After assimilating the powers of a devil into himself, the assassin is now filled with violent tendencies. His Ki now emits a wicked and pervasive filthiness that devils have.
Such dark powers are well-known to taint everything around. Seeping into the surroundings, it will turn the ground into blight land, a place where the dead rises and evil prevails. Offsprings of the devil-possessed will become demons that retain some unholy traits combined with the abilities of the species that was demonised.
Fortunately, the demonic offspring do not have a devil’s soul and could neither regenerate infinitely nor defile the land.
Furthermore, unless the progenitor of a demonic line is around to command them, they are no different from other beasts. It was for these reasons and the fact that there are too many that demonic creatures had not been wiped out.
Facing such an enemy, even if he is technically only a half-devil, Kairos had a grave expression.
“Northern Star Array!”
The others, fully knowing what Kairos intents stared at him frightfully. This is the setup to fight against an overwhelming enemy by going one-on-one!
Looking at Jones’ complexion that is rapidly becoming paler, they know that only Kairos could lead the fight now.
The guys dutifully followed his instructions, at this time they are not father and son, master and disciples, or childhood playmates, but brothers-in-arms.
In a battle, there’s no time to prop questions or explain combat strategies, but immediately follow the instructions of the leader.
Right now in this place, despite their age and status, they followed Kairos.
His presence rapidly grew stronger, and his aura as a battle-honed captain engulfed the rest, causing even the non-combatants to feel less fearful of the devil.
“Follow me into battle!” Kairos roared tremendously and charged forward like an arrow the seventeen fighters tailing him a mere step behind.
“Tsk tsk tsk… you guys sure are fearless. Foolish, brainless, and suicidal, but brave. I’ll teach you thoroughly that fear is a good thing. When you’re hanging like a trophy with your bodies tattered with worms chewing through your bones, yet couldn’t die… You’ll understand my words.”
Scratching his behind, the assassin met their attack with the point of his pinky. His now-elongated and sharpened nail struck Kairos’ strengthened Swallow with a metallic pang.
Instead of backing away after the strike, they remained locked in a clash of power. The force of a single lesser devil opposed the combined strength of eighteen top fighters, but, it was the latter group that faced quaked and trembled.
While sweat rolled down their backs, on the other side, the assassin looked extremely relaxed. His standing posture was worse than non-practitioners, and while fending off their consolidated powers, he never stopped scratching himself.
With a great yawn, he looked at the eighteen fighters with malice in his eyes, “How pathetic.”
The assassin could feel his enemies’ power waning quickly, in the first place, there was no contest to this result.
Assailed by unceasing torrents of demonic powers, the guys could feel themselves being strained to their limits. It felt hopeless to continue this battle, but once they are locked in a contest of inner strength, they cannot stop until a winner appears.
If they stop suddenly, their Ki will reverse, and the powerful energies they are sending out will collide with the Ki that’s trying to return to the Dantian. It would be worse than setting off firecrackers in their meridian channels, and most likely, deadly.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Moreover, they have to withstand the enemy’s demonic assault at the same time.
It would be worse than losing. At least, if they used up their Ki and were defeated, they will only be taking on the enemy’s attack.
Once they are locked in a power contest, they can only fight it out till the bitter end.
The teen looked gleeful as he saw them tremble with exhaustion, “How moronic you guys are. He asked you to charge, and you obediently followed to your deaths? I’m really impressed by your limitless stupidity!”
As he was gloating, his guard finally dropped to an all-time low. With his overwhelming demonic energy, he can afford to look down on his enemies. Besides they are extremely drained, to the point where they will automatically keel over on their own even if they managed to find a way to stop this battle.
At the same time, the devil in him was thrilled. Such arrogance in its host was sending it plenty of negative energies, and in return, the lesser devil gave up more of its twisted powers.
The devil and its host did not notice that at this time, Kairos secretly pulled out a small slip of yellowed papers.
It was a fatal mistake.
Both the lesser devil and its host felt their powers disrupted and turned aghast. Absolute Void Talisman!
Even devils fear.
For a one-way blitzkrieg of their energies, this sudden change in directions within the meridian channels is not different from self-destruction.
With a huge cry of searing pain, the teen flew backwards into the other side of the building.
All the while, they could hear loud explosions coming from his body.
Contrary to a blind feeling of superiority, his negligence was due to the sheer impossibility of using Ki and activating a talisman while they are locked in a power battle.
When a contest of Ki happens, every strand of energy within one’s body must head in the same direction to fend off the foe, so how could one still control one’s Ki towards another outlet?
It would be trying to jump forward while wanting to jump backwards at the same time. Not even Kairos could not do such a thing.
However, there are three separate entities within his body, the sentient ancestor dragonlings made of his refined Ki. While two are using all their powers to fight the assassin, the last one activated his time-space ring, took out another Absolute Void Talisman, and activated it.
Due to the sudden disruption, the assassin was crashed by his own Ki as it retracted violently back into himself. All the meridian channels in his body cracked and twisted, a fragment of a second later, the combined powers of the 18 flooded into his body like sharp razors.
The Northern Star Array was created to maximise the output of the entire team’s Ki in one man, unlike its variation, Northern Swords that specialises in the transference of Ki.
This formation sacrifices versatility to make their attack firm and unyielding, even the Triple S ranker who was caked in the devil’s abominable powers was not confident to take a hit without properly defending himself.
Unfortunately, the enemy already thoroughly smashed himself before eating their full power.
More unfortunately, the True Devil Turning Pill did not fully release the lesser devil to demonise his flesh but replace his Ki with stronger unholy energy.
With power greater than his limits running rampant in a weak Triple S ranker’s flesh, it was already a recipe for trouble, yet instead of feeling danger, thanks to Kairos’ challenge, he was fully immersed in battle and enjoyed the rush of overwhelming power!
He felt a thrill like flying at full speed, but Kairos pulled up a wall called the Absolute Void for him to crash into.
The result was needless to explain.
The assassin was dying once again. He was so much stronger than his opponent but failed so miserably just because he was out-smarted. Not once, but twice!
No matter how he wished to dispute the truth, he knows that he had been an utter moron for losing, and the pain in his heart outstripped even his broken body.
“Wh..why..w… whhhyyy! I’m retarded.”
A heart-wrenching cry mixed with heavy sobbing and whimpering of pain came from the twisted mess that the assassin had become.
He couldn’t accept his loss.
It was worse than killing him outrightly, worse than being tortured physically, he felt shamed beyond his limits.
Even the lesser devil felt ashamed for him, and it only made him cry even harder.
“An evil existence is pitying me!?”
Of course, it wasn’t that the devil had actual empathy. It was a condescending pitying towards him, as though it felt astonished at how feeble-minded its host was that it couldn’t help but give a hopeless sigh. More accurately, it was cursing its own luck for having such a host.
It did not bother to conceal its thoughts, and the sobbing turned louder all at once, like a child that excitedly unwrapped his birthday present to find an avocado.
Probably, worse.
At this time, a strange yet formidable power stirred within him. His entire being throbbed, and the ground he stood cracked as the air trembled. Torrents of power gushed out from within and started flooding his veins assailing him like a hurricane. He roared out in pain as it awakened, then, the seals binding the lesser devil cracked.
