“You whelps from the animal farm, why don’t you go back where you came from? The Dark Sword clan will bid 62 White Gold!”
While everyone is laughing, a voice heavy with sarcasm rang throughout the hall.
Among the current clans that bided, the green dog clan was definitely the strongest which was why they dared to bid one White Gold higher than the best offer. This is also a challenge they issued out to everyone, asking who dares to outbid them.
However, not even a second passed, and the Dark Sword clan already took up their challenge and in fact, they also only added an additional White Gold, the same way the green dog clan did.
The Dark Sword clan is obviously slapping to their faces, yet the other clans could not say anything at all since they are one of the Hundred Nobles and are almost as influential as the Devilheart and Angelheart family.
At this time, a loud but familiar voice shouted in response, “The Angelheart, Blue frost and Northern cross families will offer one Platinum. The auctioneer had rightly judged this item’s worth!”
Alucard, representing the three high noble families, had made their response towards the Dark Sword clan’s bid and the entire hall hushed.
It wasn’t that these three great families couldn’t even afford the price of a single Platinum and had to team up for the bid. In fact, they could each offer ten times more without batting an eye. However, they still chose to announce their names together.
The others were not slow-witted to miss the meaning behind his words. Aren’t they already plainly saying that the three families will support the steel sword’s creator?
So what if the Dark Sword clan is a large and powerful clan?
Right now, there are three families of its equal that had spoken out, and they even raised the price by sixty-one percent in a heartbeat! However, the other party was not ready to give up so quickly.
“Hmph, so what! The Dark Sword clan will be taking these ten swords today! We will raise the bid by one Platinum and ten White Gold.”
To quit just because some people announced their interest would be belittling the Dark Sword clan too much. Besides, in an auction, it all depends on who is willing to pay more. If it is a little bit over one Platinum, it is still an affordable price for them.
Granted that the amount isn’t cheap, but just one Vortex Metal weapon cost fifty-two White Gold, and these steel swords are in no way inferior! A testimony of how powerful the inscriptions on them are.
The reason the Vortex Metal sword was sold at such a high price was because of the research value of a new invention by the Angelheart family. On the same line of reasoning, the runes on the steel swords that Kairos created are not only a new invention but one of an unknown grade! Right now, it is just like gambling, if the runes turn out to be a far higher grade, they could get back whatever they invested and much more. One Platinum isn’t too high at all!
Of course, while everyone was hyped up about its possibilities, none had considered if the runes might be beyond their mastery. Immortal grade or Divine grade Runes would be too advanced that even if they managed to get their hands on one, they couldn’t research anything out of it; the intrinsic levels between them are too far apart.
Blinded by the hype, everyone’s eyes started glittering instead. After all, this is only an academy auction, what are the chances of a boy who learned an ancient upper realm rune to appear? Unfortunately, since the bigshots had entered the bidding, the smaller buyers stifled their greed and waited patiently to see how much would the four Hundred Nobles bid. They simply don’t have the funds to fight with such titans. Therefore, they targeted the items on sale at Kairos’ booth.
At this time, Alucard looked at Kairos with a grin, and he called out his bid once again, “We will offer two Platinum for this!”
The Dracula team had never forgotten that their lives were saved by Kairos’ group, and even though it is a large amount for them, they never considered this value to be enough as a repayment. This is merely a form of showing their gratitude to the Snowdrifts. The value of two Platinum are worth a castle.
By jacking up the price, the value of this item will definitely increase in everyone’s heart. After setting such a high benchmark, those that rushed to Kairos’ stall wouldn’t dare to give a low offer.
Nobles and great clans enjoy their game of maintaining prestige. After what Alucard’s group did, even if the shoppers are unwilling to pay an exorbitant amount, they might do so regardlessly so they wouldn’t look bad in front of others.
These are things that Kairos, Jones, Alan, Edward, Jim, and Tommy, wouldn’t know. How much does face worth? Can it feed a starving stomach?
Hearing this price the Dark Sword clan finally quieten down.
“Two Platinum? These young heirs are all mad! Which pill did they eat today, why are they competing so hard with me?” the elder fumed and gritted his teeth.
Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.
Truthfully, it is still affordable for their clan, but wouldn’t they be too brain-dead to take this obvious baiting?
Besides, after this auction, they could still go to Kairos’ booth to browse for goods. Even if ten copies of the runes means that they could have much more researchers work on it at the same time, who knows, perhaps they can use their clan’s name to suppress the others and purchase a few weapons at Kairos’ booth?
Or if they failed to do so, they might place orders with the boy. He never mentioned if he wouldn’t continue selling more in the future.
The elder was ready to give up, however, at this time, a whisper sounded in his ears, “… go ahead…”
Kairos who was curious about the bidders managed to barely pick up some words with his Soul Perception, amongst the many conversations and noises in the hall.
“The Dark Sword clan will offer three Platinum for the ten swords!” a sudden shout shocked the entire hall into silence.
Three Platinum!
Three Platinum is equal to three hundred White Golds, thirty thousand Blue Silvers or three million Green Coppers.
For the five of them who managed to squeeze out only three Green Coppers after pooling all their savings a few days ago, they couldn’t believe their ears.
Alucard immediately frowned, he had not expected the Dark Sword clan to raise the price by that much. Knowing that it is quite illogical to do so, he guessed that there must be someone manipulating things behind the scenes. But just why are they doing this?
“Congratulations Dark Sword Clan. You have sharp eyes to deduce the value of these swords,” Alucard said, loud enough for the entire hall to hear. Even five rich young heirs couldn’t match the price of three Platinum, but since they only wanted to support Kairos, their objective of raising the value of the weapons is already done.
This is not the only venue where they could try and repay a little of the favour they owed, so Alucard decisively withdrew to take a clearer look at this odd situation.
One must say that as the young lord of the Angelheart family, even though Alucard looks brutish with his shaggy hair which he wears like a mane, his decisions are quite delicate and well-calculated. There’s no doubt he earned his status as an heir amongst the many descendants.
The three counts quickly ended, and the ten steel swords were passed onto the winner’s hands, but before anyone noticed, the items disappeared in a flash.
Not long afterwards, these weapons have already been delivered to Lord Yue. It was him who had sent a messenger to ‘advise’ the Dark Sword clan leader to purchase these weapons at all cost.
The hype in the auction hall quickly died down after this bid.
The next few items that went on display suffered a total lack of response. Whenever something is displayed, if it does not have any bids the following article will replace it after ten breaths.
It isn’t that the items themselves are bad, and in fact, a few of them were quite interesting, but unfortunately after the splendorous display and fierce bidding for Kairos’ refined weapons everything else looked bland.
While many students were complaining bitterly in their hearts, Kairos, on the other hand, had a huge grin on his face.
He wasn’t gloating at his gain, but instead, he realised there was a great money-saving opportunity before him!
“Now we will be displaying the item created by Snow and Leaf of the Autumn Blossom clan. This item is an arm guard that they made from the scales of an A ranked water wyrm. The armour piece was imbued with both the frost and water twin elements and will effectively help the wearer resist fire elemental attacks and guard against impact and cuts with its hard surface.
This artfully handcrafted item is verified to be at Beast rank, Huang grade! Bidding will start at two White Gold!”
One must say that even at Huang grade, the price is much more than what Kairos and gang could have afforded a day ago, but today it is different.
“Two White Gold!” Kairos called out. His bidding device had already been credited three Platinum, allowing him to start spending immediately.
In fact, the trade fair has always started with an auction to enable students to have some cash to purchase items and resources that they want from the trade fair.
It is not odd for a poor student to create an item that could be sold for some money and immediately use that money for items on display. After all, the academy provides beginner crafting classes, and anyone could attend as they wish.
For fairness sake, the items displayed on this auction have randomised sequence so that the students who sold an object could immediately use their earnings to make purchases.
In fact, Kairos’ team who have scored extremely well during the exam are actually placed at the latter part of the auction because their turn was randomly picked to be so.
If their item were to be placed at the front, then they would have the money from the start of the auction, and they will be able to make lots of purchases but alas their luck was not to be.
This, however, is a fortunate thing for the other students. If Kairos’ item is the first one that had appeared, then no one would be able to receive a good price. After all his steel swords were too earth-shaking in comparison.
Just as expected, because of everyone becoming bored with the items on display after seeing Kairos’ refined weapons, not many people bided for the water wyrm’s armguard.
After a few unmotivated bids, Kairos received the armguards at two White Gold and eighty Blue Silvers which he immediately transferred to Tommy who held it like a precious baby in his arms.
“Tommy, this armguard will allow you to catch naked blades. It even fits well with your leather studded gloves!”
“Hehehe! Thank you captain” Tommy said so excitedly that he gave the armguards a long smooch to demonstrate his emotions.
Snow and Leaf who are sitting nearby involuntarily shuddered when they saw what Tommy did.
When he treated the armguards so preciously and cradled it like a baby, somehow a strange thought entered the minds of both sisters: They are like the mothers of the item……. and Tommy is the father.
They shuddered once more at that incredibly creepy thought.
A few more items flowed into Kairos’ pocket as the auction continued with a boring atmosphere, despite the auctioneer’s honeyed tongue trying to reeve up the crowd.
Soon he happily made purchases totalling seventy White Gold! This is the most amount of money he had ever seen and the most amount he had ever spent.
His heart pounded like a crazed donkey, and it took him a lot of effort to calm himself down.
His five brothers including Jones all have the same look of excitement on their face. The other students that turned their sight over saw this row of boys with terrible visages and started shifting their butts away.
Too scary! What’s with all their expressions?!
Although Jones has become the heir of his Solitary Blades clan, in his heart, he is still the same penniless boy that lived in that shabby hut together with Kairos. Seeing the massive amount of money flowing in and out of Kairos’ pockets, he couldn’t keep his mouth from twitching and his brows from frowning. At the same time, he is barely keeping his eyes from rolling back. No wonder others were frightened.
Furthermore, the other five boys are making the exact same expressions next to him. It was as though they had practised beforehand and started displaying their talents in the hall.
All who saw them wanted to flee.
However, despite their excitement, Kairos had not wasted a single cent. Each item he purchased was something they needed, and the prices they paid for were all worthwhile. The other bidders might not have an interest in what he bought, but he had memorised the entire auction booklet before coming!
With his photographic memory, he could recite the names and abilities of each item on bid today! Although the sequence of sale was randomised, he was counting them down in his mind the entire time. Finally! His efforts are showing results.
Kairos was so excited, he was doing his best to not faint right away. He would be the first person in the academy’s history to go down because he was too elated from buying stuff.
One must say that the purpose of this auction has been done splendidly, so far: To help the students sell their crafts and alleviate the academy of its permanent lack of training resources.
This event also encourages the poorer students to work harder in the crafting line since their empire lack many items and only the more impoverished people will resort to giving up in their own cultivation to survive.
The Empire even thinks that the earlier those people give up cultivation and focus on crafting, the better it will be for their country since those talentless, penniless, people will only be a waste of their resources.
This is the sort of thinking that Kairos could not agree with, even though he knew long ago how Saint Empire operate. After all, he is someone from the more destitute caste and a victim of the constant lack of training resources.
While he was grinning like a wolf looking at a sleeping deer, the auctioneer’s sweet voice cut off all his thoughts from his mind, “The next item on display is created by Calculus of the Devilheart family.”
