Chapter 91: Combat Room (Part 1)

The staff member updated the principal with everything that had happened so far, and while this is happening, there was a strange – almost respectful – silence in the room as the young students waited to hear the principal’s thoughts.

For these twelve year olds to be patiently waiting was an amazing thing, but even Calculus stayed quiet hoping that perhaps he could find out from this the reason why he had lost at the hands of this peasant boy.

“…you’re saying…. Unmeasurable? … and…

WHAT? … No wait.. he indeed is D rank and not because of some particular technique? … and cultivation path?... H…HEAVENLY PATH?.....

The crystal did not glow? ….. no…it was just dull.. but.. couldn’t be…

Runic symbols? … this boy…”

The principal’s discussion with his staff could barely be heard by the rest, but the expressions on his face were entertaining to watch as the look of disbelief rapidly became more exaggerated by the second.

The results from the testing crystal were absurd. Despite hearing what happened twice, the principal felt he couldn’t wrap his brains around things, and the staff member promptly gave up and gave him a recording crystal.

This data crystal is born of the same stone as the measurement crystal and will receive the information of whatever that was scanned by the huge black jewel.

The principal quickly sent his intent into the small stone and activated it.

Bloodline: Underwhelming

Cultivation talent: Peak mortal’s way, the Heavenly path

Strength of soul: Failed to measure

Cultivation level: Entry D level energy source.

Ki purity: Failed to measure

With this sort of results, even the principal does not know how to assess Kairos.

Usually, regardless of what type of results a person has, as long as the bloodline is poor or below it would limit the future of that person’s cultivation.

But every genius of the Heavenly Path that did not die before their time had successfully become incredible beings that transcended their mortal shells and went into the upper realms.

And, not only is Kairos on the Heavenly Path, his soul strength caused a large crack across the surface of the crystal. When the staff member told the principal that the crystal nearly shattered, the latter almost fainted.

For such a thing to happen during the examination only means that the power of his soul was too much for the crystal to contain and needed so wide an opening to escape.

However, anyone with such a mighty soul should not have such weak bloodline.

“Kairos…” the principal spoke, and immediately everyone in the room gave him their full attention.

“Your soul power is… impressive. Perhaps one of your ancestors had been an extremely powerful warrior for you to inherit such strength. But I suspect, that person is at least a half a dozen, possibly even as far as ten generations back, and your bloodline has already severely diluted since then.”

Those in this room immediately started murmuring about their own thoughts on this subject. Even Kairos’ friends suggested to him to check with his father if any of his ancestors were famous.

The principal told them to quieten then continued, “Your cultivation speed is commendable, but we are unable to measure your Ki’s purity. My guess is that because your bloodline is so poor, it affected on your energy purity.

I advise you to train hard on your foundation and create a stable platform for yourself to cultivate. This will prove to be useful to you in the future. Otherwise, you will only meet blockade after blockade as your cultivation increases.”

Looking around the room, the principal noticed a few interesting students that are about to take their turns for the aptitude tests. Even as someone who had seen countless test results before, he couldn’t stop himself from feeling excited to know how they will turn out.

Especially the growth of Jones is a huge subject matter for the upper echelons of the school.

It is geniuses like them that determines the future of the Empire, and the royal family have prepared great rewards for any academy that properly develop these young talents.

“Kairos, you go ahead to the next part of the test while the rest of friends take their turns. Enter the combat room behind,” the principal spoke politely to Kairos, and the other students all heard it.

They dispelled that thought in their mind that Kairos’ future will be limited by his extremely poor bloodline and started to reassess him.

If the boy honestly has no future, then the principal would not have treated him so cordially to the point of fawning, and everyone here knows how differently their headmaster treats those he deems inept.

Kairos nodded his acknowledgement and walked to the back of the room where the door is. By now, his mind has already wholly blanked out by what had happened.

If he could be prompted that this would have happened, he would have tried to hide his abilities no matter what. To falsify the outcome is possible with enough knowledge of runes and measuring crystals, but he didn’t even have the chance to find help.

Before the door to the combat, room is another tiny gem. This one requires the student to infuse energy into the academy’s badge that every student wears on their arm, in order to open the door.

“Student Kairos recognised. Please enter,” the crystal vibrated and gave Kairos verbal instructions with a voice that sounded neither male nor female.

It is an object that works the same way as how recording crystals could replay videos and pictures or consolidate information by using wind, water and fire runes.

The unadorned door opened for Kairos, revealing an empty solid stone room with a set of metal armour lying on the ground.

When he stepped through into the room, the door behind him immediately shuts and the armour springs to life.

It creaked as it animated into an upright position and then drew a long sword from a sheath tied behind its back.

*Sciiiiiingggg*

The sound of metal against metal rang out in the empty room, echoing sharply in his ears.

With one glance, Kairos has determined that the grade of both the suit of armour and the sword itself is at Titan rank, Huang Grade.

“HAHAHAHAHAH A MORTAL! HAS THE TIME OF THE YEAR FINALLY COMETH?”

The empty suit of armour is a puppet possessed by a spirit. This is a fact that all the students know before they came for the aptitude test, but no one knew that the spirit can talk.

Most spirits that dwell in armours are merely low-grade spirits that are unable to converse because Titan ranked equipment are unable to host a Greater Spirit. But this spirit, in particular, is a metal elemental spirit that would not break the vessel it is in.

“SHALT WE BEGIN WITH THY LEVEL?”

“Spirit of metal, cease your shouting. Your voice cut my ears,” Kairos said flatly. His words were neither arrogant nor obsequious but spoken in a matter-of-factly way like one would say to his equal.

The Greater Spirit of metal is not a being that can be said to be equal to young human children, yet at this moment it did not think to do anything else but follow the child’s words like a command.

“I did not realise who you are Lord. My apologies, Herr de We...”

“Silence,” a voice that sounded like thunder pouring down from the heavens reverberated through the chamber.

Before its words were finished, Kairos seemed to have lost his concentration for a moment, and when he refocused and looked at the greater spirit in front of him, he saw that it had become quiet and is trembling before him.

Somehow, he did not notice that there was a lapse in his memory.

“Hmm? I didn’t say anything that scared it, did I? How strange that a greater spirit is this timid. Well, shall we start?”

The armour shuddered one last time, the boy before him is obviously not the same person as the one that spoke the word a moment ago, though the voice came from the same lips. However, there is no doubt that this boy should not be someone to be messed around with.

It held tightly to the sword in its hand and triggered a bright silver metallic sheen that flashed across its ‘body’.

Kairos seeing that silver coating covering the armour also tried to activate his own Ki barrier.

Although he has already reached D rank and knows the mechanics behind using protective Ki, this is still the first time for him to activate it.

“Let’s see, it should be done this way?”

A beautiful prismatic light escaped his body and floated close to his skin, the small bit of glowing light is quickly joined by more and more of its kind and promptly covered the entirety of his body.

Once the prismatic glow covered him completely, the energy rapidly stabilised, becoming an unbroken and firm shroud on his skin. When the barrier was completed, the bright colours turned pure white and glowed beautifully.

“Isn’t my Ki barrier a bit too bright? I’m not going to do very well in covert operations like this. Ahhh, I’ll figure this out later! Let’s start.”

The boy with a blinding white glow stepped forward and took out his weapon.

Unlike before, he did not need to sheath his Swallow behind his back anymore, but simply summoned the weapon from his time-space ring.

A silver flash appeared on his palm, and as the glow disappeared, it is replaced with a steel weapon with a curved blade at each end. This weapon like the ones sold at the auction house has been engraved with runes.

However, this is an upgraded version with the dragonlings within uninhibited.
