Chapter 45: Soul Slips

Chapter 45: Soul Slips

Thinking back, Kairos realised that there are recent periods of time where he had no recollection, but after thinking about it for a while, he realised there is nothing he could do.

He instead turns his attention to what is important at hand.

"Well enough about dragons for now. It is urgent for us to discuss how to handle the Orc King," Kairos continues, holding the beautiful white dragon by tucking it under his arm. It craned its head and adorably looked at Kairos, and some golden patterns could be faintly seen on the edge of its scales, reflecting off from the orange glow of the torch.

Looking at the young dragon beside Kairos, Snow made her decision.

"Wait a moment, everyone, please listen. I, Snow of the Autumn Blossoms Clan declare, we will acknowledge Kairos right here and now as the chosen one of the Holy Primordial Dragon.

Should anyone be tempted to bring harm to the dragon or attempt to take it away from him, our clan will back him up regardless of consequence.

I will say this beforehand, the dragon itself will choose a person worthy of it, and in all the years in the recorded history in all three realms, those chosen by a primordial dragon become beings like gods.

Reaching the nine heavens, breaking apart the sky the earth and the lake. Their strength unparalleled and their powers are peerless.

We of the Autumns Blossom clan will take the bet that Kairos will also become one such being and take our stance right now."

"Leaf thinks so as well. If a person is destined to become someone so great, then it's better if such a person thinks favourably of us." Leaf says as she nods.

"The Mountain Cat clan have no ambition in such matter. Our clansman has only wished to become the greatest tacticians under the heavens.

If you want to rise above the heavens, go ahead. Haha!

But if you want our support, I don't see why not?" Small says while shrugging, his character is easy-going as ever, and Kairos really enjoyed working with him these few days.

Perhaps among them, only Snow appears slightly more stern and severe, but all of them are good people and sincere in their ways. After spending some time with each of them, Kairos is able to make friends with George's team quickly.

"Then I guess everyone in the tent agrees not to divulge the Holy Primordial Dragon to another soul?" Snow asked, her eyes blazing with gravity like never before.

Everybody nodded in agreement, and without another word they took out a slip of flawless Jade and bite open their fingers, dripping a droplet of blood onto it.

A bright glow appeared on each of the Jade Slip in their hand, and they started reciting an ancient chant:

"By my blood, I give my word to not utter a word about the Holy Primordial Dragon in part or in full, by will or by force, to another soul outside of the ones present in this place at this moment."

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

A golden flash appeared in each of their jades as they spoke the words of ancient promises. From now, their souls are bounded to the Jade Slip, and they each handed their slips to Kairos.

Should any one of them try to speak a word of this, the jade will glow and heat up in his hands, and prevent them from saying even if they want to.

Any time after the jade glowed, Kairos only need to break the jade slip with a little force, and the owner of the Jade Slip will die immediately. This is a form of an unbreakable vow, and they have chosen to do it for Kairos. That is how much they believe in his future potential.

Extremely perplexed by what has happened, Kairos took the Jade Slips into his hands, and he rubbed his head. Alan stood nearby, mirrored his expression. Seeing their mystified faces, the four tacticians realised that they do not even have the most basic common knowledge and had to explain the jade slips to them.

"These Jade slips are simply processed spirit ores with the ability to hold Ki as well as a living being's fragmented soul. We can use it to create miraculous effects like passing down one's techniques to another person or sealing a message within. As long as it is something within the memories of a person's soul, it can be placed within a jade slip.

Also, since we can place a part of our soul within it, this had become a popular method for making unbreakable promises since thousands of years ago."

Hearing that, Kairos felt incredibly touched by what Snow and the rest have done for him.

Even though the pinnacle they talked about is too far away from him, and in his heart, he only wished for a better place for his friends he understood that as cultivators, it is the destiny of all cultivators to try and reach the summit. If there are people who believe in him, then they will become his conviction to walk forward.

After a silent and emotional moment, Kairos finally calmed his heart. Everything felt surreal at this moment. Even now he could not believe that people would treat him with such sincerity.

With the issue of the dragon now put aside, the group discussed the issue of the Orc King for a while.

The Orc King’s existence is the pivot for its entire race. Able to strengthen its people by granting them power and wisdom, when it grows into adulthood, it will be a triple S rank magical beast.

The discovery of an Orc King means that the world they know of will be once again be thrown into chaos.

"Wait, I just thought of something. Wouldn't the instructors be able to listen to our discussion on the Orc King and stop this exercise?" Alan says

"Snow?" Kairos asked as he looked at her. She is no doubt the most knowledgeable here.

"Regretfully, or perhaps, fortunately, the commander's war tents are shielded from outside interference to prevent the other team from using runic crystals to scout out our plans.

This means that even the instructors are unable to see or hear anything inside this tent.

In this regard, I say that we are fortunate because the Holy Primordial Dragon's existence is completely hidden for now.

For the case of the Orc King, we can only send in some reports to the instructors and hopefully they will stop this exercise. I have no idea what is going to happen from now on."

"I see! That's good somewhat I guess. This dragon is going to create some havoc in the school if the others know" Alan says sighing in relief, and even Kairos who is usually cool-headed felt cold sweat roll down his back.

He did not know, but if the dragon really is such a big deal, then things will surely get messy from now on. On their hands there is already the secret of their Soul Force, now another secret popped up that needs to be wary of. The Holy Primordial Dragon is an incredible existence, bound to become a powerful guardian. And at their level, who is to say that no one would be able to shackle this dragon to their purpose?

"We still need to name it. What should we call it?" Kairos asked petting its adorable head.

"Snow," Snow says.

"Isn't that like making you Kairos' pet?"

"So?"

"That sounds wrong!"

"Hah! You're only jealous that the white dragon is suitable for my name. You should find a green dragon then name it Leaf if you are so envious."

"Hmph! Don't call it Snow, the dragon will be sad to have such an unfortunate name!! How about Solar? Its golden patterns on its scale looks radiant and majestic"

"Aisa," Kairos says.

"Haaaah? How did you get that name? And, what does it even mean?"

"Its name means, the inevitable. It told me so."

.....

Over the next three days, the Orcs did not attack, and soon it is already the 14th day of the training exercise.

A light shower of rain is falling on George's camp, and the guys are in a lazy mood.

The Orcs seemed to have disappeared after the first day of attacking yet in Kairos' heart the sense of urgency only grew.

The camp has been fully repaired thanks to the three days they were given, and they even improved it somewhat by adding some hidden spikes on the way down to the moats.

Usually, such traps will be prohibited by the instructors as it could accidentally harm or kill a student, but for days now there has not been any response from the instructors, and they needed to take things into their own hands.

But on this day when their vigilance was worn down by rain, from within the forest, a large group marched. Their green skins were blending in with the woods around them, their footsteps breaking the morning silence as they went towards to the East Hill.

"THE HORDE!"

The panicked yell from the crow nest aroused those resting, as the Orcs poured out from the forest.

The students gathered in all haste by the ramparts. The worst eventually came, as Orcs marched out from the West forest.

The young Orc King stood in front of the army looking directly at Kairos. It felt something different about the boy, though what it is it did not know. But, the more special he is, the more threat he will be to its race as he grows up.

With a loud howl from the Orc King, the Orcs carrying some timbers rushed forward. This time they have brought more than a few wooden bridges.
