B5, Chapter 5: Enemies (Part 2)

Without another word, Kairos suddenly attacked. However, his target wasn’t the beserked princess but the shamans holding her back.

He lightly aimed a palm strike at the closest person and all the mages fell backwards to the ground like they were hit by a crushing wave.

*Bargh*

The sound of vomit covered everything else. When the Jarl saw all his mages dead on the floor lying in their own a puddle of blood he finally realised that this young man isn’t a person he can command.

“KNIGHTS! Call the Grand Cross here now! Kill this boy, he is an elven spy, he is a traitor of mankind!”

Kairos appeared next to Relestia and with a wave of his hand, the light of a sanctification magic fell upon her, “Salt of the earth, reverse defilement. Turn Undead! Utnr Dea Un’ Vah!”

The devil screamed terribly then suddenly there was peace. It is obvious that the otherworldly being had fled back into Relestia’s soul. Only there will it be safe from being vanquished.

“What… what kind of magic is that?”

The Jarl and his advisors scurried back at the unknown spell Kairos is wielding.

For some reasons unknown they felt deathly fear from that blinding white light.

It isn’t surprising that they do not recognise Holy Magic. After Aisa’s disappearance the Holy Element had been all but forgotten and Kairos is the first Cultivator since the dawn of time to wield its power.

Of course, the quirks of the Holy element is also largely unknown, but as the sole user, Kairos understands their dread.

Those who are evil cannot stand being in the light. They fear their darkness to be revealed and have to face the ugliness underneath.

Kairos held Relestia in his arms and checked carefully. As expected, the seal that bound the devil had a small crack. It must have broken through after the spirit energy ran low.

Suddenly, Kairos felt an immense pressure, like a whole mountain had fallen on him.

Every castle will be assigned a guardian knight of the order of the Templars. The strength of the Templar depends on the castle. For this hero summoning, they sent their best here, a Knight Grand Cross.

The Templar rushed up the stairs with a group of knights, took one look at the situation and shouted at Kairos, “Arrest this man!”

The knights rushed forward in a hurry.

The Jarl yelled, “Kill him, but do not harm the girl!”

The Templar frowned, unwilling to kill a hero that could help them win the war, but the Jarl outranked him and he nodded to his knights.

As the knights moved in towards Kairos and Relestia, the Templar’s crushing aura pinned him down.

A frown broke out on Relestia’s face, and Kairos who was tending to her was furious.

His own aura rolled out to counter the Templar and immediately the pressure alleviated.

The princess smiled faintly, as though she know that she is in safe hands. The lesser knights, however, almost keeled over.

The advisors screamed and trembled. Many started frothing at their mouths and soon were dead.

The mages held on desperately casting clarity spells to protect their minds. Usually, only Circle 9 spellcasters can deal with Class 9 Auras and right now there are two such Aura Masters duelling.

The Templar looked at Kairos with amusement. He could tell that it is the first time the other party is using Aura, and yet there is such strength.

“Not bad, boy. But strength without control is far from enough!”

The Templar attacked without reserve. He took out a broadsword and slashed downwards violently.

Kairos could tell that this strike is made by infusing Aura.

The mages hurriedly threw their magic around as if it were free.

Already shaken by Kairos, part of the castle started crumbling into dust with a loud boom. A hundred metres wide hole appeared on the fifth floor all the way to the first floor.

After the loud crash, the sound of crying immediately filled the air. A dozen attendants lay dead by the Templar’s attack and more are wounded.

“Be quiet, before I execute you all!” the Jarl roared and the sobbing became muffled.

The destruction caused dust to rise like smog and completely covered their sight and the Jarl is anxious if the princess remained alive. He had no interest to toy with a girl after she became a corpse, unlike some of the other Jarls.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Do not worry my lord, the girl is definitely intact. I do not miss.”

“Good. I will reward you handsomely afterwards, knight.”

“Thank you my lord. It’s my pleasure to rid humanity of a traitor. I only regret that we cannot punish this knave properly before his death.”

“I’ll give you another chance,” a steely voice suddenly answered to their shock.

It didn’t sound like Kairos took any damage at all.

In the cloud of dust, they slowly make out his figure.

Holding a lance picked up from a fallen knight, Kairos easily defended against the aura strike.

Kairos is astounded by the strength behind the attack. It is done without even a strand of Ki, yet it displayed such power. If he combined Aura with his Ki, he can hardly imagine how powerful it will be.

The Knight Grand Cross is no less amazed. He had already unleashed all of his Aura into an attack. The Templar have a warrior’s Aura that will greatly increase his prowess according to his fighting spirit.

Even if Kairos has a Class 9 Aura, he is only using wielding it around like a monkey holding an axe – completely leaving things to chance.

Yet, Kairos managed to stop him without the slightest sign of strain.

The knight finally realised that a strange energy he had never seen before enveloped the spear.

“What is that? How can you make a common footman’s spear strong enough to withstand a Grand Knight’s strike!?”

“Grand Knight? I’m unfamiliar with that term,” Kairos asked calmly.

“Aren’t you focusing on the wrong things? Well, all Class 9 Knights are called Grand Knights. We are further divided by our orders. The Knight Templars like me are guardians who are assigned to protect castles, the noblest of acts. The Knight Crusaders destroy the strongholds of the infidels. Twelve of the strongest knights are chosen as Paladins!”

“WHY THE HELL ARE YOU EXPLAINING YOURSELF TO HIM?” the Jarl suddenly roared, “Take him down now, or I will report your incompetency and make sure you are sent to a tiny little cas…”

Kairos’ spear shot out like a whip, and suddenly the Jarl was thrown into the air and out of the castle. He shook the spear lightly and it weaved side to side, knocking the other knights standing around into the walls, unconscious. A single move disarmed almost every fighter in the place.

“I’m sorry for the interruption. Thanks for explaining for me,” Kairos gave the knight a nod and then started putting Relestia on his back.

The Grand Knight looked at Kairos, then at the small figure down at the courtyard. He could tell with one look that the Jarl had landed on his head and is probably dead.

The lord of this castle can only be someone who had the Aura of a King, yet he haven’t even pulled out his sword and already fallen to his death. Pathetic.

After making sure Relestia is hanging on tightly, Kairos tore out a large piece of curtain and wrapped it around her. He tied a secured knot then prepared to leave.

“TREASON! You dare kill the Jarl!” the knight screamed, finally reacting.

“Why is it treason when I do not belong to your flag?”

“Well…,” the burly man stammered.

“The energy coating this spear is called Ki,” Kairos explained to repay the favour.

After saying so Kairos stood up.

“Traitor! This man killed the Jarl! Do not let him leave.

The mages started throwing hexes at Kairos. All kinds of curses that will befuddle, weaken, or harm a Grand Knight flew at Kairos.

A white light appeared on Kairos’ fist as he chanted, “Light of dawn, chase away the darkness on this holy ground! Lyoh Rund G’ Vah!”

The mages screamed as their spells flickered out. As his magic covered the entire castle, Kairos felt revolted by the wickedness in this place.

The Templar laughed gleefully when he saw opening in Kairos’ defence at this instance.

“As expected of a General of a foreign land. It took this much to give me an opportunity,” the knight thought.

In his hands are the broken pieces of a few magic crystals.

“Acceleration, strength enhancement, fast recovery, clarity, mind enforcement, blessing. With so many magical buffs let’s see you take this strike! To kill a hero, I will be famous!”

The Templar held his sword with both hands and struck with ungodly strength. The power he used is more than ten times what he used before, and it caught Kairos unaware on his back.

*PANG*

The metal weapon cracked as if it had struck an iron gate.

The Grand Knight flew away, rebounded by his own strength but Kairos was also pushed back ten metres.

He held his chest painfully where there is now a bloodied red line. Kairos had turned and used his body to shield the princess on his back at the last moment and it caused his internal injuries to worsen.

“Aisa, why do I feel that the master and servants in this place are wicked?”

Aisa poked her snout out of his robes and curiously looked around. Somehow, she and the dragonlings are always unharmed no matter what kind of attack he took. It made Kairos wonder if there are some kind of dimensional magic on his inner robe pockets.

Aisa sniffed the air a little and snarled.

ACK! It reeks! Kairos there are bad guys around!

Kairos rolled his eyes at the belated response, but since the holy dragon confirmed his feelings, there is little need to hold back.

He stepped into thin air. Everyone who saw that had googly eyes.

“How can he be flying?”

“Is he using levitation magic?!”

“Isn’t that a really high level wind magic?”

Of course, Kairos didn’t cast any spells. With his cultivation now at Entry S rank, it wasn’t difficult.

Still maintaining the spell: Holy Ground with his right hand to guard against hostile magic, he lifted his left with his palm open.

“Immolation Rain!”

That day, the human nations of Axis Mundi saw for their first time a rain of death.

Thousands that the holy element identified as abhorrent beings imploded where they stood, but there are also those who were spared – mostly the young children.

A few survived by their own strength and more by dumb luck.

The heroes stared at the death and destruction all around, unable to believe just how powerful Kairos truly is. The person with the lowest magical talent and ridiculed can in fact easily step on them like they are bugs.

The knights that are their instructors and even a Templar was thrown about like rag dolls.

They had survived, but only because Kairos had spared them. The Grand Knight whom Kairos felt is a fool but not truly evil sat beside the fallen Jarl, traumatised.

Richard’s face was completely dark. He was the only hero that the immolation rain targeted. Fortunately, he dodged behind a shield and survived.

“Kairos, I remembered what you did today! One day I will exact repayment from you and all you hold dear. You will kneel before me like the worm you are!”

At a distance, Kairos rapidly flew away from the castle at his top speed. Blood now freely flow down his chin.

It did not prevent a smile to appear on his face as he looked at a weathered old ring in his hand.

In true Snowdrifts tradition, he had cleared out the castle’s treasury before he left. Of the pile of riches, Kairos managed to find a Time-space ring thrown in the corner. It had a rather tiny space and everything within had already turned into dust. He guessed that it must’ve been an ancient artefact and while the people here knew it is a treasure they did not have any Ki to use the ring.

Still, Kairos managed to stuff everything in and took off.
