne shrugged his shoulders.”

“Okay.”

“Hmm… now that I am leaving for synctail academy, can I leave this region to you?” Lily asked.

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

“Of course. I will do my best to ensure this region survives. Please study and make some connections so we can expand our region and trade with others. The standard course would be about four years there. This region could handle that long.” Lhorne smiled.

After that, we load everything into bags and saddle them into Lily’s horse. Because we are technically still in elven territory, we could not appoint Mattheus as a security officer, so that position went to Nora instead. Lhorne was in charge of taxation with Jack, while Lisey and Anny handled general affairs and receptionist.

“Alright. Anny, Lisey, I need to go to school, okay! I leave this region in your capable hands. You don’t have to interact with Jack or Mattheus, but I hope you will consider it to handle the trauma. Lhorne will handle everything related to the government while I am out.” Lily waved both of them and bid farewell

“Thank you, Lord Lily!! You are our pride! Do your best!!” The tailfolk people waved us goodbye as Lily rode her horse to Synctail.

The journey was smooth. No monster could face Lily in this region. A few goblins and orcs appeared here and there, but I killed them with magic.

You have leveled up to level 20.

I divided it equally for strength and dex for Lily while I focused more on INT. Our levels are linked, but our status points are not. It is like we got two levels instead of one. I could wield a sword, but it was clumsy. The most I could do was sneak stab and wave the blade to deflect incoming attacks.

“I wonder if I should help you fight with a sword or focus on magic?”

“Hmm… I think you should focus on magic. But make sure that you could use daggers or short swords to make sneak attacks like Nora. Because of blessings, our skills are far above hers, but her sneak attack with the tails is dangerous right?” Lily answered.

“Okay. I will put some on strength later on our next level-ups.”

“That’s Regoia! Now on to Synctail Academy!” Lily pumped her fist.

We arrived in front of the academy and were welcomed by tailfolk guards. The elves then came out to greet us. We were then escorted into a single hotel-like room in the academy. And she then started the briefing.

“Welcome to Sinctail academy. My name is Lithe, the headmaster here. As you are a lord, this will be your dormitory until we see you fit to attend Lord’s curricula in the capital of Hoeth.” Lithe explained while pouring us tea inside that expensive room. “The curriculum you will learn here consists of sword, magic, reading, writing, and basic etiquette. Are there any questions?”

“Do I have to stay here? Is this the standard room for everyone?” Lily frowned in disgust. Shoving a poor man with such an expensive hotel room would rub them the wrong way. Lily was so giddy about touching the expensive-looking tea set out of fear of breaking them.

“No. This is a room for Lord candidate. The room required a lounge for a tea party and a bedroom. Tea parties and showcasing your collection are important to nobility; thus, you need a more spacious room than others.”

“I see.”

“May I know your hobby? Maybe you could display your favorite swords or especially good feystones that catch your eyes on that cupboard. That way, this room would not look so dreary.”

“I have this saber. It was quite good.” Lily showed Lithe her saber.

“This is quite a work. But it was scratched all over the place.” Lithe frowned. “The design was also minimal, with quite a few decorations. This saber was also quite dirty at the ornaments in the handle.”

“I still use it, after all.”

“Oh, this is an actual sword?” Lithe widened her eyes while looking surprised. “So, this is a practical sword that Lord uses. I see.”

“Wait, how could she didn’t know about such a thing? Is this academy okay?” I thought while looking at the melancholy gaze of the elves.
