Chapter 68: Let’s join the trade fair!

Chapter 68: Let’s join the trade fair!

The first years where Kairos and his friends are in do not have any student president but in a few more days they will graduate, and Kairos will have assumed as their student president.

A lofty position that traditionally was taken by the most powerful noble among the students.

“Okay, everyone. Dismiss!

Please remember to submit your application if you would like to participate in the student trade fair that is happening in a week’s time.

I’ll see you all next year. Enjoy your holidays!” The principal said with a smile as he exits the stage.

The following day, discussions were flying all over the school regarding the award ceremony, and the most frequent topic that many of them discussed are about the identity of Kairos.

Not knowing that he has already become such a hot topic, Kairos and his group walked into the canteen together as they heard a voice drift across the room, “Have you seen the crystal recordings?”

When the other students heard this, they went towards the table that is discussing the latest training exercise and invited themselves on the conversation.

Very soon, a small group of students gathered to talk about what happened during the month-long exercise. In fact, such small groups of students could be found everywhere within Saint Cadets Academy with very similar conversations.

“This year’s aptitude test is so exciting! None of those boring stuff like the previous years.”

“Of course, I’ve heard that this year the commanders of the two teams are inheritors to the Mountain cat clan and the White snow family.”

“I’ve heard that George held back a year in order to join the twelve-year-old class to challenge Luciette.”

“Ehh~ I’ve heard that it was Luciette that enrolled a year early in challenging George. Doesn’t that mean that she only eleven?”

“Who knows?”

“What about Kairos? Which noble family is he from?”

“Him? Can’t you see that he is from a poor family from the way he is dressed? There couldn’t be any noble family so poor that they dress their son that way, right?”

“I don’t think so either, but the way he carries himself is rather different from peasants, and if you saw the way he fights I’m certain you’ll think he had special training since young like us nobles too.

Maybe he is from a noble family but just trying to be low key?”

“Probably the heir of one of the three great nobles.”

“Ehhh? Why do you think so?”

“I’m just guessing… Wouldn’t you know those from the middle or upper-class nobles? With his talent, his family would hardly keep him a secret and those from the lower class wouldn’t have the resources to train someone like him. So, we are only left with the heirs from the mysterious Three Great Nobles.”

“OHHH! A brilliant deduction!”

“Yessss, praise me more!”

Kairos and his group are speechless after hearing this. Although Kairos is now one of the Hundred Aristocrats thanks to the grace of their emperor, he is definitely not from any noble family.

The group ignored the rumours flying around, after all, who can correct everyone one by one? Their concern now is focused on the trade fair.

“Don’t worry about the Trade Fair guys! We are rich!!” Jim said enthusiastically while holding to a pouch of crystallised essences.

“Stupid, we are still poor. We need to find something to sell during the fair, any ideas anyone?” Alan said while hitting Jim’s head

“Food?” Tommy said immediately

“Denied! None of us can cook!” Edward says

“Contraptions?” Jim asks

“Won’t make money! Its market is too limited, only saboteurs and captains will need it.”

Kairos had a thoughtful look on his face, “Why don’t we sell weapons? Copper, Iron and Steel ones. We can buy some and then refine them into engraved weapons.”

“OHHHH! Engraved weapons should sell well! Everyone uses it” The group agreed on this idea especially since they can refine their own engraved weapons, and they quickly set off to the market street in the city.

When they walked through the busy streets, they realised that even copper weapons are too expensive for them.

The group pooled up all the money they have and comes to only three green coppers.

“The five of us only have three green coppers? My goodness, why are my friends so poor,” Jim said.

“Says the one with no coins.”

“I offered my candies.”

Kairos rolled his eyes then pulled out a pouch, “Let’s sell some of the crystals?”

He poured out the five D ranked crystals onto his hand then Alan yelled immediately, “Waaaiiittttt….!!”

The rest looked at him in shock because it is extremely seldom for Alan to have such an outburst over money.

“I want one of those crystals!” He asked with puppy dog eyes.

“No way, this money is shared among everyone in Snowdrifts!”

“I know.. but…” Alan embarrassedly said, and Kairos immediately guessed what it is for.

“Let’s ignore Alan, guys,” Kairos said with a small twinkle of amusement in his eyes and turned around.

“W..wait! Come on! I need that crystal!”

“Why?”

The others looked puzzled because apparently Kairos already knew what Alan wants, but he still suggested to ignore him.

“Aww! Come on, captain. I don’t want to have long arms forever!!”

“Hahaha!” The guys laughed together including Kairos.

They finally handed Alan one crystal to sell, exchanging it for two blue silvers and fifteen green coppers. A single blue silver is equal to a hundred green coppers.

“Whoa! So much money! This is the most I have ever seen in my life, and it’s just for a single D ranked crystal!”

“Alan, go get the Bone Softening Solution, we’ll meet you back at the square after we’re done.”

The guys said goodbye, and they split up to their own tasks. Jim decided to follow after Alan to shop for bone softening solution together, but no one saw the wicked gleam on his eyes.

Soon the guys met back at the square with everything done up. They have purchased twenty steel, thirty iron and fifty copper weapons. Additionally, Alan bought a bottle of bone softening solution and twelve bags of candies.

“Phew, that’s all. Let’s go back,” Jim said with a satisfied smile.

“Twelve bags!?”

“Hold on, you rascal!” Kairos chases after him.

Losing his candy bag during the exam had almost driven him crazy with withdrawal symptoms, when he asked, Alan nonchalantly handed change over, and in the blink of an eye, everything was spent. If the latter had denied his younger brother, who knows what fearsome traps will be in store for him?

The guys went back to the dorm and sorted out the weapons in Kairos’ room.

As per before, the captain’s room is public property, and they only have six days left before the trade fair. After the trade fair started, it will go on for seven days and then the six-month-long holidays will finally begin.

The fair was created specifically for students that failed, with two main purposes in mind. The first was to help students to earn some money and the second was for master craftsmen to pick out talented individuals as their apprentices.

Although, in the end, most of them still end up only receiving a newbie position with a lowly paid salary within the trade federate.

The five sat around the clutter of weapons, each grabbing one into their hand as they prepared to infuse their soul energy.

“Listen, guys. Be careful when infusing your soul energy. Too much power will crack the weapon,” Kairos who had refined their weapons, explained.

The others gingerly sent their energy into their item under the scrutiny of their captain. After a moment of trying, none glowed like how engraved weapons would.

“Did you guys use the Fire Ki within your Dantian to do the refinement?”

“Yeah, I did that, but nothing happened,” Edward said confusedly.

“It’s not just any strand of fire Ki. The one that I used looked like a flaming dragon.”

“What!?” The guys gasped.

“What? There should be a fire Ki that looks like a dragon within your Dantians after practising the internal energy method of the tome of Origin right?”

Kairos said, and then for illustration purposes, he pulled out the tome of origin from his shelf. Somehow, the day after this book went missing, it reappeared on his shelf like it was never missing. Thinking about this for a while led him to no clue at all on what happened, and in the end, he simply gave up thinking.

He placed the returned tome in front of him and flipped the pages.

“Elemental Ki cultivation methods…. After becoming an Origin Energy user, one must train their bodies and internal energy to create a strong foundation.

Elements can be used to perfect the strengthening process. Discover the correct runic symbol for the element and cultivate it in every part of your body and your Dantian,” Kairos reads off the book, and the others nodded their head in return. They have done this exact method previously, but there is no dragon-like existence in their Dantian, unlike Kairos.

“Oh well. I guess I’ll do the refinement for the weapons alone, you guys should quickly strengthen your ranks in the meantime,” he paused and passed them their share of crystallised essences.

For Origin Energy cultivation methods, the crystallised essences are usually more beneficial than pills, because of the life energy trapped in the crystals.

They can quickly refine it into their own and strengthen themselves, which was why even when Jones had some pills on himself, he still used the G ranked crystal that Kairos gave him. The four of them returned to their own rooms and furiously pushed their ranking forward, while Kairos sat alone surrounded by weapons.

After a night of furious refinement, Kairos stepped out of his room to the fresh morning air. The guys have arranged to meet up at the gate of the school again today to check out on their exam rewards. Each of them had a bag filled with spirit pills and spirit stones. Those training resources are handed out to students that graduate to the next year to be used during the six-month holidays. In addition, for this group that had done well, they received more according to their results.

However, the number of resources is limited. The amount each year is given was fixed from the beginning, and the top students will take the lion’s share and grow stronger. At the same time, the weaker ones that receive less will have paths of improvements impeded.

Having picked out the presence of the rest are still in mediation, Kairos left the dorm earlier than his brothers heading towards the academy alone.

When he reached the gate of the school, a young boy walked up to him with a wide grin.

“Hey! You’re Kairos correct?” He said flashing Kairos with pearly white teeth. This is rather odd because the clothes he is wearing are rather shabby and filled with patchworks, but his teeth looked clean and polished like how most nobles’ are.

“Yep, that’s me,” Kairos replied with a smile. If you’re wondering about Kairos’ teeth, although he is a commoner, Origin Energy users cultivate life energy and have very healthy features with radiant looks. There are some exceptional cases when the Origin Energy users practice the Death element as their main cultivation techniques or others with very special constitutions, but those are rarities that Kairos’ group do not have.

This means that compared to nobles who takes good care of their own hygiene, he only looked better. Especially Kairos, who has an ethereal look about him after cultivating his martial arts. It is no wonder that many students believe that they are actually nobles with formidable backgrounds, just laying low and pretending to be commoners with shabby clothes. Although, there are a rising number of nobles who had another thought.

“Great! I’ve been looking for you!” The boy smiled once again, it seems that Kairos’ smile has given him some confirmation of his assumption, “I know why you dress like this, Kairos. Great wisdom on your part, great wisdom indeed! Hahaha! I must say that I totally dig your style. Hahahaahaa!”

He laughed loudly and exits the school, leaving behind Kairos who is incredibly confused.

Since his brothers have not arrived yet, he decided to go to the canteen by himself first and have breakfast. Since the cafeteria is facing the academy’s gate, he would have a good view to spot them when they arrive.

As he entered the canteen, all the students within are dressed up shabbily like the one he met at the gate.

“Ho Kairos!” several of them called out as they saw him enter.

A dumbfounded look appeared on his face.

“What happened to the school? Did everyone become bankrupt overnight?”
