B4, Chapter 3: Soul Slips

B4, Chapter 3: Soul Slips

After checking all of their Soul Slips, the young man kept the items with a satisfied expression.

"No matter how talented, in the end, you have to bow down to the organisation."

He patted his pocket where the slips are kept, then walked towards the door and said, "Follow me, I will lead you to the Command Hall now."

The boys followed swiftly after him. Because the place is big, the young man started utilising his movement technique again. He looked at Kairos, showing him an expression that he no longer wishes to contest power with the teen. The latter waved his hand. This time, instead of a great power working against the young man, the five teens felt as though every step they took were picked up by a strange energy.

Unfortunately, the static current was not strong enough to bring all five of them along. After all, Kairos is only at S rank. To move a river is already the limit of his Ki, splitting it up into five only makes the teens feel as though they are being brought forward by a slow current.

Tommy waved his hand as well, and his Greater Metal Spirit, Aetnaeus, loan them its power. Together with the static current, the five of them felt carried and rushed forward.

Magnetism; That is the power that the Elemental is weaving to speed up their pace.

When alone, it is already a force to be reckon with, but when combined with electricity, its true strength could appear.

The young man started picking up his pace to lead them, and soon it reached his limit just to keep up. He forgets that without him at the front, the teens would not know where to go. All he needs to do is to slow down, and the five would have to fall in behind him as well.

The young man is a recruit as well, despite being their senior of many years. He had only gone through the fourth, Silent Hall, but not yet completed the fifth, Thoughts Hall. If he had completed his training, he would not be led around by the nose by them as easily.

It might be his job to lead these boys around, but who can say if it wasn't a test for him at the same time?

The group soon reached the end of the series of tunnels in this dungeon. They stood before a black metal door, as the young man went in to report their presence.

The young man stood before an elder in total darkness. Like the Jade Hall, the room is shrouded with an oppressive darkness that made everything unnerving. Even the face of the one addressing him is obstructed.

"Sir, they have arrived."

A voice that one could neither tell male or female answered, "Thank you, please send them in."

"Sir..."

"Is there something else?"

"Permission to speak."

"Granted."

"Sir, there are many incidents that happened along the way... I thought ..."

"I'm aware."

"But, Sir, when they reach our base, they suddenly became very cooperative. This is really suspicious and I'm not sure if that could be trusted."

"They might have resigned to their fate. Our base is designed to have such an effect on those that enters this place."

The young man remained silent.

"Haha, Blue Ghost, don't toy with our recruit," another voice sounded out at this time, "Boy, don't be scared... we know that talented youths like those five have their pride and would not bow their head easily. Your concern has been noted. You're dismissed, let them in."

"Yes Sir!"

The young man saluted and left.

When the door closed, the elders of the Dark Hall looked at each other with menacing looks in their eyes.

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Although only one appeared, there were more than ten in the room at this time, and all of them are already Triple S ranked.

"So, what do you think, Hall Master?"

"Of the five? Or the recruit?"

"The recruit."

"Failed."

"What about you Red Ghost?"

"Failed."

"Blue Ghost?"

"Failed."

"Yellow Ghost?"

"Failed."

"Orange Ghost?"

"Failed."

"Purple Ghost?"

"Failed."

"Green Ghost?"

"Failed."

"Silver Ghost?"

"Failed."

"Gold Ghost?"

"Passed."

"Your reason?"

"He's heart is for the Organisation. Loyalty comes easily with Soul Slips, but the direction of one's heart is another matter. I am the last Ghost, if I fail him, he will expire."

"You forget, I am also one of the nine Ghosts. I also judged that he passed."

"Bootlicker," someone whispered. In the cover of darkness, no one could tell who spoke leaving the Copper Ghost to fume in angry contemplation.

At this time, the door opened.

Before entering, the five boys had been thoroughly checked. Despite having their Soul Slips, it will be a waste if the teens acted rashly and had to be killed.

It wouldn't be the first time either, if someone that just entered the Organisation could not accept their new lives and tried to resist.

The moment the five entered the Command Hall, their Soul Slips were removed from the shelves and placed on top of the observation table. They would be dead before they even mutter a traitorous word.

"Welcome among us, young assassins," the Hall Master declared.

The five teens stood at attention without interrupting. Their looks are perfect for this line of work.

Kairos and Edward had airs of nobility, with elegance and grace infused in their every move. They will be able to lead common men and bring an army to greater heights or to their knees with equal ease.

Charisma is a dangerous weapon when one knows how to wield it.

Alan had a smile that could get past a person's guard.

Tommy has a broad shoulder that invites others to rely on him.

Jim seemed like the playful neighbourhood little brother that needs to be taken care of.

"Good," the Ghost of the Death Hall, the Silver Ghost, noted.

"Your mission," the Hall Master continued, "Is to break through the Northern borders, destroy the Ku Kang army camp, and slay the commander within.

You five will lead three hundred Dark Hall soldiers for this mission, and your time period is six months.

You may leave."

The five of them paled a little at the mission they were given.

The northerners once belonged to five main tribes that are rich in culture, consisting of the Aesir tribe, Vanir tribe, Devas tribe, Asura tribe, and the Shakya tribe.

When their Great Khan, Yesugei-in Temujin unified the savage lands under his banner. The newly established kingdom called itself the Frosthral Feudal State.

They quickly shown signs of seeking expansion. The lush green lands of Saint Empire became their target especially now that tensions are running high between the Silent Lambs Empire and the Saint Empire.

While the Saint Empire is powerful, the Frosthral Feudal State wasn't a pushover either and throwing the Snowdrifts at them is like trying to break a rock by throwing eggs.

"Sir," Edward said, "Permission to speak."

"Declined. You may ask your questions in the Death Hall. Dismissed."

"Sir," Kairos spoke, "Permission to visit the nine halls."

"Considering that you are fresh recruits, I will permit your question this time. In the future, you will ask all questions you have with the other halls. In the Dark Hall you only speak when asked.

Regarding your mission, you may spend your time as you wish. Failure results in death. You may leave now."

The five of them saluted and backed out of the room together with their guide.

When the door shut, the conversation began again.

"What do you think?"

"Of the five?"

"Yes, them."

"Heh heh... I am looking forward to see their expressions when they realise that the three hundred they will be leading are all from their little Snowdrifts group."

"These teens call their group a guild. Unbelievable."

"Should we really have instructed the young heirs of their guild to join the mission?"

"It's an order from the Devilheart family, we have no choice."

"Then we won't be holding those noble families as hostage anymore. Wouldn't they rebel?"

"The last mission succeeded. They no longer fear the other nobles."

"The emperor had been confirmed dead?!

"Worse, there was traces of him being sucked into a spatial gap. He will be crushed into dust. They wouldn't even have a corpse to bury.

"Why have I not heard?"

"Of course you wouldn't. The spatial gaps were planted by the combined effort of the Devilheart experts and the Silent Lamb empire royal guards. Those dangerous voids were spread across all the places that the emperor might flee to, and in the process many civilians were caught in the crossfire.

It couldn't be helped that we have to be extra cautious while checking if a trap caught the emperor."

.

.

.

"What if they actually succeed in their mission? How are we to answer to the Devilheart?"

"You worry too much. They are not soldiers... besides, the Ku Kang army camp is too difficult as a target, and this time, the commander is even more dangerous than Syriong."

"Oh? What's the level of this practitioner?"

"Just slightly below Lord Yue."

"In that case, my worries were pointless. I will take my leave."

"I shall as well."

"Remember to visit the Dance Hall often," an alluring voice spoke and all the men felt a tug in their soul.

The Hall Master helplessly used Ki in his voice to break her spell, "You jest Purple Ghost. We are not that sick of living yet."

The voices ceased, and all of the Ghosts and the Hall Master disappeared.

The suicide mission hasbegun, and time is running out before they even started.
