On the back of the huge land wyrm, the boys continued forward without slowing down. None of them displayed any hints of fear or suspicion. The five men barring their way stared with disbelief. The face of their leader twitched, “Are those young boys truly without fear?”
They felt their blood burn from being slighted by mere children and the obvious chief in their group, a tall and lean man with greying hair, and shouted, “Halt! Aren’t you boys brazen?”
Coming down this path without any adults, isn’t it too dangerous?”
“Dangerous? You mean from people like you?” Alan replied calmly.
“Hahaha! Exactly. Dangerous people just like us!” When the tall man said that his face turned serious and his laughter died, “If you know that then why do you still come close?”
The only reason they had not sprung into action immediately is because of how calm these boys are. That calmness reeks of trickery, and they dared not make a hasty decision. These veterans did not survive so long by being foolhardy.
“You are only five, and we have six. Why should we fear you? Now tell us, why are you blocking our way?”
The killers almost laughed when they heard Alan’s words, “Only five?
These inexperienced little twerps really believed there are only five of us since that’s all they could see. Bwahaha!
Looks like they felt confident dealing with five B rankers, that’s actually quite impressive for their age. Ohhh, I love to see their faces when they find out there are three times as many of us! They are so naïve it is almost adorable.”
“Wow, the young generation nowadays are quite arrogant. Well, I’ll be honest with you. Some of you have no hope of returning after coming here, and this is all because you had offended someone you must not.”
“You’re from the Devilheart family?”
“W..what? You knew?” the five guys all look visibly disturbed. A couple of them shivered involuntarily, and all of them paled.
“Only someone like Calculus can be so petty,” Edward hissed.
The men were struck by anxiousness and turned pale. As convert agents, they cannot afford to have their background exposed.
Their mission had changed. It is no longer workable to allow anyone to escape, even Jones, but if they killed the young heir apparent accidentally, the Solitary Blades clan would pursue the matter relentlessly.
Even the stronger Devilheart family will need to pay a hefty price if today’s operation was brought to light, and no doubt the failure would be worth more than their miserable lives. With their soul slips in the hand of their superior, they cannot hide nor run away to anywhere.
If their targets were another group of children or even D ranked veteran adventurers, then they would be confident to finish this mission. But all of them had heard the full report of what happened during the one-month long exam, and they are not confident at all.
“Dammit all! We’re in this mess because of that retarded young master, Calculus!”
They felt rather wronged. If not because Calculus ordered them to mock the boys and tell them they had ‘offended someone they must not’, perhaps their backgrounds would not be revealed.
With a grim face, the leader of the group signalled his men with a hand behind his back to move in place. Viciously scolding Calculus in their hearts, they could not let a single target escape.
Of course, they were never told that regardless of the mission’s success, this would be their last job.
The risk of exposure had always been there, but cutting these men off after the mission ensures that nothing will go wrong. The Devilheart family can easily deny any and all involvements.
“Since you know where we are from then we have no need to beat around the bush. Tell us where did you learn your cultivation methods and who is your teacher?”
When the middle-aged man so openly asked confidential information, Kairos smiled and replied, “What if I say that I am the one that created those cultivation methods?”
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
*HAHAHAHAA*
The laughter of the five resonated throughout the creek.
“What nonsense, are you even trying to fool us with? You’re saying that a young boy like you are creating cultivation methods? Are you an idiot or do you think I look like a fool?”
“Oh,” Kairos replied with mock disappointment, “You don’t believe me?”
“Give us your cultivation method right now, and we will let you off,” the man said.
It was an obvious lie.
But Kairos simply nodded and told them his own cultivation methods.
“W..wha…t? The boy really gave us his cultivation methods.”
Cultivation methods are extremely secretive for all practitioners. It means certain death should the methods one practice was exposed because other experts can quickly determine the forte from that method and maliciously target it.
“Third brother, don’t be an idiot, it must be fake.”
Though they couldn’t believe it, they attempted the methods that Kairos gave. Following his instructions, they were shocked to succeed in cultivating a tiny strand of energy, but it quickly disappeared.
“You’re lying!” they cried out.
“I’m not lying. It is just that my cultivation method is simply unsuitable for anyone else.”
“Then how are your friends able to learn it?” the one who spoke almost shouted, with anger in his eyes. Even if you are enemies, mockery is the lowest one can do, and right now they felt indignant at being toyed around with by twelve years old. Their faces went red with shame for naively following the boy’s instructions.
“I’ve told you, I created these methods. They didn’t use mine, each of their cultivation methods is tailor-made to suit only them and wouldn’t work for you.”
“Forget it, boss, they aren’t going to say anything. I’ve had enough with his bullshit. Let’s just kidnap them back, and we don’t have to worry if they don’t speak under torture.”
Their leader nodded, and their group pulled out their weapons. Every one of them is already fuming by this point, and they are eager to fight.
When the guys turned aggressive, Jones stepped forward, “You’re the leader of your group, aren’t you? Peak B ranker. Interesting, you’ll fight me!”
As expected, if there is someone strong to fight, Jones will leap right in.
Kairos also stepped forward, choosing an Entry B ranker as his opponent.
“You’ll make good practice for me,” the boy took out the black-gold Swallow he picked up from uncle Siegfried before leaving the city.
The rest of them, the remaining four boys, formed the Northern star array (Variant) – Northern Swords and faced three B rankers by themselves.
With each of them having three stars or four stars on their badge, means that their combat ability could easily fight against Peak D rankers or even Entry C rankers, but having B rankers as their opponent, they will surely take a beating.
Yet, when the four grouped up against their opponent, they had a relaxed composure.
Nearby the boys, Aisa preened her scales after she brought the baby beasts to a corner to play while the great land wyrm obediently rested on the ground next to them.
“Sword that pierces the heavens and breaks apart the Earth. WORLD SWORD!”
Chanting a shortened incantation, Jones summoned a gigantic sword Ki.
Instead of testing out his opponent, he used a powerful skill immediately at the start, but this is also because he could not hold back against such a high-level enemy.
He raised an arm and chopped downwards. Above him, the sword Ki hovering upright followed his action to the beat and slashed downward at his target.
Seeing the Peak D ranker’s attack, the man who is two major stages above laughed and formed his Ki barrier in the shape of a shield before him. He blocked off the attack easily, however, instead of dissipating into thin air, the sword Ki persisted against his defence.
“What’s this attack, it’s eating away my internal energy!”
While his opponent is hindered by the World Sword, Jones took out a beautiful Meteorite blade, a Xuan Titan rank weapon that was crafted by Siegfried and refined by Kairos. He channelled his Ki into the weapon, and the sword was immediately coated with shimmering white frost. Snow fell from around the blade, causing a thin layer of ice on the ground.
He walked proudly forward.
In the entire clan of the Solitary Blades, none could match the sword his brother gave, and furthermore, he was told it could become stronger by itself. He cannot imagine the value of such a weapon!
“Eat this! Filthy rich tycoon glittering slash!” Jones cried out and charged. Despite how ridiculous the name sounded, he was deadly.
There were two dangerous forces on his Meteorite Steel edge. His internal energy kept the frost runes active creating an invasive cold that slows and numbs an enemy. It is lethal in a fight where the one receiving his blade could die from wounds without feeling anything. The second power is the razor sharp and extremely destructive Origin Energy that burns and eats through the enemy’s body. After all, Ki only the body’s internal strength, but Origin Energy is the source of all the body’s power.
He did a spiral-spin slash towards the confused middle-aged man. The young boy had leapt off the ground, spinning in the air while sending multiple slashes from all angles towards him.
Meanwhile, Kairos was dominating his Entry B rank opponent. His weapon is easily Heaven Beast Rank and at the border of reaching Titan rank. Despite being at a lower rank than Jones’ weapon, it was already a miracle that the master blacksmith could achieve such a level with the materials they found in short notice.
The things they received, including the gifts of sincerity from fellow students and the principal, were not enough to create a higher grade weapon even with Siegfried’s skill. One can see Jones’ position in his clan to possess not just the materials to create a Titan ranked sword, but one belonging to the Xuan grade – a tier higher than Huang Grade Titan rank.
Regardlessly, the Beast Rank weapon is already a huge improvement to his previous weapons, and right now he did not fear to lose to even an Entry B ranker. Having more resources and money does make a huge difference.
His body is encased in the shining white glow of his Ki barrier, Kairos stood before his fallen opponent, courteously waiting for him to stand back up.
